I compare the E-M10 and E-M1 original versions. From the perspective of 2022 are they still viable cameras? Is the MFT format for you?

My OMD mk1 came with a grip, which makes it more secure to hold. Great camera and I've used the flip out screen to 'look down' at the subject, which makes you less conspicuous. Very good for street photography. I got a lovely 25mm f1.8 Olympus lens which all just about fits into a large pocket. I bring it in the car so it gets well-used.

That feature is a boon for both street photography and (when you are old like me), low-level shots!
@jameswburke
@jameswburke 4 месяца назад
@@photographyforenjoyment It certainly is. I got some very nice street shots in France, using the 'look down' method ;-)

I am mulling whether to buy a used OMD 1 Mk2. I am not M43 shooter yet but I would like to use one for my macro photography. The ability to do focus stacking in camera and the deeper depth of field are the strongest attractions. I prefer the flip down screen, but I could learn to use the flip out. Have you used focus stacking in these cameras?

Good video. If you upgrade the EM1 firmware to the latest (4.6) and use a stacking-compatible lens with latest firmware (12-40mm F2.8 Pro, 30mm or 60mm Macro etc) then your EM1 will support In-Camera Focus Stacking. I have one and use this feature all the time (takes 8 photos, combines them with a small crop...... just like Photoshop does). They are superb cameras, with so many great features. Nice to see some quality cameras now being used. Cheers. Tony

Great help to me 1-year later. I have owned the mark II which I loved but sold it as I just could not get on with the flip-out screen & video doesn't interest me. Have been in the market for something premium since but Olympus seem to have abandoned the old tilt-screen. Panasonic do two, but like most, are very heavy and bulky. Although I try to get away from using tripods, enjoy a focus stacking option. The latest M10 is an option but now my mind is made up, I'm going to look for a good condition mark I which are only around 200 UK pounds these days, and purchase the 12-40mm F2.8 Pro which has always been on my wish list. Thanks.

Good video and logical decision (choice of equipment). As I previously mentioned, I did film photography for over 30 years, a couple of years ago when I decided to come into the 21st century and go digital I looked at the Olympus and Fujifilm systems, I chose to go with the latter for the simplistic design and form factor, full frame was totally out of the equation, I really have no need for it. Be well, stay safe and keep making videos.

Another great plus for Micro 4/3 is that with the use of an inexpensive adapter, one can use most vintage lens and take stunning pictures. Of course, one has to focus manually, but with focus peaking and magnify as tools built into the camera its a snap !!!

nice video and chat Alan - looks like you've found your camera nirvana :-) I think mine will lie with Fuji APSC and a Nikon D700 for macro eventually. nice find with On1 doing the focus blending too. No point getting another piece of software to do that. I've been noticing in my video feed recently people praising a Meike 8mm wide-angle M43 lens (probably others like TTArtisans, Neewer, etc. making them too). Might be worth exploring to give you that extra "oomph" and I think a WA would easily suit your style :-)

I love the micro 4/3 system from Olympus. I use an EM5 mark I attached a camera with a 75-300 ii lens for bird photography and also video. I am very satisfied with the results. The result of your stacking photos is very beautiful too. Thanks for sharing. 1 LIKE for your video. Greetings from Singapore.

Interesting video, I picked up two of the EM-1s last year, one for my son and after finger-oogling that, I needed one for me as well. The 12-50 is a hidden and underrated gem in the M43 Multiverse. The son is shooting your exact set-up, along with a Godox TT350 flash, which is a perfect fit size-wise. If you fancy an upgrade on the lenses, check out the 12-45 and 40-150 f:4 Pros, you will get a small weight penalty, at about 200 grams, but the f:4s are very well worth it and you`ll get weather- and dust proofing on both lenses, along with temp. proofing.

Hi Jens and thanks so much for commenting. I completely agree about the 12-50mm, it is more or less always attached to my EM-1 MkII these days! I would also agree (in particular) with the 40-150 Pro lens suggestion, although it is out of my price bracket - at least for now! I am so pleased to hear that father & son are both into photography, it has made my day!

Another very interesting and very well produced, edited, and narrated video my friend! I’m not sure I mentioned this in my emails to you but I am planning on trading in my big full frame Canon 6D Mk II on a smaller Canon mirrorless EOS R. That’s Canon’s first mirrorless, it came out in 2018, around the same time I got the 6D. I’m staying with full frame for now because it suits my needs best for weddings and portraiture. There’s mixed reviews regarding the EOS R’s pro capabilities but I’m willing to take the risk and make it work for me for wedding and other client photography. 😎

I always look at reviews TC and if there is a trend I will take note. But the occasional "Nah I don't like X or Y" doesn't influence me. I'm pretty sure the EOS R will knock you out tbh. Let me know!

Great video but, by the way, the collapsible kit zoom only needs the switch to close it, it opens just by turning the zoom ring. It isn't the best idea but at least it can be ready to use without hunting for the switch.

Thanks for pointing that out Ira, it took me a few days to work that out but in the end it became surplus to requirements once I got the 12-50.

I was given a Lumix G1 with the 20mm f1.7. I was sufficiently blown away and followed up with an E-M1 with the 14-42 kit lens. I prefer the prime but the kit is serviceable. I’ve since added the 60mm macro, a delightful lens. A 40-150 plastic fantastic has just arrived and is ready for trial. My canon Mk iv is gathering dust. What to do? Dust off the Canon or sell it off? I love that camera too! Perhaps I should shoot Canon on Mondays and Olympus on Tuesdays.

Haha, you sound like you are in the same position I found myself in just a couple of years ago Norm! I too loved my Canon outfit, but age has crept up on me and now the MFT format suits me perfectly. I'm sure you will find time on the other days of the week to find your preferred format? Thanks for watching and commenting.

Silent shot mode does not use the shutter so the shutter count can be lower than the number of shots taken. Ffordes Photographic in Beauly are good second-hand suppliers.

You should get better lenses. For example the 12-40 2.8, the 40-150 2.8 or the 45 1.2. Yes the last 2 are expensive but will give you the short focus range. Nice video!

I enjoyed your video. A couple of thoughts. I own the E-M10 Mk I, an E-PL1, an E-PM2 which was supposed to replace the E-PL1which I still have, and a recently purchased E-M5 Mk III which I thought I needed, but probably didn't really. Why those four? Because they all take the same battery, the BLS-5/50. The E-M10 and the E-M5 I found a bit small, but I have an ECG grip for each one. And, although I did purchase the 12-40 mm f2.8 lens, I still love my 12-50 mm lens!

Hello Brian and thanks for this comment as it makes perfect sense to kit yourself with 4 models which all take the same battery, a good idea when batteries aren't exactly cheap! Yes, I have raved about the 12-50 lens and now that I will shortly have the 12-40 I'm interested to see how the two compare. Watch this space!

@wasylbakowsky5199 Год назад
Enjoyed the video. Having said that, your takeaway 'not very fast lenses' only applies to your slow lenses. Olympus makes quite a few fast 2.8 lenses, so your comment isn't very fair to the MFT system. If you had one of those, you wouldn't have made that comment.
@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment Год назад
Hello Wasyl and thanks for your comment. I do have the Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4 so I'm aware of the faster lenses. I think my comment certainly relates to the more "budget" and kit lenses that are relatively slow in comparison. Thanks for watching!
@wasylbakowsky5199
@wasylbakowsky5199 Год назад
@@photographyforenjoyment I also bought the EM-1 Mk1 used ($540 CAD/310 pound sterling), near mint (4k shutters). I have the 60mm 2.8 Oly macro, and 12-40 2.8, both of which will let the camera do focus stacking. I just thought it odd to mention that cheap lenses weren't that great, because they aren't, lol! They're good if you have enough light though...I've watched a lot of Robin Wong vids, he used to be an Oly ambassador, lots of great tips from his channel.

@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment 2 месяца назад
People do seem to be fixated on it Emil, along with the "Film Look". Whatever else mirrorless cameras have given us, they are responsible for an upsurge in demand for legacy lenses; does that improve our photography? Maybe not!
@jimbimedia
@jimbimedia 2 месяца назад
@@photographyforenjoyment , legacy lenses and those inexpensive Chinese imitations of those lenses slow us down. That is a good thing for the art and life in general. I often go for walks in the woods and always carry a camera. It enhances my experience in so many ways, it would require an entire essay. These kinds of thoughts might not matter to someone for whom photography is strictly a bread and butter issue.

I absolutely agree about these manual focus lenses slowing us down. For people of my age, it brings back memories of how we used to have to do things.
