Olivia Newton-John celebrates the opening of her unique Australian-themed boutique, Koala Blue, on trendy Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles in 1983. Newton-John, an internationally recognized Grammy-winning British-Australian singer-songwriter and movie actress, was widely known for her starring role in 1978 movie “Grease” with John Travolta. In a brief interview, Newton-John tells why she started the business venture and is seen making milkshakes with her friend and business partner, Pat Farrar. Includes a clip of the two young singers performing together in 1968. There were eventually over sixty Koala Blue boutiques worldwide, but stores closed in 1992 due to a prolonged economic recession. I loved this store when it was at the Glendale Galleria.... 1980s I loved it. At the time, nearly 1/4 of my clothes (dresses, skirts) were from there... I especially loved the white blouses with the touches of Olivia Newton-John.

RIP, dear sweet, beautiful and brave Olivia, you are a shining light that brought such joy to the world. I used to be a member of American Ballet Theatre and we used to appear sometimes twice a year in Los Angeles. After shopping at Fred Segal's, my fave go to, I'd pop into Koala Blue afterwards for an Aussie milkshake, there was a name for it but I can't recall, except I remember it being blueberry flavored? Nonetheless, those were fun/greatest times for me.

I went to the store once on Melrose Ave. Maybe she opened more stores in the Los Angeles area. I went there in the 80s so long ago.

Lovely shop but I can see why it didn’t succeed. Americans didn’t want runny milkshakes and those style clothes. But I did buy a basic T-shirt there.

Great clip 👍🏻, such memories there at the flagship store on Melrose when I visited at 15. Had a “lime spider” milkshake, meat pie and slice of pavlova with my mom. Remember clearly mom pointing out a blouse set hung on a rack at the register labeled “For Olivia” ❤️. We took our t-shirts and gift items to the register and I was a happy teen. 🇦🇺🫶🏻 thanks, Crew Guy.
