Just a video showing the E-M1 Flagship from Olympus along with the E-M5II - both in Silver, so you can see the size of each one. I also throw in some lenses to the mix to take a look at :)
My E-M5II review is coming SOON

Really looking forward to that full review! I think I'm gonna end up getting the E-M5II, and your review will definitely help me get a better picture on it.

I must say, the reason why i stay with m43 is because size, quality, and overall responsiveness of olympus cameras.

Excellent comparison and thank you for your work. Question - can the provided external flash be used to a higher sync speed than 1/250s or do we have a buy a different flash to do that?

Hi Steve I have really enjoyed watching your videos. I used to live in Scottsdale and boy do I miss the weather but I now reside in Northern Canada where the northern lights are a common sight in our skies up here. But it is -30F currently......lol. I own a Canon 6D and to be honest I never pick it up or travel with it anymore because thanks to you and another person I have made the switch to the Olympus micro 4/3rds system. I really think that the micro 4/3rds system works fine for 99% of camera users. I was kinda fooled myself into thinking I needed a full frame like many people think the more megapixels means better. I have many 11x14 pictures blown up and the quality is amazing. Not everyone needs the blurred out background ( or bokeh) but you still can with micro 4/3rds. The Sony A7's seem really nice with the full frame sensor but unless the laws of physics change then the lenses are never going to be small ( like a f2.8) on the micro 4/3rds system. Anyways keep up the great work, I always look forward to your next video.

Hi Was wondering if you've had any experience working with a ring flash on any of the Olympus OM-D cameras, if so can you offer model, make etc? Thanks

The other very significant difference is that the E-M1 has phase-detect? auto focus to allow you to use your regular 4/3 lenses. The E-M5II does not. That was the main reason I went with the E-M1, 'cause some of the Zuiko 4/3 lenses are excellent and I didn't want to have to spend the money on a whole new set of lenses.

Steve are you sure the EM5II has the same sensor of the EM1? The EM1 OOCJ's still look better in my opinion on the EM1. I'd like to see a split screen if possible on the same image using the Nocticron.

I think Steve is mistaken, the E-M5 mkii has the same sensor as the E-M5 and the E-M10 but not the same as the PDAF sensor in the E-M1.

Steve, A6000 or the E-M5 II? I want the best image quality possible between those bodies. I won't shoot a lot of moving things, but I will do a little bit of panning shots, but not that much. I mostly like to shoot stills, day and night. I would love to be able to do some cool videos as well. I don't care that much about audio.

you'll get better performance and image quality out of the sony with a good choice of lenses bud. maybe a sigma 35 1.4 art and battery or two. altogether should be very cheap for what you're getting. enjoy

"Today, just as I said with the E-M1 launch, the E-M1 and now E-M5II, for me, beat ANY APS-C camera made today for usability, build, speed, features, lenses, color and IQ. There is not one APS-C camera made today that I would take over an E-M1 or E-M5II. None. No Fuji, no Sony, no Leica." -Steve Huff - E-M5 II review

Lol it's like you're reading a bible dude... think, experiment and find out for yourself if you object to my understanding haha you'll find more than enough information out there and plenty of things to play with that will give you the same understanding as me.

Ben Parsons I said you to do the tests and then you say I should do tests, what I have done long time ago and recently as proof to others in real life. You are just spreading fallacy and you are in denial as you didn't even read anything. So I treat you now on as person who is incapable to do tests, think and read, like a true believer of "Full Frame Church". Have a nice time... I am the person who laughs last....

*face palm* Sorry dude, but you worded things in a manor that wasnt clear. In response though, i Have tested the things that we're talking about, same lenses on multiple bodies while using the same light sorces and settings. Why? Because i wanted to test it and find out for myself. The testing that i and every other person who has properly done this while understanding the affecting points and differences between the cameras (such as the iso 200 base on smaller sensors) take into account those compensations for the diffent cameras as i've said. Try to avoid twisted my words. There 'aint no church' that i follow, as i dont have a damn bias to either side of the situation and intend to continue usinf the most suitable/capable equipment fornmy workflow, whatever that proves to be. Sorry to say it man, but im not the one spreading a fallacy... Go look it the hell up and fond out for yourself, as clearly, google isnt your friend so far... Im not laughing, so feel free to laugh, as im simply stating the information is slapping you in the face, so go and read it and stop, as you say 'spreading the fallacy' and do yourself a favour, as well as everyone else. Correct yourself.

Not really a fan of how the silver E-M1 looks. I have a black one, looks the bizz. Anyways... like you said, wouldn't you rather call the E-M5II the new flagship model? Well, I would. And to me it has things worth upgrading from the E-M1! Especially since I'm a hybrid shooter, so I really appreciate the vari-angle display and the added functionality. The idea of adding a grip and then gaining a headphone jack is great. I've been hoping for the E-M1 to get a better video mode (mostly frame rates though) since forever, and even the latest firmware doesn't touch this subject. So it's pretty much a done deal... out with the E-M1, in with the E-M5II.

I think Olympus would be very successful with a full frame camera. They been always liked for there design and quality and I think this people would love full frame,... since it's available fore small money now.

Mike Deck says: "agree I've been using olympus for a while now and love it but am really tempted by some other full frame cameras, especially with what sony has been putting out recently." == I'm curious, what's keeping you from trying out Sony full frame?

bearinch mmh - mirrors user like fine prime lenses - if you look at some fine nikon D-pime lens you got something to compare. A Nikon D610 or D750 with the D 35mm f2 is very light combo for example. But my comment was more about the people I know who used Olympus before digital. That guys been looking always fore the best stuff. Driving SAAB having the best Audio and now switching to other camera brands then Olympus. The Olympus user somehow changed completely. But the guys I know are still there and would love to have a Olympus FF.

Not to nit-pick but the E-M1 and E-M5II do not have the same sensor. The E-M5II has the same sensor as its predecessor, which is made by Sony, unlike the sensor in the E-M1 which is made by Panasonic. While they are both 16MP and similar in many ways, the Sony sensor out-perfoms that of the E-M1 during long exposures.

I can't recommend E-M1 to anymore anyone, expect to those who dislike articulating screen. I prefer the tilting screen, way better for photography, expect when trying to take a portrait from so low angle that camera needs to be tilted up so much that I can't even see the screen anymore (over 85 degree angle to me). The upcoming 3.0 firmware (available already) just adds PDAF focusing to H mode (you need to use High framerate and C-AF to get it). But no new framerates to video (Photograhers living 70% of the world countries, basically others than USA and Japan are screaming to get 25fps to remove the lights flickering) and that is bad thing. And some rumors are that Olympus isn't adding the framerates to E-M1, making it just sunlight outdoor video capable without any artificial lights in frame. Steve, You said that E-M5 II doesn't have same level weather sealing, while even Olympus gives it same ratings, even for freeze proof. So all what I can really see is that if buyer has opinion about screen hinge, button layout and no requirement to video framerate, the E-M5 II is the winner. Olympus simply killed E-M1 with this one release when they don't release all OM-D line bodies at once.

The eyecup on my new Em5 mk2 comes off easily. I've lost it once already. If a butterfly sneezes on it it will come off! Olympus needs to make a new improved replacement for it.

I'm amazed that nobody has explained to Steve that he's wrong yet!? I've watched all too many of his/your videos and it continues to leave me speechless. i appreciate the interest in the m4/3rds sensor cameras as it's a reminder that it's not the camera that makes the difference, but the person using it. that and any feelings i have or don't, towards those or any cameras- surely someone has to tell him to correct himself on the fact that you are Not gathering the same amount of light as you would with, for example, a canon or leica 1.2 on a full frame sensor, as you are with Any other sized sensor, Especially in context of a panasonic or olympus m4/3rds sensor!? Do the math and work it out through your sizeable stack of equipment, it is standard equivalence! You're quitting half way through and saying you make no loss of light in all your videos Steve, a number of which i enjoy by the way, but do you not recognise the fact you aren't simply multiplying the focal length and aperture (DOF)? the entire reason that this is the case is because the sensor is smaller, and so getting the said amount (crop factor) of light Less than the full frame standard. In the nicest way, Please, correct yourself, as i can't be the only person that tries watching your videos that recognising your mistake/misunderstanding. I look forward to more lens reviews from you either way, so all the best.

Hahaha :) clearly you're a highly skilled linguist, Brian. Try not to hold it against me that I had a point to make around a subject im passionate about (due to being a freelance photographer) without causing offence. So, not to remind you of the last question your ex asked you, but speaking of points, what happened to yours? Because its almost like you never had one, and felt like trying to get some attention anyway?

Well I don't know. If you would use a full frame lens on both a full frame camera and a m43 using the same settings and then crop the full frame picture to the same area the latter took. Then the latter would be darker. It does not seem logical to me at all. Where does the light go? Does it spread out? No, the same amount of light hits the sensor but the edges of the lens are lost. I'm no expert so if my argument is wrong please tell my why.
@tts3874
@tts3874 9 лет назад
Appreciating the logical approach to the conversation bud, there are one or two affecting points relating to manufacturers and the exposure triangle, but that aside it is literally a case of equivelence meaning the contrast betwen sensor sizes means the smaller sensored cameras are being starved of light. A full frame F2.8 on a crop sensor body does not get the same amount of light, in any reguard, due to there not being the same surface area for the light to be gathered bud. I have no problem or boas on cameras, but im not gonna beat around the fact it tweeks me off that 'professionals' in the industry dont seem to understand, Let alone teach, the facts and instead, create bias' to cameras that they shouldnt have lol. Hopefully that response answers any questions you have even if briefly bud
@daniels7126
@daniels7126 9 лет назад
Thanks mate, but why is it that there is less light? I mean I gave it a thought jet I do not understand why that is. If one would have a projector displaying just something, it would't magically get dimmer if you were to hold a piece of cardboard with a hole in it in front of the projector. Or is it because the pixels are smaller thus harder for them to be as effective? That a decrease in surface area is the problem seem illogical to me. Ps. don't want to be an annoyance
