As they are land rich cash poor it does happen to a lot of farms To really appreciate the fantastic story behind Oliver Anthony ( not actually his real name but done as a tribute to his grandfather who was really Oliver Anthony. His real name is Christopher Anthony Lundsford ) . he was a high school drop out, later got his GED ( grade school equivalency degree) Anyway for what I believe was 5 years he worked 6 days a week 12 hours a night third shift in a paper mill in North Carolina for $12.50/ hour which was his highest wage until he had a workplace accident in 2013 and had to spend 6 months out of work at 60% of his salary which forced him to move back home to Farmville ,Virginia at which point he spent from 2014- a few weeks ago working in outside sales traving around North Carolina and Virginia listening to hundreds if not thousands of stories from struggling workers... It's a poor region since coal mines shut down. Roughy theee years ago he purchased 90 acres of land in Farmville for $97,000 of which up until a few weeks ago owed $60,000. He bought a 27 ft camper off of Craigslist for $750 and lives there with his dogs. Anyway at some point likely during the my shaRONA time period that you alluded to Chris aka Oliver Anthony started self medicating with drugs and alcohol, about two years ago he taught himself to play guitar and started writing songs to deal with his mental health, he reached the rock bottom of his addiction this year ( see his song "I've got to get sober" ) anyway the story goes that he dropped to his knees one night although he was agnostic and begged for God's help in getting sober and to help him to achieve his small dream of getting some livestock for his farm.In return he offered his talents to be used as a vessel for God's message. A few days later one of his roughly 2000 RU-vid subscribers sent his half finished short of Rich Men North of Richmond to radioWV who drove 4-5 hours to Oliver Anthony's property and recorded his first three videos "Rich Men North of Richmond", "Virginia" and the recently released "I Want to Go Home" on his property it wss Oliver's fordt time ever using a microphone ( and Oliver Anthony only completed Rich Men North of Richmond the day before filming the video, he was also 30 days sober when he recorded the video) RadioWV released the video and it as you know took off like crazy. Oliver Anthony only has three professionally recorded songs and yet still has 16 songs in the top 100 on iTunes most of which were recorded on his cellphone. He debuted at #1 on the Billboard top 100.He is the first artist ever to do that, think about that not the Beatles, not Elvis, not Madonna or Michael Jackson snd this was done solely through the grass roots support with no Payola. Is God working through Oliver Anthony, I obviously don't know but suspect that is the case.. I know that Chris aka Oliver Anthony believes that he is and opens every performance with a Bible verse reading so appears to be holding up his end of the bargain. I do know that he came out of nowhere preaching exactly the right messages at exactly the right time and became the voice for the silent majority of the working class. Incredibly he has maintained his humble spirit through out this insanity. I have to admit I am enjoying the ride.
