The Motoguzzi V7 Special is my kind of bike. It's stylish and has simply bucket loads of charm. Guzzi's are definitely for the rider for whom good enough is never good enough.
A very big thanks to Peter Stevens Imports and Motociclo for supplying and preparing the bike for this video.

Im so glad the headlight doesn't have that eagle logo on it; apart from not really liking it, I actually think it's a little too modern for the retro aesthetic.

I bought the Stone. I was riding back in the day when real retro bikes were new. The V7 850 gives me all of the retro flavour and none of the mess. It's awesome. The comfort, handling and torque are a standout.

Fair review - thanks. I have had the 850 Special for two years and put 11.5K miles on it. Totally reliable and handles really well weaving in and out of London traffic. 95mph with the missus on the back is both comfortable and uneventful - can eat the miles up on a long motorway run. Suspension can be a bit harsh on badly pot holed roads, but always feels planted. I have added the screen (well worth it in rainy/cold weather) and the luggage rack (which is pretty useless, bit looks nice). Normally change bikes every two years, but keeping this for another two and see how I go. So easy to ride and pretty relaxing too. But, fast enough when you need it. Torquey motor really helps when you need to pick up the pace. Because the weight is so low (plus the seat) it doesn't feel heavy. I'm 62 and have no problems manoeuvring it around. About 108mph is the max, so not for speed-demons. For an old biker like me though, it is just about perfect.

Just bought the Stone. From the classic factor I would have gone for the special, but the orange of the Stone was too beautiful for me to resist. After having a test ride with the Enfield, I found it a bit too smooth. Then I did a test ride with the V7 and instantly fell in love. Sound and character of the engine are really addictive. I'm in between in getting an aftermarket exhaust. Stock sound is not bad, but a bit quiet. On the other hand it's good for your relation with neighbours and non-bikers. They discribe the sound of pleasant and not too loud.

I bought a 2022 V7 Special a few months ago and it is a fantastic bike. It has a lot of character and I like having the only one around rather than having a common Harley Davidson here in the US. I'm an older returning rider and I like the medium size and the lighter weight that makes the V7 Special easy to ride and easy to move when parked. A V7 Centenario wasn't available when I bought my bike but the Special was an easy choice over the Stone since I enjoy the retro appearance. I enjoyed the video and thanks for helping to get the word out on how great these bikes are!

Excellent, stand-out review! - Well-prepared, to-the-point, & no unnecessary theatrics. Thank U! I'm now considering V-7 v. a Triumph T100 or Speed Twin 900. (I had a 2017 T120, but it was to 'slick' & techy for my retro tastes, esp. due to nostalgia over my '66 & '68 Bonnies of yore.)

Thanks for watching, glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Some good choices of bikes there, personally I’d take a V7 over the T100, although the T100 is still a great choice. I haven’t ridden a Speed Twin. Do you still have the older Bonnies?
@Chris80
@Chris80 Год назад
I'm riding a v7 850 special on my own. The only things I have changed are a new extra bright h4 headlight bulb and an added main stand. Here in Germany the v7 special costs about 10,000€ while the bonneville t100 costs about 11,500€. So the Guzzi is the cheap competitor of the Bonnie. But each of these bikes are exotic here, the main competitor is a BMW RnineT. For me, the v7 is powerful enough. It accelerates as fast as I'm able to change the gears and the top speed on german Autobahn does not depend on engine power but on the question: "Am I able to hold me tight on the motorcycle?" So, my person limit is about 140-160km/h, depending on the direction and strongness of the wind. The most astonishing thing for me: When I ride the guzzi to TAFE, many of my 16-18 year old students take a look and stare. Yes, for these young guys, the Guzzi is cool. Come to Italy and you'll see, most of the riders of the v7 stone anre Youngsters.

Absolutely love the brand., and the way they deliver their power is so addictive..Problem is, when you think you need a second or third bike, the choice is so hard. I have had one since March 2022 after a break of nearly 30 years. I looked long and hard at new bikes having always having Hondas, but the modern Japanese bikes all look very similar to transformers and nothing appealed. It was then I started looking at Guzzi’s having fallen in love back in 5he 70’s with the Le Mans and California, I quite liked the stone and bobber styling until I saw the special. No test ride just ordered it and I’m glad I did. The headlight is quirky but acceptable the side stand like you say takes some getting used to but with time it gets easier, I have the optional centre stand as well, I’ve heard that after about 3K miles the gearbox is fully run in and makes neutral easier to find. Personally I love the way the Guzzi sounds, it’s no rocket ship, but if you want a simple comfortable no frills bike that will happily get you from A to B then for me this is it. Getting a Guzzi for me has been a long time coming, but was definitely worth the wait.

Spot on review! I own a 2021 V7 III Special, the 750 version of what you tested. I do disagree with the look of the headlight but that is minor. Thank you for your video, I enjoyed it. I would prefer the V7 850 and I like the looks of the old style headlamp over the one on the stone. I like the dual gauges and spoked wheels, although I do not like tube tires. I also like the Triumph Benneville, but the valve lash adjustable on the Boneville is a chore where on the V7 is so simole, you don't even have to remove the fuel tank. I also like the shaft drive. My best friend just bought a V7 Saturday... I'm jeoules. I have to stay with three wheels these days because my wife always rides with me and she has battled cancer eight times, had 12 surgeries in ten years, maxed out on Chemo, radiation, and cyber knife treatments. Great review. I've put 2,000 miles on mine and it seems to loosen up into a great all round bike. The gear selection indicator is not so slow now, but on hot days that illusive neutral at the traffic lights is tiring on the clutch hand in city riding, as sometime the lights have changed just as you find it :) You get the 'goose cluck' on 1st-3rd, which is part of the character. But hey, it's a really great ride, can really motor along, handles incredibly well for the style of bike, and you feel like you are on something special - that's for sure. @@BikerTorque Just looking back at the headlamp for a second, I recently saw a review from a UK (Major magazine/paper ) journalist who had a major grip with the headlamp. She had to take it in for repair as the lamp was a wee bit loose and vibrated down at the end of a long days riding. I’ve tested the T120, the Interceptor and the V7. I’ve found the T120 classy, well finished with a very low seat and a nice engine. But too nimble, and the 1st gear is way too long for the city. I didn't feel myself well on the Interceptor, not adapted to my morphology (I'm 1,65m). A bit too high, weight is placed at the top, but with a very smooth twin. The V7 is my favorite. Well finished, different, low seat, low weight, good position. It’s alive, it shakes, it vibrates. Riding it is a real pleasure, it’s my choice.

Definitely take this over the Triumph and especially the RE. A TRUE modern retro in every sense! I brought a v7 sport in '77 from a motorcycle mechanic. Owner before him owned a motorcycle dealership and he picked this bike up in Italy in some sort of special fly in, tour with factory guides, then ship home. When the original owner saw the bike he was pissed at me. I llived on a dirt road and i didn't wash the bike all that much(ever) but he got used to me once i started spending money at his shop. First question i had was if the bike had ever been raced because all the bolts and screws were safety wired. He told me no but as the owner of a dealer ship that sold European bikes in the '70's he his mechanics had some down time. They also sold Ducati and Triumphs but Euro bikes weren't all that popular then. The Japanese had some pretty exciting offerings back then and were way faster in a straight line. Hell , my friends Yamaha 350 two stroke would leave me in the dust in a drag race but i would always catch him in the curves. Anyways, during the rainy season the mechanics work would get slow. He didn't dare lay them off because where would he find another mechanic that could work on bevel drive desmo capable mechanic which was essential if you sold Ducatis. So if things got slow he would assign them to work on his personal bikes. He added an extra layer of foam to the seat which didn't look as cool but was great on long rides. It was painted a Ferrari red which was a little more eye catching than the stock moto guzzi color. I brought the bike with mid twenties on the odometer but that didn't scare me because the chrome cylinder liners were legendary for lasting to 80k. He further eased my mind because he had the mechanics blue print and balance the top end at 15k just to refresh it! It was my favorite bike to this day and I think it's better looking than the current v7. The big drum brakes would fade on a long hill to the point where the lever would touch the bar but if you slowed down and downshifted it was manageable plus the drums were so big and the cooling fins so exquisite it looked better than the twin discs of the lemans in my opinion. Plus the huge drum filled the 18" rims so the spokes were really short. I want to say 4-5" long. I would never have sold it but i needed the service of aerial photography expert for some legal matter. He worked at a military aerospace facility and he said they frowned on any side jobs but he would risk it for the v7. He would also throw in his Moto Guzzi 1000 bagger. I rode that bike and it was smooth but it had a auto transmission and this weird linked brake system that didn't allow you to just use the rear brake. On my extremely steep dirt driveway the combo of auto transmission and linked brakes made the bike particularly hard to manage because if you locked up the front you were going to go down. He took me for a ride one time and he was a little over weight (300 plus) i wasn't skinny either at 185 and he didn't slow down enuf despite my warnings. When we hit the real steep dusty part ( dust would fill in deep ruts from the winter making the road appear to be in better shape than it really was. When vinny grabbed a bunch of brake both wheels locked up Vinny ( who was slightly effeminate not that it matters) let out a little girl scream that had me wondering if i could extract my legs from the bags and jump off. He let off the brakes entirely and actually managed to keep the bike upright which i have to give him credit for but his eyes appeared to be twice their normal size. I took a old BMW 600 R6 with a bad clutch and 50 k on the clock. Took plea bargain so Vinnie's expert analysis never used and lost a classic for a worn out commuter bike. I did make lemonade eventually. Found some one with 750 top end and refreshed everything from a legendary BMW machinist. I balanced it put it back together and rebuilt the fork with stiffer spring and thicker oil and raided the BMW dealers dumpster for some Michelin semi dirt / mostly street tires. Hey it was no GS but it suited my purposes. The engine was fresh and the 600 cam with 750 barrels, pistons and heads and carbs seemed to give it some low end grunt. At least it got be riding again!

Have owned several German bikes to include BMW and Zundaps. Grew up with British bikes--meaning Triumph and BSA. Have never been interested in Harley. Owned several Suzuki's to include 2-stroke models and the Wankel rotary 500. The Moto Guzzis have been my favorite above all the rest. Guzzi ride nice and look just as nice. Sexy bikes that turn heads everywhere you go, no exaggeration. I have a v7 Classic and don’t think it’s anything special. It’s just an old (12 years old) bike with some miles on it that looks the part of its age and miles. It gets more attention than any other bike I’ve ever had. First, the gear indicator is of the type that infers the gear based on speed and engine revs. That's why it is slow and why it shows "-" as soon as you pull the clutch lever. There is no mechanical sensor that reads the internal position of your gear . This is somewhat annoying when you need to stop quickly, come to a full stop but need to change gears. You simply don't know what gear you are in while you work your way through the box when standing still. This doesn't help finding neutral. Second, the head light can be interchanged with a plug-n-play LED version that replaces the entire internal light unit (reflector, bulbs etc). Other than that, the V7 is a brilliant retro bike.

This is not good for someone who does their own maintenance, and whose nearest dealer is 350 miles (560 kilometers) away. Also, there is no good reason for the bike to not come with cruise control (and I don't mean one of those cheezy throttle locks).
