Does this function also increase the dynamic range? Would it be better to use the built-in ND filter to achieve a greater DR?

Hi Adam - Yes there is an increase in DR when using the Hi Res function as it collects more data between the original photo sites on the sensor. This will provide more DR than LIVE ND. I hope that helps - David :)

Hi Ton - It can be personal preference but if you want the most data, use 14 bit.

Does this create a high resolution JPEG or raw? Or both?

There are several options that are user selectable regarding output - both RAW and JPEG files.
