“Old-time Auckland” delves into the history of New Zealand’s biggest city, while pushing future technologies with music production and AI learning.
Dusting off 29 iconic photos of the city, “Old-time Auckland” reveals how the exact same spots look, some 100 years later.
Along with the visuals, 1920’s-era song “Living The Dream” plays throughout the video. This swinging jazz number references popular Auckland hotspots, while the gramophone crackles away and skips in time with the projector. What’s interesting here is that the catchy track was not sung by some flapper during the great depression - it was performed by AI in 2024. Written and edited by Jonty, the music ties in with the photos, with revealing video transitions breaking down the barrier of time.
