Oldsmobile Theme 1985 (Complimentary Tape) 

who else is here from the Doug DeMuro review of the Olds Custom Cruiser station wagon? LOL!

Every time the family would go on a long road trip in the Olds, us kids would force my parents to put in this tape and listen to this silly song as a way to "get the trip started." I still know every word.

I'd give anything to see a picture of the musicians/vocalists responsible for this, maybe a live performance even

I was about 6 years old when my dad got a new Oldsmobile, and I remember the whole family packing into it (6 of us) and going for a relaxing ride around the lakes, listening to this tape. 34 years later I still have this song memorized!

I was 10 when we began hearing this jingle all over the TV airwaves and no one ever thought anything about it. It was just business as usual. So weird to think how no one in those days realized how decades later we’d be listening to this, marveling at the nostalgic quality, and the American optimism this song projects. America was just America in those days, and Oldsmobile was just part of the fabric that made us who we were. Shame we all took it for granted. I’d give anything to go back to 1984 now.

We just purchased a 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado that has been garaged since 2007. It has this original Complimentary Tape Cartridge still in the glovebox. Oh, car runs nicely too!

My grandfather worked as a mechanic at an Olds dealer. He had a ton of these tapes laying around. I'd use these to record songs on the radio and just put tape over the open holes on the top. Classic song!

I still have this cassette that came with my 1982 Olsdmobie Cutlass Supreme. And yes it has outlived Oldsmobile in general and mine as well. What memories the theme brings. I bought the car in 1985 or 1986 used and in excellent condition and the cassette tape was in the glove compartment still sealed in cellophane wrap.

Gosh, this brings back childhood memories... Cutlass Sierra wagon with the wooden panels and the "wayback seat"...

I've always felt badly for the people who sang in these corporate jingles. I imagine they dreamed about a singing career, showbiz, having a hit album, groupies, but wound up singing about crapy cars and corporate virtues. How sad.

I work at a dealership and found this cassette in an old Oldsmobile traded in. I never knew this existed and it's amazing!

I had an '85 Calais Supreme, I had bought new, so I got this tape. I think I wore it out just by playing this song as I drove around in my new car. But another great song on this tape was "Coming in and Out of Your Life" by Barbra Streisand.

Brings back memories of the Cutlass cruiser we had when I was little. The car was donated to the fire department to use for the cut up demonstrations for the jaws of life or training. There is a special feel in an Oldsmobile indeed. Might try to get one for a 1st car. The olds we had rotted up from road salt here in Buffalo Ny. I miss that car

That's right! This used to be a thing. I remember when we bought a Ford Explorer in the early 90's it came with a demo tape that included, of all things, the Back To The Future overture.

This tape came with my parents' 85 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. It had auto reverse cassette player, and we listened the heck out of this tape on a road trip to Canada. We kept that car for 15 years and almost 300K miles.

my parents had a special feel, in the 1987 Oldsmobile cutlass ciera, with this tape included, as the cars standard stereo system was the cassette player, and a stereo am and fm radio. my dad looping, the cassette tape... singing off key, the you get a special feel in an Oldsmobile, with the windows down, and the stereo Blaring! 😂 I just can imagine the looks from the other drivers, as an dying cow sang, and the song was about their car. knowing my dad... smiling, and waving , as the song looped, to the beginning, started singing ... Ah yes. Family trips in an Oldsmobile. We went to the maritimes in the 80's around Cape Breton Island. Picked up some bad gas and had to stop at a mechanic to drain the tank in the middle of nowhere. The guy could not stop saying "OK bud", "How's it going bud" ... "Have a good day bud."

I owned a 1981 Ninety Eight Coupe when I was 20. My favorite and was very reliable.

1984, I WAS 10 YEARS OLD. MY PARENTS PURCHASED A NEW OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CIERA. The car was fully loaded. Even had the digital display and opera lights. I thought it was the coolest thing around! We lived in Arvada, just west of Denver. A few weeks later, we (Dad, mom, my sister and I) hit the road for a vacation to visit relatives in North Carolina. We went east to St. Louis, went up in the Gateway Arch, then down to Panama City, Florida to visit my mom's high school friends. The beaches there were white as sugar, the water a shimmering turquoise. Back up north to Asheboro and Ramseuer, NC.

Grew up in a 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88. Grey exterior and grey cloth interior.

Found this cassette recently thanks to our Oldsmobile Cutlass. Unfortunately, the car doesn't run anymore and this cassette was heavily warped from being left in a glove compartment for over 30 years, so it's nice to know what it sounded like. Thanks for uploading!

My mother's first car was a 1985 Cutlass Supreme and she had the complimentary cassette. She'd play it at a stop light with the radio cranked up and the windows down

Actually, this Oldsmobile jingle is from 1983.

I imagine all the singers despairing how their careers went wrong that they ended up doing this.

Loved this jingle and this was a time we're oldsmoblile quality materials were more than the sum of parts put into these cars, they didn't take a back seat even to the caddilac division, there was pride and prestige to ownership, and everybody knew these were great cars, if you don't believe me look at the cutlass sales numbers from 77 up they were outselling chevrolet most of the time.

Interesting that no one has mentioned that this compact cassette is called tape cartridge. I guess Oldsmobile did not want to puzzle its down-to-earth clientele with a weird-sounding word ;-)

Say what you want, but Oldsmobile made some fine cars made with superior quality. In fact, Oldsmobile was rated #2 of GM brands in overall quality and customer satisfaction (Saturn was #1, and both were ahead of Cadillac), and after having Oldsmobile and Buick in my family (Dad worked for Buick Motor Division in Flint, Michigan, in the 1960s), their quality was excellent. What’s funny is that after Saturn came on the scene, quality of Chevrolet and Pontiac improved (they were toward the bottom). Hated to see Oldsmobile go...

How much power did those cassette head units have. My buddy had a 93 cutlass and the speakers were just regular paper cones with bonus whizzer lol

Garbage car brand. They’re as garbage as AMC was 😆 At least AMC had one redeemable car the Javelin. The rest are ugly, underpowered and sold pretty terribly IIRC lol. Kinda like Oldsmobile lmao. Edit: *ACTUALLY* Oldsmobile had *ONE* good car and it was a concept. The Aerotech from the late 80s cool ass car tbh. Edit 2: The Tornado I mean Toronado was pretty cool just woefully underpowered and weight more than the earth (like almost every car in the late 60s and early 70s).
