Organs are solid investments. Look, megachurches spend so much a year on tech equipment for praise bands and pop music. But all you need to do is find a guy who will build you something like this for a couple of goats, tear out the carpets and ditch the seat covers, and you're set with beautiful worship music for the next 700 years.
@samsylvester2140
@samsylvester2140 8 лет назад
if you take good care of them, then you are right... But sadly I know of several organs that are about 50 years old and already start falling apart... no wonder if you only heat the building up on Sundays and the rest of the week it's cold and wet...

No, they all have their place. I've had the pleasure to meet someone that learn something of what it takes to maintain a pipe organ like this, and that can't be glossed over. Hopefully, it won't be a skill that disappears.

Omigod! I love the sound of a pipe organ. In LA if you wish to hear amazing music on pipe organ go hear Bill Neck at St. Cyril s of jerusalem in Sherman oaks. Just 2 blocks west of 405 frway

As a kid, I used to help my Dad keep our 18th century organ in tune... always a week long thrash before Easter... always worth the effort. This instrument has an amazing voice. I think this is going into the bucket-list.

That keyboard dates from the Late Medieval Period? Amazing. Coming from a part of the world where anything over 125 years old is well nigh ancient, I am awestruck.

I wonder what the congregation 600 years ago would have thought as they gathered to worship and hear such an incredible instrument. No televisions, no radios, no instant music. Maybe some had some kind of instrument of their own, but this must have been incredible then, and truly incredible now--it still stands out as exceptional even in our day. A true wonder and delight. The music was beautiful.❤

For such an ancient instrument, its sound is incredible. It's different in a way that I can't put my finger on, but the way Diane was selecting the stops obviously had an effect.

I have to agree with you Londonofgey, I had about thirty seconds of chills when I started hearing the first phrase of the music!!! It's almost incomprehensible to know how much history has passed since this organ was crafted with such artistic hands. I don't care that the music that she played wasn't exactly ancient... the effect is still the same.

Sir(s): If I may, Upon this Gladsome Date and at this Gladsome Time, state here and attest to the full how this setting prepares Us for the Mind of Christ. Furthermore, from the Book of Psalms, I reflect upon the Joy of Life and Invocation for Heavenly Aid in that, namely, "Do the Dead Praise Thee? And "Do those Exult Thy Name Who go down into the Dust?" The answer is one of amazement and wonder, for truly it was believed that they do not in the wondrous ways of People in this Present World.

Despite its age I can't help but notice how much technical innovation it seems to have. The keyboard looks like it came from a much later Italian virginals. I can also imagine two of your crew in back pumping the bellows as you play. (I know it's electric now.)

Sounds like many an organ in ancient churches in Italy. Italian organists even play in the slower, careful style as demonstrated here because of the tiny keyboard & manual stops.

She knows it, no challenge there, but it's a far greater matter of the greater issue of giving glory to God that is the true function of an instrument of worship of that one true God in a place of worship of that one true God. I realize that likely much of Bish's focus is on appeasing the at least superficially Christian audience she gained as Coral Ridge Pres's organist vs actual heartfelt Christian worship, but that eternal principle remains nonetheless. Soli Deo Gloria!
