Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Justin. How nice for you to revisit the place and people who helped you find your life's vocation. That gentleman was born the same time as my father, and I could have sat with you all for hours. I know that meal was wonderful! Watching the mill do its thing was fascinating, as always. Virginia is a talented camerawoman! Thank you for showing us the beautiful scenery and allowing us to share your special time. I especially loved the traditional southern 30 minute goodbye.

Justin, I enjoyed the video and all of the effort put into it. I think they really enjoyed the kids. I bet they slept well from all of the excitement and the fun of having young ones around. Oh my heck, Justin… I LOVED this! I know you are clear across the country but I felt like you took me back to where I grew up!! Mr. Franklin is definitely a treasure. He reminds me so much of Grandma and her place. She was 93 when she passed and just as able bodied and sharp as he is right up to the end. I’m close to half their age and already not sure some days I could keep up with them! I’ll be happy if I’m anywhere near that capable when I’m in my 90’s! It was very cool not only to see the mill grinding corn, but to see you with your mentor and the very mill that started it all for you. I am so glad you have that on film. Virginia is awesome to of held that camera the entire time. My arm is sore just thinking about how still she was. She did such a great job!! So did you, you were a sneak and got her in the shot at dinner! She’s another beauty daddy, keep the big sticks handy to beat those boys back!! It goes without saying the scenery was breath taking. Me and Charlotte said it was beautiful at the exact same time! I could seriously go on and on about all the great stuff in this video but I’ll stop here and just say I’m definitely going to watch this one again. This truly made my weekend! Thank you so much for sharing this with us Justin and thanks to Virginia and Charlotte too!

Heartwarming and priceless. It brought back memories of my Great grandfather and grandmother. They passed away when I was about Charlotte’s age, close to 55-60 years ago. Everything made from scratch and delicious. Both sides of my family were farmers, from Sweden and Germany. I reckon that’s where my farming genes had their origins. Generation after generation farmed until my grandfathers started working in factories. This is my quest to bring back a little of their farming spirit. Thank you for this video and the time to pause and reflect back, my friend.

I actually thought I must be his favorite, but more likely my mother asked him to take me along to get me out from under her feet.

You learn so much from the old timers. They are a world of knowledge. I wish I had listen more to my grandaddy, this gentleman reminds reminds me of him. When they pass so does all that knowledge goes with them. Amazing life.

Sending goodies home with visitors must be an Appalachian thing. My mother always did it and my grandmother too. My grandmother was raised in the Appalachians by her grandmother. And of course I do it now too. Love the conversation.

Hello Justin. Sure do appreciate you sharing your friendship with this truly outstanding gentleman. Anyone who loves dogs like he does is my kind of person. Also, I appreciated seeing the mill and some of its operations. Actually I don't understand it all yet but this was a wonderful opportunity to see how they work. Apparently the bottom stone is the runner and the handle to the right of the mill looking toward the tractor is the adjustment for the grind??? I noticed he lowered it when you were through milling. This helps give a feeling for what you are dealing with. Thank you it was well worth the time.

I loved watching this, and listening to this gentleman talk. His house, and him looks like my husbands Grandfather Mr Dalton of Stuart , Virginia. I only met him once before he passed away.

He reminds me of some of the old timers I grew up around as a kid. No wonder i'm building a water powered grist mill 🤪👍

The older generations are full of Knowledge, & wisdom. I'm glad you have videoed your visit. We loose so much when his generation is gone! I wished i would have recorded the talks I had with my grandparents & others their age.

Amazing! Salt of the earth folks. The gentleman in this video reminds me of my Grandfather who I called Papaw. One of my earliest memories is when Papaw loaded up his 61 Chevy pick up with corn. Probably around 1970 or 71. We went to the Co op in town and had sweet feed made. That stuff smelled good enough to eat. Thank you Justro.

I moved out of my small town , Gate City, Virginia about 50 years ago. I live in my home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. I like it here but as I’ve gotten older I miss it more each year. But , I am blessed,in that my two daughters and two grandchildren, and almost forgot my son in law live here within 5 miles of me, theres no going home.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Justin. Reminds me of the old aunts, uncles, and neighbors, and grandparents in MS. My brother bought my aunts place, as long as I can remember there was 2 pairs of mill stones in the front yard, One pair was about 24 inches, the other about 36. I'd love to go back and ask where they came from. The place has a large creek on it, I wonder if there was a mill there. Thanks for making this video... You ready for the cooler weather?

i had to paused half way through, ... to see this gentleman after 20 years , Justin that's a lot... One thing, teenagers now a days don't have that "much" connection to their own grand fathers, you as a teen coming back after 20 years to reminish old times because of a "common" thing like a mill machine, SPEAKS volume of YOU.. continue doing this, for your channel and for us who may NEVER have the chance to visit old friends or old folks that had personal touch in our lives.. this is good for your children too.. Justin, oh how I wish I could have found a good man like you when I was young. You are a rare breed. A wonderful person, father, son, friend. Even those old wooden posts on the mill is beautiful. That honey looks pretty & delicious. That Gentleman is a very nice man. His friendship Is a Treasure.

My great grandpa had a mill on Big Blue river in Shelby county Indiana in the tiny town of maybe 75 people called Freeport. He drowned cleaning the wheel out in the April 30 1947. He was born in 1887. In Brandenberg Germany. There’s an old newspaper article somewhere at my dads that talks about the original Gatling gun was invented there and Dr Gatling stole it and got the credit for it. I love local history

Absolutely loved this video, my daughters were both towheads ( platinum blond) when young as are my two grandchildren, a four year old and a six year old who could be the twin of this little girl. The blond hair comes from the Irish ancestors in all likelihood. The farmer reminds me of my great great grandfather who used to let me ride on his sled which had two by six runners and occasionally, when I was very young let me ride on the crossbar of his plow pulled by two mules. Love the narrator and farmer’s accent, which I grew up with.
