Just as with "Roxanne's Revenge", this was totally improvised , done in one take off the top of her head. Marley's cutting and stratching of the ending of Roxanne's Revenge is brilliant! It's amazing how the human brain works. As a kid, my friend had this on tape. He would play it over and over. Haven't heard it since...AND YET, i still remember the whole damn song. And remembering NOT to say " sh*t , goddamn" because I didn't cuss back then !!!

Yeah, she was talking about how she recorded "Roxanne's Revenge". She freestyled it off the top of her head, making it up (improvisation) as she went along. No pre-written.

I also had a long journey looking for this song! I heard it on WBLS and managed to tape it at one point but as the years go by and you lose things it became a mission to find this song either on 12" or on the net. Thank you for uploading this! Shante does not hold back and to this day she is a force to be reckoned with!

True classic. I grew up listening to Shante'. She rocked the mic with the best of them back then. She's an original member of the Juice Crew too. the only woman to achieve that status. She out-rocked UTFO back then too. This is legendary material.

Omg this is my song. I remember taping this off the radio. Back in the day if the didn't have the lyrics you had to keep pressing rewind and play to write the lyrics down. This was the first song I did that with. I can remember every single word. Damn memories. You couldn't tell us nothing back then. Haha

Shanté is one of the greatest MCs of all time. Mad props, too, for posting the "Def Mix Vol. 1" cover! I had that and had to return it to the store because the hole in the center was too small for my turntable, and when I finally was able to get it off of the platter to play the other side, the second side was badly damaged anyway. Fortunately, I was able to tape it! Peace.

I used to break dance to this in the 80's. Recorded to cassette tape at 45 rpm as it better to dance to. Play this video at 1.25 speed and it sounds close to the 45.
