Put chrome traction bars on it and exhaust that ends before the rear wheels. Have the pipes angled at 45° instead of the normal 90°. ohhhhh, don't forget the yellow square driving/fog lamps hanging off the bumper.. IDK, that was a cool thing to have on your car back in the day.
Okay,I see where you are going now. Now I am old school,I'm 64 and been in the game a long time. In the early 80's I was running chevys we had hot small blocks, muncie 4 speeds with Lakewood scattershields 12 bolt posi with anywhere from 4:10 to 4:88 gears. A 5" snorkel scoop was common. Lakewood slapper bars that had had U bolts on the snubber end clamped to the spring. We had a ball !
My 73 (71 front end) has a 400 SB w/350 turbo 292 heads Weiland intake Holley 750 Accel ingnition 490/480 cam 8.5 rearend 3:73 mini spool Lakewood slapper bars Monroe air shocks. A 4" fiberglass cowl hood Vette style Rallyes 7x15 w/205/78 frt 10x15 w/245/60 rear. I built it over 20 years ago the only thing I did recently was the 400ci SB and the gears in the rearend. Its also been in primer w/ clear almost since I bought it 30 years ago - real easy to touch up!
First off … I love the bloopers ! Last I knew you’re an HVAC contractor that loves Novas … not a cinematographer ! lol. Just keep going even if you screw up the unwritten script in your head. We get it. lol. Love the scoop ! Used em but never a fan of shackles or air shocks so I put factory slight re arched rear springs. Just an idea. Yes more than air shocks buts rides better than air shocks maxed out. Always preferred factory Nova exhaust dump location but dual OBVIOUSLY 😎. One interior suggestion: nuttin says old school like fuzzy dice 😂 take care man ! Lovin that you’re back at it dude ! 😁
I am not into hood scoops, scoops are only for necessity, I'd get a clear sea through one to show off the stacks and blower. I hate air shocks, which we call those whom run them captain air shock. Leaking garbage. Yes it needs raised for stance, nova's look granny if not stanced. I'd square up the interior & matte/ primer black it and send it! A nova looks fine matte black, and it's budget af. First fix that caved quarter panel to start motivation.
Okay if we're gonna throw some Parts at it. We have to have Aluminum slots. Shackle it up in the rear. Definitely snorkel scoop. And side exit exhaust. Cherry bombs and flex pipe.😅
Hey John, how about prime it and then clear coat it for a cool matte finish, maybe green primer or red primer. Side pipe exhaust would look pretty cool. Tint the windows and black out the chrome. Air shocks in the back to stance the car nice!
0.30 over flat tops or dome pistons 350 double hump heads, pink rods steel crank 526 lift off road z28 cam team G wind high rise intake holley 750 double pumper, roller rockers, light weight z28 flywheel height distributor, accel super coil. Msd 7aL box stock oil pump and stock mechanical fuel pump, then full length headers with two chamber 40 series flow master then a side and Neal turbo 400 transmission and the rear differential moroso axles auburn gears Detroit locker 3:42 or 3:73 , cal track bars then you will have a nice street/strip car maybe a 13 second old school nova
Yes Sir I like it, motivation is everything, for me your channel is motivation but I have trouble finding time to get in my garage. Sharp as hell old school ride.
When I think old school, I think of making the engine strong and rear gears. Next came some E.T. mags and laundry glass paks. The next was interior and last fixing the exterior. I think you got the right thing going except having that motor survive 11 to 1 pistons. You'll have to retard the timing and it will still knock. But I like your plans. When we were young, a lot of us sold the car before finishing the interior . So driving with the paint not finished is differently old school to me. Keep up the good work like your style
For all engine parts you have top Quality parts. When I was thinking about an engine I wanted TRW pistons and camshaft. But the prices are out of line so had to think out plan B and so far I haven't made a decision.
What you did looks good but I would make the hood scoop more of a cowl induction design that's just me though. And I don't know why but I always liked that style Z28 rims but what you swapped on looks good too. A sbc 350 is kinda boring no matter how you top it off. You could grab one of those 307 cranks and build an old school sbc 327!😯😎 This would give you a 350 crank to do a 307 stroker later on.🤔😎👍
Looks great! Traction bars and a 4 speed. What about a single stage paint job. Look at Clunkers and Classics. He does paint jobs on a budget. Love the channel.
I think what you is great. I doubt you plan to drive it around much, maybe up the compression more and build a high test fuel only engine, or E85 or methanol. Minimal body work, no paint, just enough so you don't fall out the floor. No interior. Keep the work quick and cheap. You have enough restoration projects. The mailbox on the hood would be fantastic.
Idk i like the jacked up raked stinkbug look, but with that bitchen cardboard hood scoop i think way jacked up on air shocks and big slicks that come past the fenders. Just make her a beautiful eyesore lol
Have you flowed those double hump heads on you flow bench you got a bit ago? I would love to see what flow numbers you get on those heads? Even the ported ones you mentioned here? There are so many people who say what these heads don't flow for good but no one ever has the numbers to back up what they say. I've only seen one source list actual numbers & they vary quite a bit. Would be nice to see what you can get with your bench?
I have and the flow is decent. Around 240cfm at .500 lift. However I want to take them and other heads over to flow on my friends modern superflow bench to compare before I make a video.
John is there any tips on talking off the passenger Fender. Do I need to remove hood or other parts. I also have the hang door hinge so purchased the hinge screws seals
Yes. The hood will have to be removed since the hood hinge is bolted to the fender. You’ll likely have to remove the bumper also but maybe not. Heater hoses etc depending on how original the car is.
I needed to know on a 73 Nova is there a double hump crossmember for a 350 long neck transmission. The original one won't allow exhaust from headers to clear.. I appreciate all your advice.
Do I need to take inner wheel wall or will that be easier taking it all off together? I'm trying to locate all screws . Is there one when I open door ? Sorry for all these questions I just rather know from a more experience Nova owner.
Awesome vid! Are those convos pros for sale? I've been looking everywhere for some 15x8 centerline looking wheels with a big enough backspacing for 275/60/15. The options are so limited when it comes to 5-5.5" backspacing
I’m in middle Georgia. Sandblastcthe headers and use VHT flameproof primer and paint. This works most of the time for a while but if you run engine lean and get headers red hot it will flake off.
I find it "Shocking" that something like that, would even be allowed on the road. It would "Never" pass inspection, here in Canada... Don't get me wrong, I Love Novas (I'm restoring a '72, as we speak) but with all the Liability Lawsuits in the US, I'm Amazed that people drive vehicles that are just plain "Unsafe"/"Dangerous"...😮😮😮
Lol. By the time it’s on the road it won’t be unsafe. It’ll have good brakes, functioning lights and signals etc. other than that it’s no more dangerous than a motorcycle as it is.
Eh. No hood scoop if you have a blower for that 350. What type of trans are you planning for it? Also, replace the floor and put a roll cage in it, cause I'm sure you know how things can go sideways, and not be fun sideways, and since it's kinda janky, there's a higher probability of the bad sideways happening. I'd rather see you with an arm or leg cast on, then be hearing about your funeral. Honestly, those wheels work nice for it. Keep them. Is it going to be street legal? CAN it be street legal? If it can be, put a pair of race seats up front, and forget the back seat, then go have fun with it.
Yeah. Probably get a roll bar. Gonna fix all the big structural stuff. In GA as long as it has insurance and functional lights and seat belts you can put insurance in it and drive it.
