Best advice anyone gave me about buying a kayak is make sure you sit in it for as long as you are allowed before you buy it, because you need to be comfortable in it for long days on the water.

It looks pretty nice! Both my pro angler came from strictly sail, now that I moved down to southern SC last summer I have to find a new Hobie dealer. Theirs more dealers down here so I have figure out who is better of them with customer service. The guys at strictly sail always took care of me!..

I grew up paddling Old Town canoes and kayaks, so I'm a huge fan of their boats... I just prefer the Hobie pedal "kick" movement over the bicycle-style movement of an Old Town pedal drive, but that doesn't make the Old Town kayaks any less fantastic!
I love my pdl 106 it’s a good size stable and overall the smartest choice for my style really comfortable and turns easy and smooth. If anyone has the chance to get one get it! Don’t sleep on it!
One thing no one talks about is the first time you go fishing in a PDL kayak is your legs will be very sore that night and the next day or I sure was lol and I ride bicycle a lot too.Guess I stayed out to long fishing but I had a ball until that night wow my legs hurt so bad and even the next day they hurt but later in the day they got better.I was only out maybe 2 hours think I was site seeing more than fishing.And you will need an anchor for your kayak when fishing I learn this the hard way.But I still love my PDL 106
That just shows you are getting good exercise! I believe the Old Town PDL 106 comes with an anchor trolley, but with the instant reverse, I would prefer to just manage my positioning with the pedals.
Just got one and I lift that thing on top of my bmw 430i. Any larger I wouldn’t be able to do it as it’s already hard being wider than my 10’ vibe yellowfin. Going out tomorrow morning for the first time ever on a pedal drive. Drive unit seems super smooth.
Forgot to mention only thing I don’t like is the scupper plugs, I took mine out of my vibe Kayak and they fit perfect and sit flush with no strings to remove them. Just ordered another set for my old town

Almost everyone on the kayak bass trails uses a pedal drive now, and they are very easy to get used to working around. And the benefits of having your hands free to fish instead of paddle are everything! Get out and demo or at least sit in for a while as many kayaks as you can before you buy... making sure you are comfortable is the most important thing, or you won't enjoy those long days on the water! A lot of it is which movement you are more comfortable with. Hobie Mirage drives have flippers like a penguin, and you do a “kick” moment of the pedals, creating movement in pushing the pedals. All other drives that I’m aware of use a bicycle-style drive where you move the pedals around the circle like a bicycle, which powers a propeller in the water. The Hobie drive seems to handle grass a little better where the propeller can get tangled. The Hobie flippers can be split apart with the pedals and pushed flat against the hull, allowing safe clearance of obstacles. In the Old Town’s favor, the bicycle style drive means an instant reverse, going backwards by simply pedaling backwards. The Hobie drive requires you pull a cable to switch the find into reverse. I much prefer the Hobie drive style, but that instant reverse on the propeller drives is really handy for fishing!

How long have you fished from your pdl? How do you like it comparison to pro angler? Im on my second PA12. It's plenty of room for me, my father in law has 14, thier both awesome. For me the 12 is where it's at.

Pretty good review, but the “camera person” needs a lot of work “getting the shot” - VERY frustrating that they don’t show what the reviewer is talking about.
