ABC13 recently discovered what is believed to be the oldest recording of a live broadcast from the station.
While ABC13 has thousands of rolls and reels of films from stories that were shot, there are no recordings of actual newscasts or shows from the 1960's.
The show was called "Soundtrack" and was scheduled from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The episode is from January 14, 1959.

My mother Maxine Fisher hosted a childrens show on KTRK 13 called Merri Melody in 1957. She was there when the station first signed on the air in 1956. I wish they had some clips from that show. I have lots of photos from the station at the time and shots off the monitor but no actual footage.

When I was a kid maybe around 12 years old I had a paper route on my bicycle delivering the Houston Chronicle. Mr Bob Stevenson was on of my customers in Northside's Lindale subdivision. I recognize him from watching him on television, I remember he was a very nice man and he used to engage me in conversation when I would visit him once a month to collect money for the month of delivering the newspaper. Great times ! Thanks for the old television footage.

I was a kid in the 1950s, so I didn’t care about “Soundtrack”, but my favorite TV show was “WEIRD” on Saturday nights on KTRK. It showed a wide diversity of horror/sci-fi movies.

I too was around at that time in Houston, and I can remember my sister and I staying up to watch WEIRD on Saturday Night. It came on after the 10:00 PM News and some the movies they showed left me sleepless. We loved watching it.

Johnny Carson used to keep a lit cigarette handy too. Occasionally see him take a hit. I think they stopped that in the 70's...

I do hope the families of the teenagers killed in the car crash they were reporting on were notified by the police department of their son’s death before they heard it on the news
