Chris, you will love this Bull dog. I put a lot of miles on on one just like this in the 70's. Same color, 300, twin stick. 6 speed. This is a real truck!
Chris if I were in your shoes I would find a set of lug logger tires or something like that to put on that truck. We had a farmer here one year put floaters on his trucks he took them off and put his deep lug tires back on floaters work good on a trailer he couldn’t get enough traction on his trucks with them. But hey it’s a nice truck. Love the content.
Crove a 1968 RD686 300 18000 steer 46000Mack rears on 46K Hendrenkson spring and beam. Air lock power divider. With Jacobs brake. New Hampshire set up! tough as nails!
Oddly we had multiple R models that were Mack/Mack with silver dogs. Congratulations on the new truck. She's beautiful. I love the 2 stick. The truck I learned to drive on was a 79 R model with a 237 and a 2 stick. 😍
that was my punishment truck all new drivers had a mack like this before getting newer truck i loved it i told my old boss im keeping it i didnt want a new truck it was a beast never got stuck cant wait for you to get it home
I grew up in mid 80s , dad ran a late 70s model for yrs . He ran glass sand and reganite . Later on he ran an mid 80s one . Um lots of mems just that short ride hey the wipers work that says something.
Nice old Mack. My I suggest the next truck have a power divider and cross locks. Also automatics do better in the field. They get stuck less. Old cement trucks or 4wd plow trucks often had automatic trannys. I love military trucks myself. They are awesome in the field. Something to think about the 10k Front on that Mack is kinda light it will eat up king pins. I use my deuce in a half on the farm a lot. 6x6 and the winch comes in handy. Good video.
The RD is a heavy duty R. The U & DM are basically R’s but the cab sets over to the left (not center) DM being heavier truck. (DM) stands for dump, mixer. Can’t go wrong with DOGS!
Weird that thing has a 300 with a gold dog...because in the 70s that was supposed to symbolized a Maxidyne engine because they used gold color paint on the Maxidyne engines. Still a nice looking dog.
The twin stick is why mack driver's used to never wave when you passed them because they were two busy rowing gears. I drove one that in certain gears or grandes u had one hand on each stick trying to talk dirty to the trans as your trying to slip it into gear. I've always wanted a twin stick with an old 2 stroke Detroit. When I first drove a 2 stroke Detroit I wasn't driving it hard enough, the farmer I was working for told me I have to really bebeat the heal put of the truck running her way up In the RPMS, he told me when I get back in the truck make sure to slam my hand in the door and drive it pissed. Also I've heard Detroits with the twin stick, the twin stick pisses you off enough to drive it like I stole it.
Haven't drove a twin stick, looks like it would be fun though. My late uncle had a mack many years ago, used to haul paper and salt with it in Howell Michigan
Nice choice!! Old Mac!! They are geared a little slower, but at the end of the day, they're right up there with the rest! Do some double clutchen!! Hey, if you see HF on any of the castings, we made them @ Hallstead Foundry! manifolds, transfer cases, many other parts! They closed in 1985!
I think the word you were looking for was "misadventure." As in I hope Chris' adventure doesn't turn into a misadventure. Cool looking truck. All the best!!
I'm A gear head. You didn't show the motor. I worked on Macks about the time that thing was new. Let's see under the hood. Nice purchase. Will out live the farm if cared for.
Pretty sure back when that truck was built the gold dog meant it had a maxidyne engine, it was in the 2000's I believe before gold dog came to mean all Mack drivetrain.
That era Mack the gold dog on hood means maxidyne, most were all Mack. But the gold dog now means all Mack power train. It gets confusing especially after volvo bought them out.
NO! You're supposed to say you bought a random barn for no reason and completely unexpected there was this thing in there you really wanted. Will it run... oh it does, first time, after 20 years of not being touched 🤯
