This video shows my technique to replace the fuel pump on a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4WD by cutting the floor beneath the rear driver side seat to access the pump rather than dropping the fuel tank.
Required tools include 18mm socket to remove seat nuts, 10mm socket to remove nuts on fuel pump cover, grinder to cut floor pan, large screwdriver, hammer, drill with 1/8" bit if riveting, 1/8" rivets, pop rivet tool, aluminized tape.
I used a piece of cardboard cut to 5" wide to hold against teh seat bolts on each side to deteremine wher to cut the floor to access the pump. I wante to make as small ahole as possible and to not cutinto the riveted support beam near the center of the vehicle.
Thank you to the youtuber who made the video with the pink string, showing how he cut 5" in from two sides and 3" in from the other two.
Five years ago I did this job on a 2004 Tahoe and it took me a day and a half and lots of swearing to drop the tank and do everything else required without a lift.
The job shown here took me an hour and a half, including time to film. I suspect I can do the job in 40 minutes next time.
Thank you for watching.
