I was lucky enough to drive George from time to time in the late 1980's. One of my favorite times he got in the limo with a little Martin ukulele. I asked him about it and he said it was the most versatile instruments he owned. Then he played Here Comes the Sun, just for me. I still cry. My favorite George story revolved around his father-in-law's concern about a new dry cleaner going in across the street from his in Hawthorne, CA. When the new shop was finished and ready to open George handed the keys to Zeke, Olivia's father. That's the kind of man he was.
I'm glad George had friar park after years and years of being hounded he deserved a quiet peaceful place..and George was lucky to have Olivia..she's a treasure.
If only everyone could have George's frame of mind, especially in today's world. Olivia and George were blessed to have each other. RIP George...you and your music will never be forgotten.....
A love like theirs is very rare to find. They deeply loved and admired each other in ways some of us may never experience or feel. How they saved each others lives too. To share two more years together. They have stayed married until the very end if he would have lived. Unlike most celebrity marriages that don't last more than 20 years. Their love story is truly inspiring and healthy. Faithful and beautiful. She never moved on because in her mind he was the true love of her life. And she was his.
After being stabbed in the chest 8 times, George still managed to get to his feet and take the burglar down as the burglar tried to get back at Olivia.
I'm so glad he found her. She seems so real. So down to earth, soft spoken. A beautiful soul inside and out and truly meant for George. You could see how much he really loved her. And she loved him deeply and I believe if he was still here. Him and Olivia would still be married. 🥲 Such a beautiful couple. A gorgeous woman Olivia is.
@@acookslaNo, you're right. But ladies of this generation were beautifully well-mannered and socially respectful with humility and kindness of spirit. My friends and I are of the same age and I like to think we are similar in demeanour. We just cannot understand the younger women these days with their big lips, bottoms and boobs, showing off loudly and their appalling "mememe" egos. They are obnoxious in restaurants, bars and pubs. They go out to "get drunk". Their chatter is banal and shallow and they seem to think this will attract the right sort of partner - eek! I wonder if we would have behaved in that way had we been born later and I've come to the conclusion that our generation was just so bloody lucky to have had the best years.
@@Haberdashery22 I am from the same generation as Olivia and don’t like to call myself a lady. A woman is more the correct term. I stand up for myself, know my value and can talk to anyone about anything. Olivia is a real woman as well. Not s saint and I wouldn’t refer to her as a lady but a good person with flaws and faults like the rest of us. The women today- some of them aware as you describe, quite lost, but I have met plenty of cool, smart, down to earth women that are young and not as self involved as you describe. Everyone always thinks they had the best generation.
Or you don't talk about it at all. Or sometimes you don't even admit it. Not everybody can understand true love and it is tumultuous and painful. Love is the most powerful and probably the most misunderstood emotion.
That's ok - maybe it was true for the someone who told you. I don't think it's a good generalisation though: I've known too many exceptions. It also logically implies that if you talk about someone a lot you don't really love them (if P then Q, not Q so not P). And I wouldn't want to lumber chatty people with that :-)
I like Olivia, she has never sought the limelight, and she & George raised a wonderful son, Dhani. Dhani looks even more like his father as he gets older & Dhani has said he doesn’t mind being told he is a lot like his dad because he says his father was a great man.
My 10 year old nephew lost his battle with cancer as well, and "Here comes the Sun" was played at his funeral. Thank you George for your example and your legacy of beautiful music. Olivia you are a beautiful person, George was lucky to have you :)
good luck lost almost all my family to Cancer and sadly the last one was a smoker i keep hoping that is one thing people will take from George's dying that maybe they will give it up it isn't fun watching some one die of it I know
His lord was krishna. a false god of the hindu religion. not the one and only true God. YHVH. Revealed in the earth Yeshua or Jesus Christ. therefore GH was not saved by Jesus death, burial, and resurrection. To wit, GH is in hell.
If you look at all the solo Beatles albums, side by side, George's come out to be the most consistently well-produced and of high quality. Even those albums that didn't sell well sound great (i.e., Gone Troppo, Dark Hoarse).
George’s “All Things Must Pass” album outsold all the other ex-Beatles solo albums. That album had 30 songs in it. It was all the songs George wrote but couldn’t get into a Beatles album.
We need more musicians with A More Down To Earth, & With A More Sophisticated , but Lesser Prejudice Attitude. ' Strawberry Field's Forever '. # Be Nicer To Each Other # ! " Be Loved & Blessed Always Olivia Harrison 💖
The more I see and hear of Olivia the more my admiration of her grows. George in my could not not have found a better woman to share his life with. A real down to earth type of person who seems and acts humble. In other words my kind of people and one of the few notable people I would like to have a conversation with.
tommysfather why do you admire her? She is awful to the fans! She goes out of her way to lie and extract as much as possible from the most loyal of fans!
@@davidlamb7524 she does everything she can do extract as much money from Georges most loyal fans. It’s sickening. The soundtrack to the Scorsese film was a cd with 28 minutes of music on a disc capable of 80 minutes. And they were demos. They cost nothing to record. Never mind her pricing. Masters recorded 50 years ago. Again, that have no recording costs attached: recordings that have been profited on for decades. Millions made, and the re issues by George, are always the most expensive records in the store. And that’s just the beginning.
I've had an interaction with her and she is just the sweetest thing. She has given fans all kinds of demos they want, and as all beatles related things they have a fair price bc it's the best music there is. She is taking care of his legacy immaculately
I simply love the witty answer from Olivia when she said "Didn't he get lucky". She quickly smelled Katie's subtle(perhaps not intended)insulting question about her being the lucky one for basically "hitting the jackpot" when she met George.
edwin11373 I don’t think she was trying to be rude, but I can see why you’d think that. I mean I would probably say that to her too but I wouldn’t mean it in a bad way.
"Debbie Metke" I find Geroge's "Spiritual side" rather perplexing and strange and even unnerving. He practically believed that the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was god and the "Yogi" was some brain washed, yokel idiot who did things like "secretly" fondle women who were his followers, and the rest of the Beatles were persuaded by George to try going to some religious retreat and meditate and listen to the Yogi but all the other Beatles saw that the Yogi was a phony and John Lennon himself said that when the Beatles (except George) wanted to leave the Yogi's retreat the Yogi tried to talk them out of it and asked them why they would want to leave, and Joan said to the Yogi "If you are so mystic, then you should know why." and John later on reportedly said in an interview that the Yogi was essentially angry because he lost good publicity when 3 of the Beatles left his compound. George hung on to his faith in the Yogi but eventually began to doubt him too. But George got very deep into chanting and the Hare Krishna movement and the Hare Krishnas are one of the most dangerous cults there are and they were one of the cults that were responsible for a lot of young people having to be reprogrammed back in the 1970s. George was very mixed up about spirituality and religion. Religion is about a lot of rituals, preaching, "converting people" and about "bringing more people into the group." You don't need to belong to a group of dumb misguided people. Spirituality happens of itself to you . No one can "give" it to you if you don't have it. No one can "take " it from you if you do have it. You can't really choose it. A lot of people join religions thinking that priests, or preachers or Yogis, or Guru's are going to lead them to "salvation." It is all phony.
L Martinez Very perceptive and wise points you are making about religion and personal integrity in front of (religiously dressed) swindlers, manipulators and conmen - thank you. (I don’t know about the details of the fakeness of Maharishi, though, other than in the general sense they are all faking ”knowing something”.
@@susanhowell1673 George's words at the end of Anthology 1995. "They gave their money, and they gave their screams. But the Beatles kind of gave their nervous systems."

PaulLonden the old guys are doing what they love and have been for nearly 60 years and travelled the world and made a good living. If you can handle the myth of stardom and keep grounded in your private life you can go til you drop George would still be playing if he Hadn’t got sick. He was a survivor others are not as good at coping with fame Brian Jones Syd Barret Peter Greene Janis Joplin. I imagine keeping perspective keeps you in line. Keith always says he’s just a normal guy (somewhat) til he gets on the khole pencil the plank and the stage. Then you become what they want. You owe it to the fans but I think they owe it to themselves to turn it off and live life.
Greg Mccurry --what? Can't help it - been doing my best just to watch RU-vid and avoid getting into debates with nincompoops like you. I hate when you say comments posted like this just gonna send you what the fuck? Why do you even bother comment, When George has found his soulmate, somebody to any guy would be fortunate to have someone as dedicated to her husband as she was. It was very gracious of her to share some of the memories of a great musician and it's integral part of the greatest rock 'n' roll band ever! But I guess consider the source.
I am glad also, that George had Hyde Park. I know his best friend was Eric Clapton. He had a good relationship with Paul and John and Ringo. But Eric Clapton was just that special friend. George Harrison may be gone. But his music lives on forever. He left a legacy of beautiful music. George Harrison was one of my favorite guitarist. Listening to Abbey Road. Here comes the Sun. The song, some thing and while my guitar gently weeps, all of these songs, inspired me to play guitar. I’m 70 years old and I still play guitar and love it very much. I must say thank you George for inspiring me the way you did. You’re not only my favorite Beatle. But you’re one of my favorite guitarist. I think you Olivia for making this video.👍🏼👍🏼😎🎸❤️
George was always my favorite Beatle ! and his son looks alot like him. God Bless you, George, and I'm so glad you gave your life to God, as your wife says in this video.
I agree. George's sister, Louise put together a tribute band called Liverpool Legends and if you close your eyes, you would swear you were listening to the Beatles. Louise is a witty, lovely woman - her love for her brother is touching. I can imagine that George and Louise shared the same wit and great sense of humor. Dhani looks so much like his Father its uncanny and beautiful. George was so very talented as is Dhani.
Yeah, there’s something that’s not quite right. And it was never revealed by Olivia why she cut off George Harrison’s Sister Louise from the small monthly stipend that reportedly George promised to give her for life. Thought it was strange that George didn’t put it in a will but if he trusted Olivia to carry on with it without anything in writing, that obviously didn’t happen. It’s not like Olivia would miss the money if Louise Harrison would have continued receiving it. She must not have liked her.
Actually many George fans know that Olivia has given millions to charity and that there are a lot of issues with Louise Harrison's story . Their sympathy is with Olivia on this
Best line " George dedicated alot of his life to a good ending and I've no doubt he was successful" . Sweet. Show us the way George, send a song on the wind.
I can see why George fell in love with Olivia....a wonderful woman....not to take anything away from Pattie, a very sweet person also.....but George & Pattie were so young when they got married.....I think Olivia & George were a perfect match
@acooksla yoko was controlling and manipulative. They lived separate lives with other partners. John was happiest with May, who reunited him with friends and family. They were going to record with Paul and Linda the day before Yoko yanked him back with the threat of residency; and the tea he said made him sick.
I was and still am George's biggest fan. I loved him not just for his music-- I loved him for who he was -- a peaceful, loving, spiritual soul who was my favorite musician since I was 4 years old. Thank you so much Olivia for sharing this. What an amazing and brave woman who I would love to meet. You are an inspiration.
He was always my favorite Beatle. He had such a spiritual aura about him even then. The world was lucky to have had him for a short while. Love you, George and my bestie Charlotte did too, to distraction.
I have always loved George. He was so handsome with his beautiful smile and big brown eyes. I fell for him, when I was 12, I am now 67 years old. There were so many sides to him. I always enjoyed his spiritual side. He made such beautiful music. I love and miss you George. Rest In Peace. ❤️🌹❤️
John Deegan , I know they were wild. George was a womanizer, that’s for sure. I had a crush on him since I was 12. He was so damn cute. I know what you’re saying though. Peace! ❤️🌹❤️
This was the most beautiful interview and what a lovely wife he had and son following in his footsteps and looking just like him he was an amazing gifted talented person George Harrison yes and the years later people find out that he was actually one of the best songwriters in guitars in the group The Beatles not taking away anything from Lennon and McCartney who always wrote most of the songs and not taking away from when Ringo wrote songs and started his own band and you know his contribution well established into the Beatles as well seems like Harrison and Ringo Starr George and Ringo were just always in the background kind of and a lot of the attention was put on line in a carne which not taking away anything from them of course linen brilliant man sorely missed started his own band and mixed with McCartney who is very talented and it was you know friends kind of growing up there together and then they entered into a group and then you know on and on and on but because they had already established linen and McCartney and other band they kind of got top billing you know and I'm so glad that Harrison went went off and made his own solo career and Ringo as well absolutely both very talented men and my John and George rest in peace very sad stories I grew up at the Beatles never even dreamed anything like that would ever happen 😥💞💞🙏➕🕊️✌️☮️
It's so cool that George got together with such a normal, down-to-earth sober-minded woman! I think they complemented each other very well. It was also great to learn that George loved 'Stardust' by Hoagy Carmichael, one of my all-time favorites! No wonder he had a great taste.
People may disagree but I don’t think he ever got the credit he deserved when he was with the beatles. My favourite beatle, and Olivia is just lovely about guarding George’s memory ❤️
George’s ex Patty Boyd said that after a Beatles recording session, George would come home furious because John and Paul treated him like a kid brother.
We can all learn so much from George Harrison. Life is to be lived, enjoyed, savored and revered. God is first and foremost, and when it comes time to leave, do so with grace and with no regrets.
Oh please let us not bring up the paradoxes within all religious beliefs it's not even worth debating! And we play the debil's music anyway. And if your main argument is getting personal you've already lost it. And naive? Cynical, debouched, irreverent maybe but be a bit more creative in your insults.
I did not insult George he is my favourite Beatle. And now who is naive if you really think I'm sincere about the devil - did you not notice my spelling? Ok have it your way - of course I took my guitar down to the crossroads. Oh yeagh!
I wasn't even arguing about religion or the devil it's so obviously not worth debating I was joking. As for naive that's not an insult whereas you seem quite happy offering such. Everything I said about George is a recorded fact as for him being naive that partly contributes to his appeal.
Katie couldn't have been better. Kudos to the producer and the entire crew. I learned some things. Thank you Dhani and Olivia. And thank you George. You taught us a long time ago that All Things Must Pass....even You.
What a strong and beautifully devoted woman. George's spiritual influence without doubt influenced her and Dani. George had an incredible soul. Rest in peace George.
Those who grew up with the Beatles may know a lot about Pattie Boyd, but not much about Olivia. Thanks for uploading this interview so that we might get to better know the mother of George's son, who is the spitting image of his Dad! Thanks Olivia for giving us Dhani Harrison!
Thanks, soulfoodie! I am going to have to learn more about her. I started watching the "Concert for George" on the one-year anniversary of his death (video available here on youtube), and she seems amazing to have had a hand in organising such a massive show of love and support for George. And it was good to see Dhani up on the stage, playing his guitar!
And Olivia is right she fell in love with a man a man that loves her and the man fell in love with a woman a woman that loves him she did not fall in love with George Harrison she fell in love with a man that loves her and he fell in love with Olivia a woman that he loves being in love with a man regardless of who he is that's how they had true love she wasn't looking at George Harrison she was looking at a man that she loves and then it so happened to be George Harrison
toastee3 Yes. The interviewer seemed to be encouraging Olivia to say ‘yes, you’re right, I was just a secretary at the record company who got lucky’, and I’m so glad Olivia didn’t go along with that, because clearly that wasn’t the case and they were both lucky to find each other ✨
Olivia is a classy lady, she has never milked the limelight. It is easy to see why she caught George's eye. he got real lucky there. It is easy to understand why someone like George retreated to his back garden especially when the world outside his front door was gawking and wanting a piece of him everywhere he went. That kind of level of celebrity is really a gilded cage.
*@THE QUIET MAN 1958* Yeah......she wouldn't take complete credit for that ofcourse, she's diplomatic and saved some of George's pride. It's enough for her that George knew he owed her.
@John Deegan - George said that he did shout hare krishna in an interview. Why do you feel the need to insult him for getting stabbed multiple times? That's pretty fucking low.
Seem's like George was a real spiritual intellectual who's life will never be forgotton. Thank you George for everything you did! Including "Your Last Testamony" I believe it all!
George was a great, kind spirit and will be playing songs to the angels now and forever more. His last few years must have been incredibly tough, with the break-in and his illness, and yet he still showed amazing strength.
Olivia is a. Class Act & I’m sure they were very happy. Dhannie looks so much like his father & I’ve seen him on videos with George’s friends! I’m glad they’re moving on with their lives 🎶❤️
As much as I love Geirge , people got no time to sit around and think where am I going or why am I here . Most people have to work and don't have the time , money or a wonderful house with large gardens to live within the grounds . George was blessed with incredible talent and had money to live the way he wanted .
djjerome and their spite her cheery look, that's only on the outside, but I feel that she goes beyond that. As a survivor herself and after losing her husband the colon cancer, and I am in a very high risk, I believe that her words and questions were from the heart.
From Chile...A special greeting to a "three times Lady...our Mrs. Olivia Harrison and also, to her wonderful son Dhani... may God Bless them for ever hopping that, dime day, they could come to Chile, to give us, a
I have tears in my eyes, so sad..George certainly, definitely got his wings, he is truly an Angel now....He was such a good soul and I'm happy he found his soulmate in Olivia...R.I.P sweet George.
Katie Couric is the epitome of "the press" that George didn't care much for, though we might expand that phrase to "the media". Nevertheless, there were interesting bits in this interview.
I have not read Patty Boyd's book yet You Look Wonderful Tonight. I definitely want to read her book so George repeated the same patterns he had with Patty with Olivia. George was indeed blessed to have met and married 2 extraordinarily beautiful talented young women that accepted George as he was. My hat off to these lovely young women being married to very successful musician in the hottest group of their era. Olivia was married to George for 27 years they had a son together and she was the anchor George needed. He was blessed to have her and their son.
beautiful video. we sat a couple of seats away from George and Olivia at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix in the mid 70's. They were so in love......he was friends with Jimmy Hunt.
I have the deepest respect for Olivia Arias Harrison! She, like George Harrison, possesses a laconic personality. When she speaks, Olivia says something perceptive. She doesn't waste words! Besides her beauty, I'm sure that is another trait that attracted George to her. Olivia is also a very strong woman and I admire her bravery during the insane attack on her husband. Myself being of Mexican descent, I'm especially proud of her! Raul.🙂
Bravo George! A great, unique artist who initially contributed to the Beatles sound and later went on to explore and produce his own music, totally distinct again in its sound. And a very accomplished musician. This was an insightful interview with Olivia. His son has that same, calm approach and character that is so identifiable with his father.
I am a avid fan of George harrizon since 1964 i am a vocalist guitarist .i like george smiling face and guitar wizard .i used play While my guitar gently weeps Bangladesh here comes the sun at 71 very THANKFUL TO MY SWEET LORD JESUS OF NAZARETH OUR SAVIOUR STILL ALIVE. 2022
George was always my favorite Beatle his sense of humor was unbelievable I laughed so hard when he was talking about the metal award he received from the qween .......
I adore, love, admire George with every molecule of my being . I know his life was devoted to conscientious. What a beautiful example her has been for me.
Because of all he loved about life in song, that is what makes him a saint always in my heart. And I'm forever grateful. Love Always . Elaine Bernacchi-Mich.
Wonderful interview, thanks Olivia/Katie, was good to know George was happy with his life considering all the obstacles he faced, his music will live on forever - "Rest In Peace" George and thank you for the wonderful years of music .
