I have 590's for my music only system, and in my room, the F3 limit is 20Hz; I am using an integrated Yamaha amp and can drive them to very high levels without distortion. I did but a 550P when they went on sale, and I have it set up out of phase with the 590's to get rid of a huge room mode peak. Sounds strange, but REW measurements don't lie. If I was going to use these in a Home Theatre setup; I would likely buy a single 580 and remount the drivers in a different cabinet with the 2 bass drivers under a JBL 50 X 90 progressive transition waveguide to keep things as low profile as possible. That configuration would minimize the nulls that you would get with a 580 on its side.
@andrewskaterrr
@andrewskaterrr 3 года назад
What nulls do you think I would be getting? Are you talking about nulls in the sub 120hz range? I have a 590 on the way to be a center. I have thought about trying to make a custom 590 center, but it would be pretty tall with the horn right side up. My 85” QN90A arrives next week, and it will already be pretty high up to clear the 590.
@joesabato9736
@joesabato9736 3 года назад
@@andrewskaterrr The nulls will be around the crossover point, 1500 hz in our case. With the 590 vertical, the nulls are in the vertical direction, when you lay it sideways, they will be off axis in the left and right direction. How deep they are depends on the center to center between the woofer and tweeter and the crossover slopes. Since I cant insert a picture, look up the JBL AC28 ( close to a 590 in configuration) specs and it has frequency response graphs on and off axis for horizontal and vertical ( both up and down direction) and you will see the response dips as you go off axis. Those verticals is what you will get left and right when you lay it sideways. BTW, all MTM centers have that disease to some degree, just be aware of the compromise in horizontal orientation. The good thing with the 590 is the dispersion is 100 x 100 degrees, so you don't lose off axis response laying it sideways . Good luck.

Nice setup bruh! I didn’t like the look at first but has grown on me! I was updating my system & came across the 520c for 90$ from JBL! I jumped on it for that price. since then I bought Klipsch 8000f, 250s & am eyeing the 504c. The 504c uses 5-1/4” vs the 4” in the JBL. I just don’t know if I should keep it bc holiday return period is gunna end soon. I plan on running front channels on a separate amp to give them more juice as I play a lot of music, so the 504c would fit perfect next to the 8000f. I actually didn’t realize the 520c sensitivity was 88 bc most of the RP series are high 90s. I was hoping to throw 150 rms at the front channels. I’m trying to learn more as I go but I’m imagining diff sensitivities that might have an effect on the speakers cohesion🤔 correct me if I’m wrong 😆
@andrewskaterrr
@andrewskaterrr 2 года назад
So first off this is outdated but I don't have a fully updated video up yet, but my last one is close enough. Return the 520c and get the 504c, it will match better. The 8000f are similar to the 590s, but I bet their center is better. As for the speaker sensitivity, Klipsch "lies" because they use a non standard calculation method to make their number higher/better. The 8000f are really like 92dB if I remember correctly, just like the 590s. It's typically better to keep the same line of speakers so they have the same sound signature aka "sound/voicing/tonality". 150rms is all you should need if you're not in a big room, and crossover to a sub. I've done wattage measurements on my 590s and was surprised how little power they use.

Ok so I’m debating on a pair of 590 vs 580 my room is 17ft wide by 14ft deep but it opens up to the kitchen making everything 17ft wide x 40ft deep with 9ft ceiling . My main listing is about 14ft from the speakers. How much difference do you think the 590 will be vs the 580? I have a pair or Dayton sub 1200s that I might upgrade. I’m currently using a pair or energy C7 towers as my mains but I got the upgrade bug. I’ll be posting videos of the progress .

Sound wise, go with the 590s, but if space or aesthetics is an issue, go with the 580s. There's a difference in both soundstage size, and bass/mid-bass. Another lesser consideration is the 590's tweeter's center is 41.25" high, where as the 580's is 35.25". I sit below the 590's tweeter, but above the 580's on my couch. The 590s are DEEP so you need some space for them away from the wall. For the sale prices of $1000 vs $700, I'd still go for the 590s. You get the best and don't have to look back. Now if want better off-axis response for multi-seating, I'd prolly go for a non-horn speaker. As much as I love these, their off axis just isn't great. Less of an issue during movies, but with music you'll notice it for sure.

Your setup of speakers for the price you paid is the envy of many of us outside America. The deals you guys get on this series is ridiculous. The new 698's in Australia are the same price as the 590's here in Australia. $3000 Australian dollars ($2175 U.S) and even then, they definitely compete easily with other speakers at the $3000 Australian mark. The Klipsch rp8000 is cheaper here.
@andrewskaterrr
@andrewskaterrr 3 года назад
Oh wow that’s crazy. The 590s are considered to sound just a touch better than the RP-8000. If they are decently cheaper then I’d go with those instead.

Your crossovers are set WAYYY too low. Set your subs up correctly and you can cross your speakers over at 80-100hz. You won't even need any "kick" from your surrounds. That's what you sub is for. Look into getting a mini DSP HD for your subs, move them to the actual spot in the room that is best. I guarantee having the in the front like that isn't the best placement. It will also help the 520 a lot, along with moving it out to the front of the cabinet. The studio series IMO is VERY picky on placement. I honestly didn't like the 520c at first. It sounded very directional, male vocals sounded bad, and kind of a harsh resonating sound in some voices. I got it aimed right, set my subs up, crossed it over at 100hz and I couldn't be happier with it. It sounds very spacious and blends with my 580s perfectly. I own all of the 5 series speakers as well. 580s are by far my favorite. Everything great about the 590s and 570s combined at just the right size and height.
@SqueamishPuppet
@SqueamishPuppet 3 года назад
Also all the speakers should be set to "Small" 590s you can maybe get away with setting to "Large" but I'd probably still set it small.
@andrewskaterrr
@andrewskaterrr 3 года назад
@@SqueamishPuppet I have the 520 set at 120hz crossover, no change. I've held the speaker in front of my face in free air, no change, I've literally tried every way and the sound signature doesn't get better. Tweeters don't magically get more high frequency power with placement. I have a MiniDSP 2x4 HD and I'm getting 2 more subs for the rear for 7.4. And I tested moving the subs to the corners and performance was slightly worse. Having the speakers set to Large doesn't matter when I have the crossover set manually, it's just auto vs manual modes for the crossover.

Nice setup! I too went with JBL Studio series speakers for my setup. Of course that was in 2000 when I got JBL S312 for front left/ right, S-Center which is a 3 way design, and S38 for my surrounds. I still use those and got off ebay the matching same series S36 six total speakers hanging on wall behind me and on ceiling for my current 7.1(3 subwoofers).4 setup.

I just bought three of the 570s for LCR under my projection screen. I have two nice RSL subwoofers. My room is approximately 14' x 20'. This speaker crossed over at 80Hz with two subs should be enough to fill this space with powerful sound, correct?

I don't know the size of the RSLs, but they should prolly work well. If you can, be sure to align them with your AVR or MiniDSP 2x4 HD.

From my understanding, the ohms is one marker of quality. I know that the Studio line is 6 ohms, so they require more juice from the receiver to get the sound. 8 ohms is generally better than 6 ohms. So while they may subjectively sound good, what is the build quality like?
@Gnofg
@Gnofg 2 года назад
That is not true. I had some great B&W's and they were 4 ohm.
@andrewskaterrr
@andrewskaterrr 2 года назад
Not true at all. Whoever told you that doesn’t understand speakers. 6ohm has less resistance than 8ohm and therefor allows more current to flow aka the ABILITY to get more power from your amp. Sensitivity is what requires power. These are 92dB @1watt, and so they are pretty efficient. A 84dB speaker is less effelicient and REQUIRES more power to get to the same level as a 92dB speaker. But even then, sensitivity is NOT an indication of the sound quality, only the efficiency of the speaker. Ohm and speaker sensitivity are the two factors that dictate how much power you need, but do NOT dictate quality.

Great video. All the talk about bigger speaker, the better. Keep in mind, 60-70% of the sound will come out from the center.- I would take your 530 and make that as a center or even a 570 on its side (probably look funky but sounds better). Just my 2c.

Great video man. I was thinking about upgrading to a bunch of different speakers for my home theater and then the JBL studio line caught my eye. The 570s would fit my situation best. So here’s the thing. These speakers are narrow field/very directional. When I move 6in out of the MLP, the center image falls apart. There’s a way to work around this where you toe in the speakers past the MLP, and to the side seats, and it helps smooth it out, but it’s not perfect. I love the tonality cod these speakers and a 570/530 setup would be a nice budget setup, but I think if I were to do it all over again, I might try to find some speakers with better off axis. My setup is now 590 L/R, 580 Surrounds, 570 Rear Surrounds and Center, all hooked up to an Outlaw Audio 7000x, with 4x PB-1000 Pros.
@JC-bl9bo
@JC-bl9bo 3 года назад
@@andrewskaterrr thank you, excellent info. The narrow field is making me think twice now. I'm not sure what would cause that to be the case but I don't like the sound of that. I'm also looking at the SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers as mains, Ultra center. The other is RSL CG5 speakers also. Tough calls here but I don't like what you just described. Zeos said a very similar thing about pointing then to the right and left of the MLP but that's a finicky speaker that I might not want to even deal with.

I've seen it mentioned those 530s should be about 3 feet of the wall 8 feet apart not close to a wall. let me know if that improves you're soundstage..
@andrewskaterrr
@andrewskaterrr 2 года назад
There’s 3 different reasons why whoever told you, said that. 1. Because they’re rear ported there can be a resonance/bump in the low frequencies. The closer you are, the higher it is. All 9 of my speakers have a boost around 83hz because of this. 2. Pulling a speaker away from the wall allows the sound waves that emanate backwards, to spread out further, creating a “larger” but less accurate sound stage. Good for Stereo, worse for Surround. Also can increase the perceived depth due to those rear firing waves. These speakers are more directional so this affects them less, but still effects most speakers. 3. The 8ft metric is wrong, it’s all about the correct angle. You wouldn’t want a 8ft width when you’re 3ft away, or when you’re 20ft away. It depends on your room size and positioning. Also this is an old video. I now have 7x590s for LCR, Wides, Surrounds, and 580s for Rears. 6 ceiling speakers are pending install for 9.4.6.

IMO the center channel and 570's are odd. The center is undersized, by a lot, and has off axis response problems. The 570's are just short. The subwoofer line is also no good and there are plenty of better options.

Agreed. I'm debating putting 570s, 530s and 520c in my bedroom, but I'd have to put the 570s on risers to make it over the bed lol. The Jamo 809 5.1 setup currently in there is tall enough, but they aren't as good as the JBLs. They're just sitting in my other room doing nothing, so I may test it out. The subs I haven't touched.
