Oligonucleotides and gene expression 

The concept of using synthetic oligonucleotides to control the expression of genes that impact disease has been pursued for many decades because the universal model for gene expression suggests that synthetic compounds that bind to RNA should modulate protein production and in turn affect protein expression.
