Hi Brian I've been a premium member for a few years now, and how you structured this particular lesson is what I really appreciate. Your explanation of where the abbreviated shapes come from are not always obvious, but thank you so much for taking the time to explain where they come from, it really satisfied a great yearning to learn for me. I'm a bit of a theory geek, and this lesson really opens up alot for me. Thanks again.
The Layers, by Julian Lage, is fantastic. Then again, pretty much anything Julian Lage plays is fantastic. Bill Frisell is also still making incredible guitar-centric instrumental songs.
Love these instrumentals. Thank you for your excellent lessons. Some of my fave “newer” instrumentals: SRV’s Lenny & Riviera Paradise; E.C’s Reptile; Santana’s Europa; Allmans’ Jessica. 😊😊 Oh, & Girl From Ipanema, of course ❤️❤️
Brian, like me, you were born at the wrong time. I think I was actually caught in a time warp as I was coming out of the womb. Anyhoo, this is a great composition! I can't wait to play it! The melody has some nice feeling to it; D is a GREAT key; and finally, it's a great chord progression! This is awesome, I can't wait! 🤪 👍 👌 PS: I love the way you explain everything. It makes it so easy to understand, and also to remember the melody. I can't believe how much music theory I understand now, vs before I started watching your videos. (It didn't take me long to become a permanent subscribing member of your channel! Best money I've ever spent, and it's peanuts, really!) This is great. Once again, you've done good. (I won't say 'you've outdone yourself,' cuz you always do so well.) Keep it coming, dude! Yeah!
Hi Brian, your reminiscent of the old ballads, me too. How about " People get ready" by Curtis Mayfield or I've lost that loving feeling by the Righteous bros. That's a nice shirt. I just bought a couple, one your color and a real nice aqua blue. It's a shiny material but it snags really easily, that's the only bad thing. Good lesson Brian. Peace 🕊️.
Old school all day long,! I keep finding myself listening to the older music more and always discovering something new. My favorite instrumental is George Harrison's "Marwa Blues". Beautiful lesson, thank you! ✨💕
OMG soon as you discussed it..i thought of miami vice...loved the show, and the song...bought me back to like 10-12 years old for a min.... Great lesson!!
Oh Brian, please disregard all my comments, I just re-listened to the video.... I get it, I should stop playing guitar at 1am in the morning 😅 I appreciate all you do, you are the best! ❤ Sincerely Dina
Only instrumentals I can think of is not a guitar instrumental. Songs by Chuck Mangione and Herb Albert. The song Love unlimited uses a great Wah Pedal in it.
So tasteful Brian, love this style of playing. When you have a moment, try to check out an instrumental song called Wedding Cake Island by Australian band Midnight Oil, from early 80’s. I have a feeling you’ll like it too.
For the modern day equivalent of instrumental ballads it probably isn't guitar based. I would look to the likes of Yann Tiersen's soundtrack to Amelie, its beautiful. Or of course Aphex Twins selected Ambient Works, also superb. Probably more piano stuff these days like Nils Fram and Olafur Arnalds
Interesting. I am one of those who has to ‘intellectualise’ by actively thinking about the notes to go with the chords. I have a complete tin ear and I can’t play from anything ‘inside my head’. I have to try to play what I suspect (from theory) are appropriate notes and then decide, after playing them, whether they sounded ok. It is very laborious, but it’s all I can do. So I do need your explanations, from theory, about why certain things are likely to work.
Wow, this really touched my heart! Been a tough year for me… lost my Father in January, and my Mother just this last month…. This Soothed my Soul. ❤️🩹 Thanks for all you do Brian…Beautiful!
My condolences, losing your parents especially Mom for me put me in a year of depression and then my dog Keno came along and got me out of it and she just passed 3 months ago. Some people have a hard time with death even though it's just a part of life. Peace 🕊️ my friend.
@@douglaschristine8387 ❤️🩹 Thank you, so much. Sorry to hear about the passing of your mother, and more recently the passing of your loyal pet. I lost my wife back in 2010, just months later an elderly cat we had passed away… I think the cat died of a broken heart. ❤️🩹 yes, indeed, our dogs and cats can really reach deep into our heartstrings. I love the fact that you talked about death being just part of life… I have definitely taken on a more stoic view of things lately, and it is a peaceful place to be. All the best to you and thank you for the kind reply.
HEY BRIAN ALL MOST 1 YR IM GOING TO BE REUPPING MY SUB Keep-um-coming love it this is my speed NO your here for a reason .. Best dam instructor ..MiamI good sound track ...
This is one my very favorite guitars of your and I love when you break it out. The tones are just so sweet! Edit: Would mind reminding me again what guitar maker this is? I can’t quite make out the logo. If I recall, that p90 is a ThroBak.
Any chance you could do a lesson on the guitar style of Jimmie Rodgers, aka the yodeling brakeman or the father of country music? Although his songs were fairly simple, he used a LOT of walking bass lines to fill between chord changes and an assortment of fairly sophisticated chords including diminished and augmented to spice things up.
bring it on Brother i love this stuf ATIVE MELODY ..subscrib . fallow .. get lessons i know wair my money is going ... you get what you put in to this ....
