I think that's because general motors failed to do their part and make the 10 speed transaxle. last time Ford does a joint venture with those jokers should have made the deal with toyota/asin then atleast they would have got their part done lol.

The front end of the new Explorer is hideous. If I bought a new 3 row SUV It would likely be a Kia Telluride, or Hyundai Palisade; this coming from a die hard Ford guy. I have a 2013 Ford Flex Limited Ecoboost which, in my opinion, was the best 3 row family hauler Ford ever produced. I'll never understand why Ford did such a terrible job at marketing it.

John Martin no cap, i think the new explorer is so sexy, the 2020 the front looks amazing. I guess it just appeals to different people. I think the 2020 explorer is the best looking 3 row suv out there, the kia telluride is one of the nicest too, front end wise, but the rear is so ugly (i thought it was so sexy but i saw it in person and oh no... it was terrible looking, the front is still sexy tho) Idk, it appeals to me, my father bought a 2017 explorer, and i like it but the 2020 appeals to me more, it also looks taller, (or looks taller) The infotainment system is booty tho... that vertical tablet... but 🤷🏽‍♂️ whatever Im not a die hard ford fan, or chevy, im more of a motorcyle guy.... but for suv’s id be in it for a 2020 explorer, if they kept the 2011-2019 look maybe the new 2018-2019 chevy traverse, (the new platform is nice too) 🤷🏽‍♂️ Everyone has their tastes

Fun Fact: Michael Crichton originally wrote that the tour cars were Toyota Land Cruisers. “A line of Toyota Land Cruisers came out of an underground garage beneath the visitor center. Each car pulled up, driverless and silent…” Even more interesting, the Land Cruisers were made specifically for the park in Osaka, Japan, and were fully electric for the park’s zero emissions policy!

They need to make cars with at least amount of electronics in them as they can. The reason why I like older cars and trucks, less electronics that can tear up with age and cost so much to fix. I know so many people has to have those for comfort but it get expensive as they age to fix them, so I think they need to sell bear bone cars for those of us that don't like all the headaches with all the stuff that can go wrong with these vehicles now a days.

The best explorers are middle ages rather than old or new. *A 1998-2001 are available with a V8 for Extra towing, updated suspension, and a solid rear axel ... *A 2003-2006 are available with a 3rd row of seats a more powerful V8, 5 speed automatic, independent rear suspension, and the V8s are now available with a low range transfer case. *A 2009-2010 are available with a with the 292hp V8, 6 speed automatic, traction control, and better fuel economy. 95-97 explorers are similar to 98-01 but have a little less power. 06-08 explorers are similar to the 2009-2010 but they have a weaker transmission on the V8 model and slightly inferior fuel efficiency.

No. 04 from the movie had the plexiglass roof (like Andre mentioned), the low back leather seats, the instrument cluster was removed along with the radio and climate control stack for a touch screen CRT monitor, the steering wheel had a piece of plexiglass over it to avoid anyone from bumping or moving the wheel thus causing the vehicle to possibly derail. There was some kind of winch system on the lower part of the push bar in the front. There was also a light bar on the roof with 3 KC-like lights. And the engines were removed for electric motors on a track system. The other Explorer in the movie was No. 05, which survived the T-Rex attack. No. 04 was pushed over the concrete wall and fell into a tree. Then when Dr. Grant was helping Tim get out of the vehicle and tree, it fell and landed right side down on top of them. Tim: "Well...we're back...in the car again." Dr. Grant: "At least you're out of the tree."

Fun video!! Had a 94 explorer... was amazing in the sand and helped unstuck several vehicles - even a big duely. My biggest complaint was the auto licking hubs were not durable. One day I took it to the beach and made it about 30 ft into the sand before getting stuck because 4WD didn’t engage. Apparently there is a plastic part in the mechanism that easily sheers off. I must have broke it when we got snow one day and I took off from a stop with some wheel spin before hitting pavement. At least that is what I was told at the time.

The 4WD buttons in the Explorers and Rangers back then sucked. My Dad had a 1994 Ranger. I remember he had a hard time getting it in and out of 4WD. Then sometimes it would shift into 4WD without the button being pressed but it wouldn't lock both hubs in the front. Only one would. He would try pushing the button to get it to engaged fully or find a place to back up and hope that it would disengage so he could continue to drive it.
@jpippinator
@jpippinator 5 лет назад
The push button for 4x4 is iffy in these, but all you need to do is crawl under and turn the shaft with some vice grips if you’re in a sticky situation. They also had terrible ground clearance. The front end was like a plow and the u bolt plates in the back would catch things. I had some skid plates made for them that protected the u bolts and raised the shock mount. Then I went to spring over axle in the back and fixed the issue completely. They are great beach trucks. You can even jump them.

I had to get rid of it in 2003 because my elderly parents could not get in to it so I had to go to a sedan :-( It had been my favorite vehicle until I got my 20017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before buying the Jeep I looked at the new Explorer and hated it. If I could have kept the 99, I'd still be driving it or kept it around as an extra. I know lots of people that got over 200K on the old Explorers.

I had a 1994 4x4 Eddie Bauer (actually 2 wheel drive...1 in front and 1 in back) IT WAS A POS FOR OFF ROADING...I GOT STUCK IN MY FRONT YARD TWICE...had to call tow truck to pull me out both times!!! Otherwise we loved the truck and sold it with 135,000 miles (NO Problems). The guy that bought it from us still has it!!!!!

That's how all 4x4 work (one wheel in each axle will have traction). That is unless you have lockers on the front or rear axles(or both).

Its funny to track the evolution of the SUV. In the beginning they were body on frame offroad capable trucks. Now they are unibody crossovers with less capability offroad but not more luxurious and better road manners. I hope Ford doesnt water down the Bronco. Please Ford make a body on frame offroad king.

Too bad the international car market wasn't introduced to this vehicle. Here in the philippines, the only classic ford explorer we had in the market was a 2nd gen ford explorer followed by the expedition. I'm so having curiosity about the automotive marketry of us. As a pinoy and was taught with english language, I can say that having a movie car reviewed in this channel would open me up to liking cars in the mid category. What you got then that you don't now - amazing volume to size ratio. Look at the cargo volume and load height on the gen1. Of course the new one won't crumple into a ball in an accident

@@Darealmalik23 Trashy engine?, They might be trashy to someone who doesn't know how to build them. I rebuilt my engine @ 280K it still ran well. Once built w/ headers, larger throttle Body, ported and polished 2nd gen heads, 3 angle valve grind, Mahle performance rings. It's now pushing 225hp. I'm very happy with my SOHV engine. Push rod engines are on the rebound, Mustang GT500 and LS1 are pushrod engines. They are shorter, simpler, quieter lighter and at 19.5mpg economical.

Better is subjective, it really depends on what you want out of an SUV. If you want a rugged SUV that is capable of going off road and withstanding alot of punishment the first generation is for you. If you want a comfy, posh, and refined SUV to use to go grocery shopping or to go to soccer practice the current generation is for you.

The first generation, although slower and less safe, is more off-road worthy and rides on a truck platform. The current generation lacks low range and is a mall crawler unibody crossover that has the front end of a minivan. The generation before the 2020 model, however, looked better than what they're offering now in my opinion.

No,, the answer is simply no the new one isn't better than the old one. 4x4, transfer case, body on frame. New one is kinda stylish, but what makes it stand out. They all look like jelly beans on wheels now. I've had 5 explorers, sports, xls, xlt, some lifted on 33s. (Quick way to kill transmission) live and learn. Maybe they'll give us back our explorers in due time, some people do enjoy going off roading, or driving on the outer banks beaches to do Exploring. Great video Andre, enjoy your excitement that you bring.
