Yoshi’s Crafted World was released in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch. Caddy isn’t a fan. After the games as bad as Yoshi’s New Island (ugly too, I mean come on), jumping all the way to the games as great as Yoshi’s Woolly World, I was hoping that this Yoshi’s Crafted World review would be gleaming in positivity. After checking out the Yoshi’s Crafted World trailer and seeing all the Yoshi’s Island theme giving way to all the Yoshi’s Island meme content, I was invigorated and ready for another great Yoshi game. Alas, this isn’t the case. When looking at Yoshi’s Crafted World gameplay today, I’ll actually be comparing it directly to the Yoshi installment that came immediately before it - with Yoshi’s Woolly World gameplay from the Wii U (well, more accurately, it’s Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World gameplay for the 3DS port, but it’s basically the same game, just a port). Consider this more of a Yoshi’s Crafted World vs Woolly World video. I played 5 hours of Crafted World Switch gameplay in comparison to 90 minutes of Woolly World 3DS gameplay to give Crated World the biggest possible advantage, yet it still failed to impress me after going through it 100% so far, doing all the souvenir hunts, finding all the collectibles etc. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean this is a Yoshi’s Crafted World walkthrough though. I’m not that brave. Or bored. And don’t get me started on Yoshi’s Crafted World music. My oh my, this OST is dreadful. It’s bad. Not at all like the Yoshi’s Island theme. No meme today. Sorry. Well the music itself is enough of a meme, I guess. By the way, don’t expect to see anything to do with bosses. In 5 hours I only managed to reach 1 boss. 1. So don’t look for a video about Yoshi’s Crafted World all bosses or something. You’ll be disappointed.

I mean dude kinda deserves to be called back, nearly every level has a unique theme, even the special final level has a separate theme for each section even though you visit each said section before the music can even loop, and all of the music sounds great! And then you have Crafted world which sounds like a bunch of discordant recorders played by me.

@@primaltrainer1018 I believe they are saying that someone put a rock on the jump button, and a rock on the joystick, so it'd be stuck going right. So, in the end, he pretty much just held right and held the jump button to win a level. I don't see why they'd have to use rocks though, they could just hold the button and the stick. EDIT: done specifically on mellow mode, not the normal mode.

Gold Connor It’s called a meme for a reason. Memes like that are supposed to take innocent characters and portray them in an unexpected and different way for the sake of humor. It's the same reason why people portray Shaggy as an all-powerful god despite being a coward in his source material. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously anyway.

@@IfIHadMyTimeAgain the 3ds port is the best port for the 3ds imo. luigi's mansion lags a lot, kirby's extra epic yarn was a little too late but a worthy port (just should've been a switch title), and super mario maker was pointless without online level sharing. yoshi's wooly world had a better map, more features, an easy mode that wasn't just a instant win button, customizable yoshis that were even better, and impressive visuals and music for a wii u port.

Final Boss is pretty okay. I won't spoil anything for people reading this comment if they haven't gotten there. But man, it isn't as good as Baby Bowser from the first and not as bad as the DS games were.

Game is like an 7 or 8/10 for me,if you ignore the souvenirs. Getting 100% in this game though is shameful, the absolute worst case of padding I've ever seen and actually makes the levels worse and less fondly remembered by the time it's over. I enjoyed the game a lot just playing through it like normal Yoshi game. But usually I do 100% a game as I go like you did, but it literally ruins the game this time.

You and I had very similar experiences with this game, and I think I'm about as far into it as you are. It is such a tedious game to complete, and I loved Woolly World and completed it 100%. I think I still want to try to make it through it, but I'm definitely not going to go for that 100%. It feels too much like I'm going at a snail's pace through the game with how many times you have to replay each level. Not to mention how many levels there are before you actually reach a boss. I'm enjoying it enough to want to keep going, but I agree that if you try to 100% complete every level from the get-go, the game will probably lose you.

i love crafted world too and i think it comes to different gameplay desires, the completionist likes to collect things while caddy here only likes to sometimes, i love searching for secrets and hidden things so yeah i can see why some like it and some dont.

I remember yoshi's Island, where the opening was literally just a music box playing, complete with the sound of someone winding up the box again to get the music playing again. I remember always loving that detail for some reason. The music for that game was just perfect.

In defense of the aiming style (not the foreground-background selection, that can go to World 8), the manual movement worked pretty well in Yoshi's Story. I personally find it more reliable than the traditional Yoshi's Island style of automatically-move-while-only-allowing-a-fixed-point-when-aiming-upward. Again, this in no way excuses the terrible background aiming controls, those were a horrible attempt to lessen the number of buttons required to play and it just made the aiming itself feel bad.

I agree. Yoshi's Woolly World felt way more fun and creative and it looked amazing. Crafted World was cute at first, but I got bored of the Box visuals fast. :( Makes me wish they brought Yoshi's Woolly World to the Switch.

When I saw Wolly World i wasn't completely hooked on it but still interested in playing it and when i did play I had a blast. Crafted World never grabbed my attention. I played the demo of crafted and got incredible bored. yeah i can't judge it because i only played one level but that one level was just so....boring to me that I don't care..... also Wolly Yoshi looks cuter and better than Crafted Yoshi. FIGHT ME!!!

I'm actually astounded by how many people seem to enjoy this game. Caddy and myself are apparently the minority, yet nobody ever really seems to have a counter point. People seem to be ok with bad game design so long as the art is ok... which, more power to ya I guess. You're free to like mediocrity though. Look at the Marvel movies, or COD, or the entire Battle Royale genre...

Calling something like crafted world mediocrity is your own opinion. While my opinion is I love the game. Saying Super Metroid is a bad game because you don't like platformers is equivalent in this case. You don't like the asthetic or the reasons people play this game. If you want a hardcore platformer the gaming market has you covered. You don't have to force yourself into a game playstyle you don't like because there was a different artistic style and thought process behind it.

Agreed that the tediousness of the souvenirs made me tired of replaying levels pretty fast as someone who always 100%'s Yoshi's Island like games. Pissed me off so hard when the souvenir asked for was something I KNEW was at the end of the level. Would've been better if they made the souvenir prizes the optional costumes rather than towards 100%ing the flowers then remove the gacha. I absolutely adored the background design for the crafted feel, the levels themselves had super memorable designs imo, and making them all playable in reverse was cool as heck. But the thought always came back to me that I swear I enjoyed Wooly Worlds gameplay and music better (Fluffin Puffin Babysittings's and Naval Pirahna Plants music comes to mind). Part of me feels the souvenir stuff was for replays with multiplayer friends over time like the puzzle pieces in Kirby Star Allies rather than actually trying to complete them all by replaying everything x30. About to face down the final boss after I've 100%'d everything else, hopefully it's a cool one!

Idk if I agree in terms of the full game because the game lost me at the free demo. The fact that it wanted me to go through the same stage 3 times in a row made me think it would be like that in the full game. And I guess I was right to an extent.

I downloaded the demo having never played a Yoshi game for any decent length of time before. I was not impressed. Although I should also note I played a bit of the original Yoshi's Island and didn't like it, and I hated Mega Man X, so maybe I'm just a prick with bad taste in games

I honestly think the souvenirs were added in near the end of development to try and make the game last longer, what Nintendo did was artificially extended the game in a way that isn’t meaningful and actually degrades the experience. What they wanted to do was make the game last longer, not to make something interesting. And also there is no way anyone at Nintendo 100% this game legit because they would absolutely see that it isn’t fun.

My biggest complaint about Yoshi's Crafted World are indeed the many requests from the Blockafeller robots, but I actually still like this game and have enjoyed playing it so far.

Yeah... Crafted World doesn't leave a good first impression. I still found it very fun though. I haven't beaten it yet but what I've played is quality (atleast in my opinion).

The bad music is the saddest part of this for me, Woolly World had some amazing music, some of my all time favourites in fact, I would say the track "Up Shuttlethread Pass" would make top 10 for me of all video game ost's period, do yourself a favour and look it up if you are reading this comment, it is a great piece of music and not... shrill kazoos. Come on, they didn't learn from New World?

Excellent of you to voice your (possibly) unpopular opinion of this game. I have not played it yet so I can’t say for sure whether I like or dislike it. I do really like how good you are at explaining your position and providing good examples. You’ve gained a lot of talent over the years and it’s awesome to see how far you’ve come. And through all these years you still voice your opinion on a game whether or not it goes along with the masses. I really respect you for it. and it’s always interesting for me to hear a viewpoint that conflicts my own. All in all, excellent video. Keep up the good work caddy!

He’s really the only one to publicly say it, but this is the general consensus, it’s either just okay or the most torturous thing you’ve ever played to most people. I line up on the latter as I was practically begging for mercy before I ever even got to the first boss, it just keeps going and going and going…and it wouldn’t be a big deal if there wasn’t so much to do, I got to the first giant craft robot level and felt like I’d played a full game already, but nope, just keeps going. Wooly World on the other hand is basically the polar opposite, it’s well paced, doesn’t ask for much, and feels much more involved.

Yeah, I can see how the game is disappointing for you. The game is much better if you just try to finish the levels, go for the story, then comeback later to complete the levels. I don't find the game disappointing though. A real disappointment would be Kirby: Star Allies. Even my wife lost interest playing that Kirby game and she loves the cute and easy platformers.

@@metumortis6323 Game-design theory is a thing though. You can objectively analyze what makes a game enjoyable on a base level. This game fails in many categories of that, and Caddy knowingly or unknowingly makes not of several of them (the lack of tangible reward for repetition, the lack of variety, etc.). Whether or not you enjoy it doesn't mean this game isn't poorly designed. You can enjoy eating cat shit, but that doesn't make the litter-box a 5-star restaurant. I'm not saying this game is cat shit, but it's certainly not well designed outside of its visuals.

For example, I find it difficult to enjoy easy games (with some exceptions) so saying a game isn't fun because it is not difficult is not necessarily incorrect or a poor way of judging fun. As far as I'm concerned, I am glad people can enjoy things I can't. I just don't like dismissiveness without any nuance

Also, there is a MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING!!!! Bonus boss after you beat the game in another world where you can fight Kamek. The fight is actually difficult.....But not fun at all. The first two phases are fine, but phases 3 and 4 are brutal, particularly phase 4, where you have to hit every single minion he sends at you without fail when they come at you in droves equivalent to the people who try to get banned off Yandev's social medias because it's more fun than playing his game. And the icing on top of the cake? You're forced to go into the Go-Go Yoshi. This isn't fun and challenging. This is just cheap and unfair.

Looking back, this game is similar to Crash 4, in terms of padding and repeating content, obviously Yoshi and Crash are completely different series, im just saying these games have similar forms of padding to get to 100% and both games feel the need to justify your purchase …

Sadly, when I got my Nintendo Switch, this was the first game I got for the system. I was a big fan of Wooly World and thought this was going to be just as good.
