“Today it is exactly one hundred-ten years since the first woman won the Nobel Prize in Literature - Selma Lagerlöf. I bow low to her across time, and to all the other women, all the female creators who boldly exceeded the limiting roles society imposed on them, and had the courage to tell their story to the world loud and clear. I can feel them standing behind me.
We really have won the Nobel!”
Watch the banquet speech by Olga Tokarczuk, awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature.

I can not express how much I admire Olga Tokarczuk. When I read my first book that she wrote my mind just blown. It seemed to be out of this world to have a chance to look into reality created by such a sensitive individual. Sensitive to the people, to the emotions and to the world around. There is no doubt that Olga Tokarczuk deserve a Nobel Prize. If not for her genius then for the change she makes in peoples minds and hearts. I am honored to say that reading her books had an impact on the way I look on the world.

It's very good that she mentioned the translators and thanked them because as we see she's not great in English, without them many could't have the opportunity to read and hear her message. Congrats Olga

You clearly misunderstand why she thanked the translators. Name at least one writer who translates its books into foreign languages.

This is so sad that there are so many people in Poland who think that this amazing woman acts against the nation.. we have only 5 Nobel Pirize winners in literature in this country, and instead of being happy and glad of that, we are furious..

I say that rather rarely but in days like these I am proud to be a Pole. We have the best artists and scientists. I am also sad that other Poles try hard to bring Olga Tokarczuk down. You must understand that being kind, sensitive, empathetic person is not something to be ashamed of. She cares about animals, children and people. Yes, she criticizes society of Poland as well, because lots of things that are happening right now in our country are getting out of hand. We even cannot behave nicely towards eachother especially when our world views seem to differ, we rarely smile to people on the streets. Is that a serious reason to hate on her? Really? A woman from Poland gets Noble Prize, have huge, amazing, mesmerizing, patriotic Noble Speech and you as a Pole have a disgust and doubt her craftsmanship and patriotism? You are no human but a simple trash.

It's a prize decided by less than 10 people. They are in turn affected by what they have read before in their life. I don't see why they should be ashamed when it comes to that. With that said, who are the "few much better writers" according to you?
