ONJ, I Honestly love you. I remembered this back in the 80s, and I still crave for music like this. Music like this isn't made much anymore. I love this when I had a crush on a girl, unfortunately, I was a girl back then. This brings so many fond memories of my past experiences being in love with females and males.
I'm a tough rock chick who loves Olivia. Incredible, magical voice. Near the end of the original recording, when it sounds like she's fighting back tears---that gets me every time.
I have seen her twice in concert recently and it struck me: this is what REAL talent sounds like, she was a songbird and such a great personality. Why aren't there more stars like this? Five stars Olivia!

This is one of those tunes where people seem to ignore the lyrics, especially the last verse. It is indeed a love song, but it's one of hopeless love, almost certainly between people who are already married to another. "Maybe if we both were born in another place and time this moment might be ending in a kiss, but there you are with yours and here I am with mine, so I guess we'll be leaving it at this." Great, great tune.

When I was in my 20's I had such a crush on Olivia that I was in Love with that beautiful face and that beautiful voice. I went to the movies 7 nights in a row to see Grease. I have followed her live throughout the years. A beautiful person inside and out. (But she married a doctor and broke my heart...LOL)

@TexasJim1956 We use to talk among ourselves in the 1970's and 80's as to what would happen when the super groups and landmark singers were replaced. Now we know! A lower mediocre standard has replaced it. No one can dispute that the music of 30 years ago was superior to anything today. The live version of this song is beautiful. This music represented the very best that could be achieved in the music industry and this gem of a woman will most likely never be rivaled.

Olivia sang that song to John Travolta... No one sings a song like that with such pain and passion unless it comes from the depths of love in the soul. She was with her partner and he was with his so they chose not to be together. They fell in love on the set of Grease, their chemistry was off the scales.... Travolta encouraged the studio to hire Olivia for Grease because he had admired her for years. Ever notice how alike his wife and Olivia looked, and how alike Olivia husband and John did? Both these stars knew they were kindred spirits, but it wasn't to be in this lifetime. It takes something special, authentic and true to be able to consistently sing that song as though it's the first time, and you can feel the intense love eminating from her. I think she even had a tear on one of her performances. Such a classy graceful lady, and one of God's truely sweet angels. Both Olivia and John had a very special bond, but they were respectful to their respective partners and missed out on the love of a lifetime. The best part about music is you don't have to be an entertainer to be a singer but she had both anyway which makes her a very special person. I recently thought of this song because of the loss of a very dear and close friend. May he continue to find peace and love where ever he may be.

You're right. I guess i was caught up in the purity of the lyrics and the sincerity in Olivia's voice. The more I hear the lyrics, it makes sense. "we both know i got somewhere else to go" and also "here you are with yours and here I am with mine". Thank you for pointing that out to me. It is definitely more then a crush but at the same time, it is a love she knows she can never have.
