Good work taking that chimney down, 'G'! What a great find, a hand forged Portuguese pot hanger, I think it might date back to the late 1700's. The house, kitchen, yard and garden are coming right along. Sweet Guffy, I love to see him having fun and barking at the tractor again. He sure is a lovable pup. 😁 hello my lovely !!!! I think It's time to show more of my garden !!! all that building and destroying things are so boring !!!! LOL Tomatoes are good !!! we had some of them already !!! :) You know when I tried to nock that chimney inside the room it was so hard !!! after 5 hits I though this is it I wont be able to do it ... but them I braked the hole !!! would be embarrassing if I couldn't nock that wall LOL kisses

You should raise the roof 50 cm and open the pitch wide so you can make the outside more usable/livable. It’s looking great

I agree, at least change the pitch to the front side and raise the roof height for your veranda. That way it could be a single slope/angle. Love your work. Your stonemasons were master at their trade.

Hi guys Well done on all your hard work, as for chimney and cleaning the stone there is a product called aguiferte (not sure if i have spelt this right, but Bee & Theo at the indie projects will be able to help they used it in their off grid property to clean the stones) hope this helps x

Hi guys! Regarding the soot in the chimney. Use a wire brush or the one that goes in your drill. Ad regards to the hook and chain from your fireplace. After you've built the patio porch area. You could have a firepit raised up about to foot. With the chain and hook hanging over, so you could have a bbq as well. 😊❤

Now that you have all those beautiful rocks, and you have watched the tradesmen build walls on your future home, you could build things also with what you have left on your property. Maybe something as simple as an animal building, chicken house, tool stone walls, and list is endless.

Great progress in the clear up. Looks amazing around the house now. The now dismantled chimney has made so much more room into that corner. The chain is a work of art. It would be nice clean it up and use it either in the kitchen or if it’s not possible to clean it enough use it may be for a hanging basket from it, may be a hanging basket of herbs. A nice nod to its importance in the past. ❤

Use the chain from the fireplace to hang over a outside fire pit and you can cook over it in a large cast iron pot as they used to inside.

we will install our beautiful log burnet (which we took from uk) so it still will be a HOT area ... that chimney wasn't good as heat went straight away up and it was smoky ... it had to go Gxxxx

Hey fam, This old chain was used to hang the iron pot for cooking. The small hooks could be used to raise the pot higher above the fire for slow cooking (lume brando) , and they could also be used to smoke sausages.(enchidos) Pretty nifty, huh? Great job!

I have been told that bicarbonate of sofa scrubbed onto the area then sprayed and scrubbed with vinegar is quite successful getting rid of soot.

It's not that easy. I watched Sean's World, him working on it, he tried different methods and products with mixed results. But he did get results. Just a heads up, it is difficult to clean. lol lovely video, loved the chimney demo, and that cool chain, the whole video was 'off the chain' 😂 ❤ 🎉 !

I love the chain...it's very old...a real relic...treasure it. Please can you reconsider the aluminium windows..you have done the building proud getting stone masons to work on it. Wooden windows would be more in keeping with the history and match those Wooden lintels. You can use the aluminium ones in the water tank conversion

Olá meus amigos a casa já se está a formar agora tem de tapar todos os buracos com cimento para a parede ficar lisinha. É um trabalho muito pesado mas o pior foi erger as paredes da cozinha aqueles profissionais fizeram um bom trabalho. E agora é o senhor Andrew que vai pôr o telhado? @assuncaomeireles198, such walls/houses should never get in contact with cement! The walls must be free to breathe! Pointing the walls inside with mortar (lime, sand) is already enough but also necessary to keep the critters (e.g. fleas) out. Cement/concrete may only be used on top of the walls as a safe foundation for the roof, but this would also mean to "lift" the ridge beam(s).

Just do it !!! life is to short .. it's more interesting to live like that .. some days it's not easy and for me hot running water from tap is luxury .. and I didn't had that nearly 2 years ..but It's not essential !! it will be done and I will have it .. but them little things what makes me happy !!! it's going back to basic and not paying crazy amount on bills makes up for it !!!! Gxxx

The best solution to clean the chimney wall is sand-blasting. You can rent a sand-blasting machine or have it done.

You two are great fun, and such hard workers. The house proportions now look way better, and the level (or stepped) patio out front will bring it all together. PS. I did wonder whether I would have kept that fireplace and chimney. Best wishes from a wet and windy south coast of England.

Thanks so much! the room looks so much bigger after I destroyed that chimney .. we do have lovely log burner which we took from UK so we will use it in a same corner .. it will be more heat officiant and will be so lovely to look at .. guffy will be sleeping next to it when the fire on ..like he did in UK Gxxx

It just wasn't practical ... heat was going out to the top of it .. and it was full of smoke .. log burner is so much safer .. it will be hot and you can have potato spuds cooking in it ;) I am 100% for log burner ;) G

Hi Shane :) Welcome to cold UK ;) Thank you very much for your kind comment !!!! Yes it is hard to work in heat and we do take 5 minute breaks every 2 minutes ... Joking ;) I think in summer time you just have to start work early like 6 -7 and then stop when sun it's to much ;

Поцелуй для безопасности...Вы можете порадовать,выполняя тяжеленную работу. Сейчас будут тысячи советов , как нужно использовать уксус и соду для очищения камней...(Волшебные пузырьки). Копоть и смолу надо удалять только щелочью - жидкостью для чистки грилей и мангалов, спрей для очистки стеклокерамических варочных поверхностей . Можно использовать профессиональный шампунь для мойки автомобилей (он растворяет все - обувь , машинное масло , одежду ....) Использовать с осторожностью. Кислоту для промывки канализации я бы не рекомендовал (и ее сложно купить обычному пользователю)., т.к. португальские граниты содержат много железа ,и камни станут "ржавыми". Может быть вам сразу сделать дренаж вокруг дома чтобы не таскать гравий с места на место?

If I may give my 2 cents. You better start with the roof ASAP. In July and August it will be too hot to work on the roof (temp of 40+) and the last couple of years the heat was directly followed by the raining season. :( a lot of work ahead of you but I love how you are renovating. About the black wall, if you are going to render and paint it, Little Spanish farmstead used a product that worked really well and is available in Spain so maybe also in Portugal. Maybe you can ask them the name of the product?

Don't clean it, varnish it with clear varnish, then people can see where the chimney was forever😂 or build a cupboard in the corner right up to the ceiling, or build a chimney there???😂
