The school that I got my CDL from only had 1 mannual and 5 automatic there was always a waiting list to get in the mannual, sometimes it wasn't avaliable for otr training and other times you couldn't get in before the school closed for the day. From this myself and so many others didn't get enough practice with the stick shift to pass the road test so it made sense to just go with the automatic. From my experience so far unless you're working with a small relatively young fleet with older trucks you're not gonna see a demand for mannual shift drivers

The left foot on the dash is a pure show-off. It's nowhere near any comfortable. None of them drive like that at night, because no one can see them flexing. Those are usually younger new drivers still enjoying the romance of trucking.

They don't carry tools and can't work on anything. I'm 30, but I follow the old school book of truck driving. I had a guy from my company years ago take a trailer from my yard. He drug the trailer from my driveway, down the street, and to the road. Tire went flat. All he had to do was back the brake off a little, but he was too lazy/didn't bother to check his mirrors.

More of a mindset than anything. I’m 24 and I’m much more aligned with the old school drivers
