Interesting how, despite being filmed nearly 28 years ago, the prices he's talking about for mid level condition examples are not a million miles off what you can get them for these days in the UK. People often ask me how much MGBs are worth and I tell them that they can be anything from a few hundred quid to £20k+ depending on condition and model. We love our '73 BGT, have had many good holidays and weekend trips in it.

My 73 MGB is my daily driver and I couldn’t be happier. After doing quite a bit of work, replacing the engine and more it runs like a dream!

I have a late model 1980 B 150000 miles that has never seen a welder, filler or engine rebuild many thanks to Ziebart treatment ( sorry about the spelling if it's incorrect). Service it regularly and it just keeps on going.

I did like the Rubber Bumper models simply because of the ride height or road clearance. I really needed that where I live. Traveled a lot of county gravel roads and still do. I switched from 14" to 15" on the wheels and put the tallest fattest rubber I could stuff in the wheel wells. That gave me a great ride, ride height, and more speed per RPM on the highway. Plus it made the car look awesome. I've gotten a lot of compliments.

I agree, as well as being safe, frankly I think with new rubber , paint and wheels their beautiful cars, just different from the older ones, more modern.

Outstanding video and presentation. As a life long MGB owner I am very fortunate to have several restored example in my collection. 68, 71, 79 and 80. I recently added a 68 MGC GT that is next on the retoration list.

Really feel like older British cars like this MG should have had a V8 :/
@MinscS2
@MinscS2 5 лет назад
They did make MGB GT-versions with a V8 in the 70's, and the MGC had a straight 6.
@Samspianopage
@Samspianopage 5 лет назад
@@MinscS2 Aye but they should've made it in standard convertible V8 form too, probably BL was worried it'd take away sales of the Triumph Stag though if they did that, despite that being a bigger car. They did daft things like that. I think the standard MGB has that classic happy revving 5 cylinder charm of the Lotus Elan though, and the Spitfire and all them other little sports cars, a V8 revs much lower most of the time and the gearing's different Even if it has bags more low down grunt. But yeah I agree they should've made the V8
@MinscS2
@MinscS2 5 лет назад
@@Samspianopage Possibly, or they were afraid that the chassis would flex too much on the convertibles after adding the more powerful (and heavier) V8, so the settled on only making GT-versions for added stability- That doesn't really make much sense though since afaik the 6-cylinder cast-iron MGC-engine is heavier than the 8-cylinder aluminium MGB V8-engine, and the MGC was built as a roadster as well as a coupe.

It always strikes me funny as to why the Bits or any one for that matter, has their head above the windshield. That's just not right. And looks horrible too. I've had 4 MGBs and love them like crazy but my head doesn't poke out above the windshield, for I'm short and getting noticeably shorter with old age. The auto industry really needs to make special models for folks over 6' tall. I really do miss the original MGBs.

Everyone Raves about MX5,s personally i think they too feminine, the MGB is a much Much MUCH better looking car early one,s especially, sadly they have ''BL'' build quality, and the sleep inducing boring MX5 being Japanese is DEAD reliable but to me BORING!!!!

Before you part with any money. For Gawds sake look at alternatives. For 6000 you can get a Porsche a Mazda MX 5 anything. The hype around dated design MG s is not worth it. Unless you consider a T series. Remember all MGB owners never go anywhere without a tool kit and spares in the boot
@Paintppa1
@Paintppa1 4 года назад
Some consider that part of the charm of owning an MGB. Personally I spend more time tinkering with the car than I ever will driving it. Us old guys consider it therapy, fixing this or that and then enjoying the satisfaction of getting the job done. There's always something that needs attention and that gives us purpose and a reason to get up and get going in the morning.
@skibusch1

You have to be a true MG lover. Once you've replaced a couple fuel pumps, u-joints, clutches, and adjusted the SU carbs a dozen times, the pleasure of driving a pure sports car makes it all worthwhile.

The notion that Porsche or Mazda don't need mantainance too, is asinine at best. Not to mention that it's been a long time since the germans made anything that had affordable parts, didn't have electrics prone to shorts & scarce parts, and wasn't gopping ugly. An MX-5 is fine if you want a plastic plagarism of a British Sports Car (literally), but I for one would rather have the real thing, and speak the same language as those whom made the car / supply the spares.
