@MrPecony It was particularly different in deep mud: Sometimes not even the LandCruisers got through, only the lighter, higher and slimmer Prados. BTW: I have no other preferences, I am not biased, I own neither a Prado nor a Pajero, I just drove them for my former job.

He's very 'yarse, ew yarse absolyootley, shoot my butler'. Back then the show was fronted by a bunch of awful posho toryboys who spoke like you were scum and they were doing you a favour. So I'd imagine Jeremy tried to fit in. And over time he realised they were dull, he was more interesting and, more importantly, popular than they were, and he started leaning into his own personality a bit more. And the show responded by making him the focus. Very good idea.
They're gonna have even more financial problems for not producing any good cars. Frankly I still don't know how things went wrong with Mitsubishi. But at the point where they stopped innovating is when they start dying. I can't recommend any of their cars anymore. Any brand new Mitsubishi looks like a 10 y/o car out of the box. Might as well just buy a 10 y/o one for a third of the price.
@@Byrxn I actually know EU/US and ASEAN market well. By ASEAN standards, I say they have 3 cars that are solid ( Xpander, Pajero Sport, Triton ), considering the technology development and build quality in the market. I might still be able to recommend those 3 cars. Problem is that EU/US spec cars have the same technology and build quality as ASEAN spec cars, which is just embarrassing. It's a dying brand that's underdeveloped and it's sad to see where Mitsubishi is heading.
The Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero/Shogun depending on where you live has won the Dakar Rally 7 times in a row from 2001-2007. The Mitsubishi Pajero also has 12 wins total, making it the most winning car thus far in the Dakar Rally.
Pajero Evolution not only won 12 times, it was on the podium almost every year from 84 to 2007. Couple of years only Mitsubishis were on the podium. Idk what happened to them after 2007. May be it was the economic crash of 2008.
They do that in America don't they. The car is built and sold in the present, but the dealership tell you it's from the future. Even the documents are done up as such.
Interesting! I have the newer unibody frame on my 2002 Montero. It’s 18 years old (purchased new in 2001) and has well over 220k miles on it. 2017 was my FIRST shop repair when the sunroof got stuck open. Sadly though... Nisan exec's feel their vehicles are better and the Monte is dead. 2018 sales worldwide were 1000 units. That's nothing.
@@Erin-Thor yeah I have an 03 exceed with 250k and only things I've had to replace and im going out bush all the time is tires, cvs, fuses and a fuel pump. 3inch is the most you can get them lifted due to being a solid body or somthing but hey you get a 4/4 in roll safety haha but still I haven't found a 4x4 track I haven't been able to get through if other cars can get through. It's definitely a more comfortable ride than a scruffy Hilux or patrol 😅
This Mitsubishi was called "Montero " in Latin America instead of its original name "Pajero" (only used in Brazil) ... why? because Pajero in some Latin American countries means "wanker" and obviously, nobody wants a car named wanker
Juan Diego Pinillos - MITSUBISHI SOLD THEIR TOUGH BIG OLD SUV’S AS PAJEROS AND MONTEROS IN INDIA. THESE NAMES MEAN NOTHING HERE. JUST SOUND VAGUELY LATINO. NOW SADLY MITSUBISHI DID AN OWN GOAL AND HAS SINCE DIED IN THE INDIAN MARKET.
Shankar, Pajero was never a real part of the Indian market. The double trim version was introduced new in India when this face of the Pajero 2 was already dead. The 3.5L full grade was only used by the ultra rich of India in the 90s to some extent and that was it. We in Bangladesh in the other hand abused it to full scale. They rocked the 90s and the early 2000s. So much so that the Shotgun is still assembled in Bangladesh by Pragati.
I live in the US, where we get it as the Montero, I actually prefer its original name "Shogun" because that I feel that it is far better suited to this vehicle unlike those 2 other names. Mainly since "shogun" means "general" in Japanese, it is very appropriate as this truck is like a warrior when off-road, and it's strong and very well-built.
+Seth Guest It's original name is actually "Pajero". "Shogun" is the name for it only in the U.K. market. We don't get it in the U.S. because Mitsubishi Motors North America hasn't sold the Montero since 2006.
KoushiroIzumi85 I hope you don't me saying this, but I just thought that "Shogun" was a better name for it and reflected it's origins more than "Montero".
I was only pointing out that Pajero was it's original name and not Shogun (which you claimed in your original comment). Shogun does sound better than Montero, though.
@@BorisBidjanSaberi11 the chassis is perfect it's just the DOHC 3.5L 6G74 engine that is the issue. Engine failure is common issue. Mine threw a piston. The 3.0L SOHC was a much better engine than the 3.5L
@@randomstuff4639 depends you planning on getting a diesel engine or a petrol engine I know the 2004 engine is a 6g75 a few issues with it but mainly breathing hoses fall apart easily causing the engine to misfire. But alot of those hoses would be replaced. Haven't dealt with a 2005 Pajero engine much so I can ask my mate and get his advice
Great cars. We've had ours for over 5 years now and it's barely put a foot wrong (usual wear and tear you'd expect). Only problem is the rust on the bodywork - no better or worse than an old Discovery. Underneath though, it's pristine. Love it.
Amazing how Clarkson's opinion on this car has changed over the years. While he praises it in this episode, he blows one up in one of his recent DVD specials. Also, IIRC, the new Top Gear destroyed a couple of Shoguns.
TG was never good on consistency. They loved the Peugeot 1008 when it came out, then panned it years later in their piece on how awful Peugeots had become.
I used to have a 2.8 TD LWB Pajero which I gave an abosolute hammering. Was a great car. Only put 33" mud tyres on and a 2" suspension lift and I was able to do anything any other 4x4 could including heavily modified landrovers with THOUSANDS spent of them... Actually, I've lost count of the number of land rovers I've pulled out with it! Only ever got stuck once and that was in a deep bog that I sank in up to nearly my wing mirrors! My 3.0 V6 SWB shogun on the other hand... Bog standard except for 31" BFG Muds and it's even better still! Its an animal! Only thing to watch out for is wet roads with mud or shit road tyres on though. With all that power it doesn't take very much to end you up sideways ;) my next one is going to be the 3.5 V6 or the Evolution spec model!
Erik Tullabal Mitsubishi didn't find out until they had already marketed it in Europe, including Spain and South America. Soon after launch they changed the name to 'Montero' in Spain and South America. In the UK it's called Shogun but still called Pajero in Europe (except Spain)
Getting a 1995 nj 4door next week why pay way more for a new car when you can get it super cheap and build it with mods and don’t mind it getting scratched in the Bush.
@@joeredmond7227 I always found it cringy when they would do scripted reactions to pre-planned stuff. I've never understood why they couldn't do all the same stuff but without the acting, aside from the short comedy bits.
I have a 3.8 v6 mitsubishi montero whith 300 hp repro ecu.. Is fast. And 4 inches lifted with 315/70r17 on ... In the atacama desert ridees like it shoul ride a v6 but If u dont know when to turn off the tcs u must learn a lot of modern cars .. P.d. the original name is mitsubishi kaiteki
pajero, Montero, shogun...same thing but different names. they called pajero "Montero" in America or south America and spain because its an offensive word. in Britain its shogun but I have no clue why.how ever, Mitsubishi announced they will dump this car and produce a replacement or more advanced car called GC-PHEV by 2021 I believe (the GC stands for grad cruiser)
As a Land Rover and Mitsubishi owner, I can say without question the Mitsubishi Montero, Shogun wins hands down in every category. My Land Cruiser was not as off road capable as the Montero. The Montero experienced only one failure (Sunroof got stuck open) in 17 years and 220k miles. The Land Cruiser had 3 transmission failures, and a half dozen electrical failures before I sold it at 47k miles 4 years after purchase.
@@AhmedMahmoud-sq7xg well i never really watched it but when i saw it on TV they transformed a Van into a thing that can literally drive on water idk its name
