I have been a car guy for 40 years, I learn more from these video's than any source in my life on engines. Thanks for the education and the time spent explaining the details.
****STEVE**** I personally believe Dewey deserves a raise for being such a good boy! i dont know what he is earning as of now but the Dewster deserves more for being a loyal hard worker :D
Between EJ's enthusiasm to learn anything or everything, Steve trying to remember dinosaur information, and finally, something I can understand everything I see for once, I so enjoyed this video, even at 42 minutes long
So, the sign of someone who truly wants to learn is someone that acts on information they have been given. Kudos to EJ for holding the linkage while Steve but the bowl on.. without asking. ;-)
Remember one thing Steve has said many times. You get back as you give, and when you know this, you also have an obligation to pass it on. He's a great engine builder and a fun likeable guy to watch, but what I like the most about watching Steve, is how he acts according to his principles. Many talk a big game of principles and ideals, few honour and live by them.
It was so awesome watching you explain how the A/F Ratio works on the old-school 4BBL 750 dbl pumper carbs. EJ seems really eager to learn and not afraid to try to do something new to her. That right there is exactly, why you should keep teaching her as much as you can, whenever she is around! The information explained so well is hard to come by. Excellent job Steve and EJ!
This is great seeing young girls coming in getting the ropes from a pro and really enjoy advancing their mind in this field especially old school stuff. Also learning the critical thinking process. She was getting pretty comfortable towards the end keep up the good work Steve. Really good horsepower out of that motor.
Excellent video, Steve looks good working on the old school SBC. And EJ, well she always looks good. I'm glad she got a little more knowledge on how the simple stuff works, the basics.
What a sweet human being - she gives me hope for that generation. Never stop learning EJ!!! Steve you are a born teacher. One of the best channels on RU-vid!
@Ammoniummetavanadate She's the one that did all the wraps for Tom Bailey and crew. She was behind the scenes mostly, but she has turned out to be very good at driving and is a fast learner. She is going to make it far, and people like working with her/teaching her. It's just exciting to see a young person start from the beginning and learn. We're going to hopefully see big things from her in the future
I stumped a tuner awhile back. My Mast Motorsports SS-LS7 was making 685hp on an engine dyno. I took out the SS cam and put in a Z06 cam and had the tuner de-tune the engine to 600hp. He was stumped because most people ask for more HP, not less. But I couldn't drive the car with the SS cam, it was too aggressive (race profile - wouldn't idle worth shit, and wouldn't make power until 2500rpm, great for pulling the front wheels off the ground - terrible for parades)
One absolute reason I like Steve Morris/Dewey's shop is he's with the engine throughout the build! Dewey is watching make sure he doesn't miss A thing. When I when I win the lottery I will send$$''''''' with him! Thanks again for your help! Dewey
Mr. Morris, I have single handed learned more from your vids than any other channel for tuning and performance subjects. This has also carried over into other areas of my life as well. I also am a follower of Christ and it makes a strong statement in your business model too. Thanks for your faith in our Lord.
would love to see you get ahold of one of these high dollar 410 sprint car engines with all pro heads. Maybe you can explain some neat simple stuff for us. probably never happen but maybe!
Ok by looking at the bore size it's at least a four hundred ci combined with smallish cam high tq numbers , tight 106 lobe sep cam isky known for that more power and torq that way , super nice motor , super good Dyno job
Great old school episode, very real world for a great deal of us, and fantastic way for EJ to learn, from a true pro. 👍🏼 Thanks Steve! And DIG the Dewey shirt!! 😂
Steve you are the consummate teacher, it’s great to see you showing the next generation the ropes. EJ way to keep your cool, first time jitters didn’t seem too bad. Great episode.
Steve, You are such an excellent Dude! It is very generous of you to teach this young person (and some not so young people) hands on how a Holley should work, and then to set the timing, and then to operate a dyno control board. This is how you raise up excellent adults. Your style and patience should serve as a model for the rest of us. Thank you, Sir.
550 to 600 horse 350 is pretty common these days? At under 6 grand much less! I just started watching your videos and you've got a nice clean shop and a nice personality. Good to see you giving a young lady some genuine hands on tutorials. She seemed very calm and having a calm teacher always helps the student IMO.
From drooling over the SMX..... To installing the Isky roller cam, carb jetting and running the Dyno.... Educational, Science and GOOD FUN. Steve Morris has it all (& Dewie) 😁👍🍻
It's like trying to suck a liquid through a straw that is cracked or or has a hole/access to air in it, the bigger the hole the harder to suck the liquid/less you get. The straw is the jet pulling from the bowl. The Air Bleed is the Crack or Hole/Access To Air before the Boosters/Mouth. Very easy physics experiment. Just how I see it in my simple mind. Very precise control if you have the right Hardware & understanding of it
Kudos 👏 to you Steve it's obvious that you love to teach , the way you took the time to explain what each part does to Ej is immensely important in her education you have to crawl before you can walk . Ej is eager to learn and with you teaching her tuning fundimentals and bailey teaching her to drive she will be successful.
I’m a pipe welder get you a pair of those green sleeves you can put them on take ‘em off anytime you get around those hot headers. Or anything you may get burn on.
Steve, thanks for the continuing education! I would like an episode regarding the relationship between Main Journal size, RPM, crankshaft oil passage routing, and oil pressure required to keep the rods journals oiled. For example I calculate that with the 3.25" cross drilled Mains in my Pontiac it would need 108 psi to keep the rods oiled at 8500 rpm. Thanks again!
Accelerator pump "check valve" "(Somebody had to...) Cool vid, food for thought for this old timer. And I appreciate that you took advantage of the chance to incorporate EJ.
Very good video! My wife’s c3 corvette, her dream car, when I got it finished. I had to teach her about how the carburetor works, even the electric choke, was new to her.
the spark plug and timing info was great....I learned something today....seen videos about reading plugs but it never made sense til you explained it....great videos....love the boosted videos but I have several old small blocks
Thanks for showing how engines are connected to the dyno. Seeing that splined shaft connect to the clutch/flywheel made it make all the sense in the world. Your videos are awesome.
Me n my brother was getting over 710hp from n old 350sbc,, bored 60 over... really good stuff in it but got lucky n caught a parts store going out of business n bought everything they had
That has to be one of the nicest non-patronizing teaching exercises I’ve ever watched. Fantastic! That’s the way my grandfather taught. Really enjoyed it!
I do wish you went with "let the big dog eat" for a tagline but I ordered my Dewey shirt regardless! Props to Steve for being such a great teacher and to EJ for being a good student.
A far cry different than how I learned from my old man. Hell, I couldn't even hold the flashlight right. But, I got all the lessons eventually. Really wish we had video back then. Lost of lost knowledge and memories. I miss you, Daddy.
Would love to see some more carburetor content Steve! Most of my building experience is hot street/strip engines. So im not big into injection nor do i really need it for my application. It's refreshing to see someone not afraid of a carburetor!
Ever let Tom run the dino , no , I laughed out loud that's funny. That's a strong well built old school motor that doesn't die easy . Another great video episode thank you team Steve.
Now that was a learning experience. I did a lot of those tricks on my Holley's; I just didn't know what they were called. Thanks for taking me back to the good old days Steve.
EJ picked up on running the dyno quickly. Good to see her hands on. She does not seem nervous running it. Even after hundreds of runs on my Dyno I get jittery. Then again it comes out of my wallet if I screw up😁 Fun video to watch. Having Dewey in the middle of everything makes me miss my shop dog, he is a good one.
Every workshop needs an EJ . Learning old school stuff is the way to go, how to adjust timing and how carbs work. Who thinks Kyle and EJ would make a nice couple . lol
I just love Steve’s impression of what happens when you put your hand on top of the distributor cap when it’s running! You only make that mistake once!
I swapped a Hydraulic Roller for a Flat Tappet in a Gen 1 SBC and called Howards Cams to tell them my pushrods were now way too long. They said a 7.150 should work, but I should use the adjustible measuring tool to make sure. I measured the correct lenght and it was... 7.150.
