Still the best female mc ever,as far as disses go.Produced by Marley marl. "Talk about how they're so devoted.Take my ryhme, you'd swear they wrote it." Classic!!
Tight production from Marley marl and some of the toughest beats and scratching ever laid down make this a hip hop classic and thats even before shante gets busy on the microphone! Shante is one of the best mc's ever, let alone female mc's and this was undoubtedly her finest moment. "Bite This" is an awesome "Diss" record and Shante makes no secret of whom its directed at, naming mc's left right & centre and inviting them to........ "Bite This"........awesome hip hop!!
best roxanne/marley combo on a song & 1 of the most underrated songs ever. this was around the time mainstream america were frightened & started enacting noise ordinances and I LOVED IT!!!!!
Classic roxanne shante. Mike allen ( rip) first played this on his capital rap 95.8 fm rap show from the Def mix volume 1 compilation back in august 1985. Was released as a 12 inch single a few weeks later.
Marley Marl didn't sample to chop out anyone's drums to make the beat for this song. It's an E-mu Drumulator and one of its kits. One kick and snare sampled by E-mu used in their "Rock Drums Kit" in particular was sampled is from Led Zeppelin's - When the levee breaks. Marley Marl, Lawrence Goodman, Dr. Dre & DJ Yella, Vincent Davis, Duke Booty, Art of Noise, Full Force, Rick Rubin, Russell Simmons, Larry Smith, LA Posse (D Pierce, D. Simon, DJ. Pooh), Steve Ett, Ted Currier & David Spadley used it in their early producing careers.
No curses and vulgar language. True talent and message and strength came through very clear. Today's rappers could never pull this off. Shante will always be a rap legend.
I remember this from my days of hittin' up Camelot Music and Musicland for 12" singles and making TDK tapes of all the fresh cuts and selling them at school for a 5 spot a piece!! I used to rack up crazy!! I owe Marley Marl a pretty good chunk of cheese from those tapes man! Yo Marley!,the check's in the mail and you can at least get a 1/2 tank of gas with it!! LOL
The 7 people that downvoted this track think rap is the Black Eyed Peas. This is the greatest female rap track of all time. Yes, it includes the future too.
I saw this comment & was intrigued so i got digging . I think Robert is suggesting that Marley sampled & chopped the drum part on . The system - baptise the beat...watch?v=9pMzUcB-QoU But i'm not convinced....As their heavy like Art of noise - beatbox I know the horn scratches are .Brothers johnson - Aint we funkin now.... Cerrone - look for love .& Uncle louie - I lke funky music ..
@BugattiDreams No. I'm talking about the gangsta stuff but look at The Fat Boys, LL Cool J and Run DMC, they were against gangs and this is PROPER rap.
Notice nobody diss her back they couldn't freestyle off the top of their head like that .....they would have lost to a female and they were at the top of their game at that time.....they had to much to lose
