This is the best reasoned and most logical comment that I have yet seen on this topic. Well said Mark and "Thank you"

Thank you very much for this great video. As commenters already mentioned, a very reasoned and well-spoken comment. Also great to see you in front of the camera!

Thank you for the feedback. It certainly looks, from recent developments and statements, that the "with" JIP is the way Olympus intends to work. As I said, I certainly hope so as it could prove to be a good development.

Hi Mark, thanks for your sharing. I agree with you, I like my olympus cameras and they will still work with me for long time.

Indeed they will. I see from announcements to day that some of the developments I mention in the vlog have been officially revealed. Happy days!

Thanks for your well considered thoughts. I agree; this is not a milestone for Olympus but for the camera industry as a whole. There is nothing in the technologies being offered by any of the top five camera companies that will inoculate them from the current challenges being brought on by smart phones. Real photographers are being replaced by smart phone enthusiasts and the photography market is suffering in a similar way as the sports market, automobile market and other similar hobby markets. People will never read a camera manual unless there is no alternative to getting the pictures they want. No amount of marketing will entice people, with an ever reduced amount of free time, into taking the time needed to understand F numbers, white balance, exposure, and other similar terms to get an acceptable picture. I for one will continue to use my Olympus and Panasonic cameras and enjoy them for the time I have left.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. You make a valid point in regard to the time and learning aspects - hence the popularity of instructional footage on this platform, I would think. Perhaps, as more folk go "instantly easy" with mobile phones, we who enjoy the process of making several decisions prior to capturing the image, will feel less "latest gear guilt" and be able to go about our craft in relative peace and quiet? I wish you many more moments of enjoyment with your cameras and photography.

Indeed it is! As we saw a day ago with the confirmation of my predictions of things to come by Olympus announcing new firmware, lenses and other developments. Thank you for your interest.

The problem is that look you get from other photographers because they know you're camera is company is sick and dying. It's like blood in the water. They smell it. I have a friend who had olympus gear, and had to cover it with tape until he sold it because he was literally spit on and had rocks thrown at him a few days after this announcement here in New York. Literally he can't get work with this camera anymore. He is a good sport about it though, and knows it's only natural for predators to kill one another if they sense sickness, weakness, and disease. He'll probably switch to SONY, when they are done making thier playstation and release a new camera. Or that new Canon R5 which is going to be tremendously overhyped as cutting edge as Canon just barely comes up to industry standards of a GH5 three years ago. But hey it's full frame! And really, that's all that counts.

Thank you for engaging with the content and for posting your comment. Some thoughts... I am well used to "the look". However, it is usually more one of astonishment when the odd camera gear geek sees the results "from that little thing!" than anything else. In my country and experience, as I mentioned in the video, clients (from many countries) have never really cared what equipment (or sensor size) was being used. In my experience, for real day-n day-out imaging professionals (rather than forum 'experts') , the camera is just a tool and, as long as we can satisfy the client brief and requirement, we will (and should be able to) use any camera, at any time, for any assignment and deliver the results briefed. My contacts with new clients always start with "We need (whatever the specific requirement is), can you assist?" and I have never had "First tell us what cameras, lenses and settings you use before we think about using you..." The key in this industry for me, as, I expect, with most, is how professionally you treat a client and how efficient and cost-effective (and that is different to having the cheapest rate) their interaction with you becomes. If you meet their expectations for the results they need, within the budget, they will use you again. And again. So, for as long as my Olympus equipment is churning out the results and generating revenue, I will use it. If the day comes when the OM-Ds (or whatever they are called by "Newco") no longer provide a cost-effective option for my requirements, I will happily be able to use any other brand that does. I so happened to find the OM, E-Series and OM-D tools to be the most considered, useful and handy ones for me. Other people's choices have, and will, differ, but that's what makes this planet so interesting.

A weather sealed Pen F Mark ii with an android OS could save Olympus, the possibilities of combining computational features with inter-changeable lenses in a small form factor could make such a camera the iPhone of the 2020s. Apple nearly died, look where they are now.
@southernshutterbug1436
@southernshutterbug1436 4 года назад
Absolutely! Furthermore, having an OS like Android (or similar open platform) would drive the overall category as it would open up the platform for community development - making the tools adjustable for each specific use case. If they DO make a PenF like that though, you will have to beat me to the order page ;-) My PenF is my "take everywhere when not on assignment" body. However, if there is a next one, I hope they give it some environmental sealing.
