In this video I’m aiming to answer the question: “What panel type should I buy?” I’m going to break down the main design differences briefly, then jump into the feature differences - things like the response times and refresh rates, alongside the viewing experience with things like viewing angles and brightness, plus lifespan, cost and availability. Let’s go!

An outstanding explanation and stunning visuals to boot, thank you sir! I will go ahead with a VA panel, as planned... non-gamer, but would like high contrast and deep blacks for occasional movie watching, but don't want to waste/burn in an OLED with day-to-day monitor use.

I tried going with a VA panel after only using IPS, and I had to return it because it was so washed out and dim looking, even on max brightness and calibration. VA also has a wash out from side viewing angles. If you want bright and beautiful colors from no matter what angle you are viewing the monitor from, go IPS IMO. The VA panel I returned was the new Acer Predator 27’ 2560x1440 240Hz .5ms response time for $299.99 from microcenter. The specs sound amazing, but the monitor looked like it had a dimming filter on it next to my other two monitors. I ended up going with a 32’ Asus Tuf 2560x1440 170Hz IPS panel instead and I absolutely love it. At first I was worried it would be too big for gaming since I always have used 27’ but I can honestly say 32’ is an amazing upgrade and will not hinder your view at all

Casual gamer here, still running on a very old 60fps, but I love the sound of the motion clarity and response time of 144 to 240hz IPS, and have heard very bad things about how well VAs handle that, so don't think i'm going for a VA. Which is a shame because i really want a 42 inch, and none of that ultra-widescreen peering through a letterbox nonsense! And they don't seem to make them in IPS :(

oled is also a viable option too, lower response time than TN and has the color gamut and viewing angles better than IPS
@michaelthompson9798
@michaelthompson9798 2 года назад
I’ve grown up using Twisted Neumatic (TN), In-Plane-Switching (IPS) and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technologies and for good value monitors you can get cheap IPS monitors which are terrific for everything and OLED, despite it’s expensive outlay and burn-in has awesome colour reproduction and HDR like no other and definitely way better than IPS. Definitely avoid TN at all costs due to poor colour reproduction, worse lighting and clarity as well as bad viewing angles.

Get IPS and just don't play in the dark. You can even out the lacking contrast ratio by just using the monitor in a well lit room, but you can't do anything about the smearing of VA panels.

I have a va panel, is there any settings that you know some monitors have that could reduce the ghosting, response time? Also when gaming i use hdmi 2.0 I think that transmits 18gbps of bandwidth, anyway, if I reduce the bandwidth usage for example using a lower resolution, will that reduce my input delay or make my game run any smoother?
@IINareik
@IINareik 2 года назад
Monitor overdrive, lower resolution does reduce input latency I think? Display port should be recommended for pc gaming though
@doc_bucket1982
@doc_bucket1982 2 года назад
I simply turn on FreeSync, which works as G-sync compatible with an Nvidia card (you will need DP). It says it synchronizes Hz with FPS without increasing input lag. Ghosting happens at low FPS. The only solution for my VA panel I know is playing at 120+ FPS. 60 is literally unbearable, no help. The same applies to playing without FreeSync: the result is dreadful, no matter how many FPS I push. It looks like VA panel without FreeSync is a bad luck. I do not believe resolution has any influence on input lag. Lower resolution can lower latency, i.e. how long it takes for hardware to produce a frame (the fewer pixels, the less work) after it receives information, but that's a matter of CPU and GPU I assume. You can help reduce latency in Nvidia 3D settings (the main control panel).
@RelaxxGamez
@RelaxxGamez 2 года назад
@@doc_bucket1982 thanks for both of your comments but I play on Xbox series x 120fps and have to use a hdmi cable, I feel I keep switching between adaptive sync on and off and I feel like when it’s off the ghosting and response time is a little better, and I thought lower the bandwidth usage will make me get lower input delay, for example my monitor uses ycc 4:4:4 but i can lower it to ycc 4:2:2 which lowers the bandwidth usage a little bit but I can’t tell if it has made a difference ( giving me lower input delay )
@doc_bucket1982
@doc_bucket1982 2 года назад
@@RelaxxGamez Oh, I see. Well, there is a latency and there is an input lag. The latter tells you how quickly the monitor responds to your controls, the first is about producing a frame. You can improve input lag by plugging in the controller or changing some monitor settings (e.g. from "normal" to "game level"). Latency is more complex and relates to transmission of the amount of data, which is also dependent on the bandwidth or how quickly the hardware can produce a frame. Since ghosting disappears with higher FPS, less data, which HDMI 2.0 should handle better, i. e. faster, might help. So, yes, I suggest lowering both the color ratio and resolution, and see if you get more stable and higher FPS. If you already get stable 120 FPS all the time, then I honestly say I do not know what to do. :)

Do OLED panels manage 125hz mice polling better than LCD? Less stutter because of pixel response time?
@alkaholic4848
@alkaholic4848 Год назад
Not really. Monitor is output from the computer, mouse is input to the computer. Monitor speed/response is about how fast your brain can perceive movement and coordinate it. Mouse speed how fast it feeds back the movements of your hand. Between the two there is a delay as the light from the monitor hits the back of your eyes, turned into electrical signals by the nerves there, to be processed by your occipital lobe (vision), then processed by your motor cortexes, through your nervous system, then to your muscles and ligaments (moving your arm and clicking). So there's no synchronicity between the two speeds. If you're a competitive gamer you want a very fast and responsive monitor. But there's no direct correlation to your mouse speed.
