No, I'm very suprised at how young these companies are. I mean, Japan is one of the oldest countries in the world. I'm confused as to why there aren't older stationary companies in Japan. Canson was founded in 1557, Faber Castell 1761, Windsor & Newton 1832. I would've expected Japan to have much older stationary companies than those. The video was pretty disappointing for me.
@heathergleiser
@heathergleiser 2 года назад
@@nilawarriorprincess It looks like they were focusing on more popular products. Pilot was founded in 1918 and their most exclusive fountain pens still bear the name Namiki in honor of the company’s original name and its founder: Namiki Manufacturing.

In 1979, I was gifted my first mechanical pencil from my 4th grade teacher. He heard from my third grade teacher that I was constantly sharpening my pencils, and she called me her most annoying student. I thought they were these new gadgets then, but that one from 1971 is now on my wish list! BTW, Mr. Vanderhoff remains my favorite teacher to this day. I think he understood my autism before it was ever really diagnosed in girls. My pencils had to be sharp, or I would not write. My mother saved to buy me the 0.5 after that, because I was unhappy the lead size was so thick in the gifted one to her. This teacher also bought me books from Scholastic, when he noticed I did not turn in my first order of books in his class. He asked my mother just to send me with the order form to turn in and he bought me my selection. I never knew this until my mother told me when I graduated high school. Wish I would have kept track of this terrific teacher in Salem Oregon.

I’m being introduced to the world of Japanese stationary, pens and the art of handwriting and it has been exciting. I recently purchased the Sakura, Uni-ball and the Pilot Kakuyo pens for my use in journaling. They are working very well. I’m relearning the art of writing small to accommodate my Hobonichi journals.

I first discovered gelly rolls in 1998. I stumbled on them at Wal-Mart in South Florida. I bought them because they stood out being glittery this led to my life obsession with gelly rolls. I returned to buy more a couple weeks later and they were gone. It became a fun game of hide and seek for gelly rolls all over. Staples, office depot, Walmart, Kmart, the teacher stores, Micheal started carrying them soon after and through the years I bought and tried tons of gel pens but Gelly Rolls will always be the best!

I've been wary of gel pens after a stupid incident in high school where I was sucking on the back of a pen, all for the ink to shoot up. I asked to go to the restroom with sky blue ink just running down my mouth 😂 Thankfully, ink pens don't stain the skin the way a regular pen might, so I was able to physically cover my gaffe. Not so much the gossip that came from it, however. I want more gel pens, though. I like that many aren't as runny as they were back when I was in high school in the early 2000's.

I grew up in Taiwan in the 80s and 90s and practically every foreigner, when returning to their home country, would take a lot of Mono erasers back with them and hoard them because they were so much better than any erasers at home. I "returned" to my Passport Country in the middle of high school and my Mono erasers were one of my most treasured items. I might let a classmate borrow it for one mistake but I kept my eye on it and took it back immediately!

Is this from 2010, are the dates wrong or was there a typo in the narrator notes for the Kerry Mech Pencil at 3:21? The date shown is 1971, the narrator mentions it's been on the market for "40 years", that's 10 years off from 2021. It should be 50 🙊

@user-vx3ut1fg7n
@user-vx3ut1fg7n 2 месяца назад
Well, if we assume that stationery companies have been existing in Europe since the 1500s (if there were any) you might be correct. However, I honestly do not know of any stationery company that was founded in Europe in the 16th century; some popular stationery companies in Europe had been established from the 17th to the 20th century even before the Japanese became familiar with them. Examples are Derwent, Koh-I-Noor, Faber-Castell, Kaweco, Pelikan, Lamy, Staedtler, Stabilo, Fedrigoni, Montegrappa, etc. Meanwhile, Japan had only started establishing many stationery companies during the Meiji era (1868-1912) until the latter part of the 20th century, especially after World War 2. Here are a few examples: Pilot (1918) Sailor (1911) Nakaya (later known as Platinum; 1919- the Nakaya still exists today) Pentel (1946) Kuretake (1902)😊
