I lived in Olney from 1958 - 1961 (age 4 - 7) at 17821 Howe Drive. The little brick house at the corner of Howe and Queen Mary Drive. Started school at Olney Elementary, just beyond the kitchen window. Olney was still small and rural then, but building fast. Happy memories.
Thanks for putting many of my old photos of Olney in this video. Most were taken while I was Regional Editor for the Courier Newspapers. You did a good job on your selections and music. Thank you. Roger Lamborne, Winchester Va,
I grew up in Olney and came back after living elsewhere for 13 years. My family first moved here in 1985 and I am a proud graduate of Sherwood HS. It was great growing up here and as an adult, I live it even more. It's definitely changed but it's still gone to me.
Thanks for posting. I'm relatively new to the area having moved here in 1986. We all agree - the o, it's pronounced in Olney like "olive," right? ALL-ney. The new folks are trying to change it to being pronounced like "only" as in "OH-l-ney and there are so many of them now, they think they're right!
I lived in Olney from 1972-82.. some of these old buildings were still standing when we moved there. The Brick grocery on the corner of 108 & Georgia- Hard to believe olney had an underground Nuclear test facility beneath it.. Near the olney theater I heard.. same w/Gaithersburg & Rockville, Frederick etc.
I discovered the Corned Beef King store in Rockville early in 2020. I was impressed by the size & quality of the sandwiches....being from the NY/NJ area where we LOVE a good, fat deli sandwich. Unfortunately, NOW? The sandwiches are half the size they were pre-Covid, but cost the same.
