Followed you since you started, constantly working on my house’s oil burner using your videos! Selling that house now, thanks for all your help through the years! Change is inevitable!
Excellent install!!!!! Glad you got the job. Another satisfied customer who will hopefully keep getting you to come back for the annual to keep it running lean and mean.
Save your money on a press tool, you haven't needed it in 35 years. No call-back worries with a soldered joint. We would have to call you Steve Clampit!
Great work. This customer is very lucky, I'm sure he got a great price and no stressful worry about the quality of the install being that Steve did it. Was funny how he kept that old leaker going to the bitter end. Water running out the tankess and out the pressure relief valve, flex seal tape wrapped around one of the leaky joints, buckets all over to catch the water, the floor looking like it was in the boiler room of a sinking lobster boat. That is stressful.
It takes two guys eight or more hours to do an install at my job and you did it by yourself. I do service mostly, but i'm very efficient when it comes to installs. I love getting a break from service sometimes. Work ethic is in short supply these days!
Good evening from London where it's now 10pm with the clocks just springing forward. Hope you're all well wherever you are. Time to get the 🍿 and be entertained.
Nice job as usual Steve. I wish you had a helper for new boiler installs. You're getting old enough to be careful with your body. I hope you get the propress. You've been breathing in soldering fumes long enough!
It's fun to see something complete that looks as good as it runs! Great soldering for us to watch-and-learn! I think the soldering looks better, too. Old-world craftsmanship!
Good to see your still doing it old school. Pretty soon you'll have HVAC and plumbers that don't know how to sweat pipe. I'll take soldered joints over shark shit or crimped fittings any day.
There are young guys out there that will replace a boiler that have no idea when a monoflo tee system maybe installed. Steve has been around long enough to stay old school. My self I moved onto programming controls for building automation. My 100 year old knees thank me.
Yes Soldering is Way Nicer Plus i Think it's Safer for the Copper it's holds it's Grip. Plus it's Ol'School My Dad Always Soldered and it's A'lot Nicer After The Job is Done. I Learned A'lot from My Old Man He Did Mostly Commercial which i loved learning and being up on the Roof of Commercial Buildings. My Father did all the Mayfair Foodtowns in New Jersey & The Rite Aids he had a Great Company,, i like Residential but Prefer Commercial My Opinion it's Easier somewhat working on Package Units.. but yup you deal with All types of Weather and Freeze Your Ass Off in the Winter & Sweat your Ass off in the Summer but as an Apprentice it's A'lot to Take in right out of High School lol.. Great Job Steve.
Pro Press in a commercial building is better nowadays less liability. In the building that l operated any spark that generates heat you need a fire permit. Their a lot of procedures (S.O.P) & you probably need 1 to 2 other person watch fire panel & shut down fire pumps and there security call fire department & they have to check on the area after everyone gone .
@@hvacrnortheastern2110 Yeah that makes sense i'm talking like over 32 years ago lol when i worked with my Father.. But yes i agree their are a'lot more you have to do when Soldering.. Things Do Change like Freon laws.
any particular mixing valve you like? I like the soldering technique no nonsense my dad was a plumber we used to solder pipes for fun as a kid and play put the pieces of threaded pipe together like erector sets as kids
Nice job. If he had a steam system would you be able to use the steam pipes with transition brass connectors too copper to make it work with original plumbing?
Love the videos! Greetings from central Australia, no need for central heating systems here, only air cooling however I apprecate and understand the need for house heating after I visited America a few years ago around thanksgiving time so the weather was very cold! I would love to do maintenance work on these systems, I enjoy my job working on plumbing and electrical systems, I think you have a fantastic job doing what you do. Next time if I get to visit America I would love to tag along on a few jobs and help carry the tools for you!
I had a new boiler installed on 09/28/22. The HVAC contractor used the pro-press. I am the 2nd owner of the house, and I had the original boiler replaced after 62 years of service.(US Burnham I believe).
What do you recommend for high and low limits for a home using this only for heat not hot water supply? I have a 4 zone system and usually only heat 1 zone
Hey Steve, thanks so much for sharing this video and showing the wiring along with your boiler aquastat video from 6 years back. Back in the early 00s my folks bought a 5 bedroom colonial house. It originally had 1 zone and a tankless on an oil fired boiler. Boiler would fire on a call for heat. My folks had split one of the zones on the 1st floor and another zone for the indirect water heater. After the plumber made the changes and additions I recall wimpy heat for the 2nd zone and the burner wouldn't fire. Obviously the plumber didn't know about the ZR circuit. I don't recall the burner firing for the indirect either. The relay used was the R845a or similar. On an indirect water heater I assume ZC isn't used to power the relays? I wonder how common it is that plumbers don't know about the ZR when adding additional zones. Thanks.
So the black controller doesn't let either circulator go on unless the water is hot, and it controls the zone 1 circulator. It turns the boiler on if it is too cold and off if it reaches 180. The silver controller is a dumb relay that controls the zone2 circulator, and ties in to the smart black box so its circulator only turns on when the water is hot. I think.
yes i have it wired so the boiler will maintain low limit=160 before heating zones will run its called a reverse== zc is power feed to control will drop out below 160..zr will fire up the burner 110 feed back from control
Steve I thought you weren't a fan of the pro press as they leak eventually as rubber rings go brittle over time. Have you changed your opinion on them in the last year. Thanks Alan
The pro press takes away the liability of accidental fire,I’ve been using it for many years and is popular in my area in New York, jobs get done in less time, less equipment to carry back and forth to truck, agree that soldering looks better
Nice job Steve, you always do good quality work, tell one of those pro press queens companies to let you try out their pro press and you can advertise them on your channel, tell them you get to keep the pro press though, of course, it's worth a shot. Good job again Steve.
I had a buddy of mine ,talk me into mega pressing an upsize job! Honestly it looked like crap, although finctional,it drove me crazy that some of the 1.25 bip was crooked after pressing, and you cant do a thing about it! Give me a 300 rigid any day!
I believe you should have to first prove you can sweat 3 joints, one wet and one joint re-use and a 3 inch maybe one silphos braze joint before your allowed to buy a pro press! Its only fair to the skilled labor that came before them! And propress is not actually cheaper, its a little faster, maybe so labor is lower, bit the big advantage is like Steve said,no setting off alarms and wet work if you dont have tge proper tools! (Jet Sweat)
Obviously the main steam pipes I think could not be used as there to big. But the risers are smaller from the main pipe size to be used if upgrading to this setup. I dont know just guessing.
