I like the way you do your exposure. It makes A LOT of sense

Thanks. There's more than one way to do exposure, but I found this works for me.

So - I have an unrelated question: (New to OM -1 ) …. Can u suggest which macro to purchase., i know huge price difference., BUT either way - still curious as to your thoughts ., sharpness , is the more expensive one really worth the money , …. Oh and Love ALL your videos ., the best resource on Olympus !!! Thank you !

Thanks, Bernie. I don't own any of the macro lenses, so can't comment on personal experience. From a practical sense, I'd probably buy the 30mm. It's just wide enough to use for everyday photography but gives you the option to get close. To get 1:1, you have to get within a few mm's, so it's not ideal for true macro. The 60mm gives you some good working distance for 1:1, can be used for portraits, but is a little tight for everyday use. The 90mm is a specialty lens if you're serious about macro. As for sharpness, it's safe to assume they will all get you great results but as I said, I don't own any of these.

Very helpful! I haven’t used the video part of OM1 yet. It will mostly be grandkids, birthday parties, etc. Have you made a tutorial for indoor videos?
@RobTrek
@RobTrek 8 месяцев назад
Thanks. No, I haven't made a video like that as I don't have kids and so of course no grandkids. However, I don't see how the settings would be different.

Rob - I am going on a trip soon and have not ever used my OM-1 for video but would like to. I watched your video on settings and saving it into the custom menu, using My menu and it looked to complicated for me to mess with. This video looks more straight forward and gives me hope that I can use my OM-1 for video on this trip. Do I need to save these settings or can I just set the camera as you suggest and begin shooting video? Thank you for your great content and information. I don't know how you do it!
@RobTrek

About the resolution. Should I be doing cinema 4k or regular 4k? What's the difference? Also with the all-i, you said it had the highest quality but is that the highest quality just for 1080p? Or out of all the modes? 🤔
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
As for resolution, it depends on your intended media. For RU-vid, I'd use regular 4k. C4k is slightly higher resolution, but will have black bars showing on the top and bottom on RU-vid. ALL-I is for 1080p only.

What picture profile do you think is best? Videos i've watched about the topic say that the OMLOG is oversharpened and since you can't turn down sharpness, they opt for natural or custom with -2 all settings. Do you think that's the case? Apparently, the picture profile affects autofocus as well.
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
I'm so sorry I didn't see your question. It got dumped in the spam folder. I need to check that more often! I personally use OMLOG for my professional work and haven't noticed any AF issues. But I usually manually focus for that. I don't find the footage over sharpened at all. I need the exposure latitude more than I need the video to be sharp or unsharp. It's easy enough to unsharpen footage in post if you want. I use muted profile for most of my vlogging. But that is a personal choice because my skin tone is very red and I prefer a softer look of myself.

What lens do you recommend? Is there a non fish eye wide angle with f2 or brighter?
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
The closest thing Olympus has is the 7-14mm f/2.8. You can use the 8mm fisheye, but you'd need to defish the video in post production. I've done it, it's not hard in Davinci Resolve. Another choice would be the Panasonic 9mm f/1.7. I've not tried it myself, but I think it's safe to assume it will work well. But definitely check around before purchasing.
@blankhub
@blankhub Год назад
Do you think using panasonic lenses on olympus bodies is okay though? I've heard in videos that the autofocus isn't as good if you don't use native.
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
The video AF for Panasonic Lenses is very good on the Olympus cameras that have Phase Detect. It was more of a problem on non-phase detect models. However, I'd say the Olympus Lenses will still perform marginally better.
@blankhub

I SEE! Okay, i had mine on +1 +1 for the c-af sensitivity and speed
@RobTrek

Experient, but I generally use -1-1.

Hi Rob, the latest firmware version 1.5 has led to video improvements in 'AFC or Tracking?
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
It's very minor if any. The tracking (CAF+TR) is still unreliable except when combined with subject detect for video. For stills, I wouldn't use CAF+TR unless the subject is very clear and slow moving.

I wish you had some test shots comparing stuff like the noise filter on standard vs high. I guess it wouldn't be exactly the same as my camera but it would've given me a way to visualize how much noise reduction is applied and if there are any disadvantages to going high on it.
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
I didn't think about that. I could maybe do another video that could go into more detail.
@blankhub
@blankhub Год назад
@@RobTreki'd appreciate that and i think it's a good easily searchable video that'll get search engine views. ALSO if you have recommendations for lenses as, i'm not a videographer or photographer by trade. I'm really unaware of the choices. Even if you have amazon/ebay listings on screen while talking about what's out there + maybe a little price comparison. That would be incredible helpful.
@blankhub
@blankhub Год назад
@@RobTrek also IF you do this. Let us know if the lens is bulbous or flat. For filter reasons.

What is the difference between the c-af and the c-af-tr? It's really better to just go c-af? Much more accurate and smooth?
@RobTrek
@RobTrek Год назад
Just use C-AF. It's better to say the C-AF makes less mistakes than using C-AF+TR.
@Comicportalde

I don't see why not.

4:30 ALL-I does not really give a better video quality. It captures every frame instead of just "the changing ones". The benefit is that it is way easier for PC Hardware to DECODE later in post production. But files can easiely be 5-10 times bigger. I would firstly suggest to shoot ONLY 10 bit because THAT really gives way better video quality. BUT H265 is heavy to decode IF you do not have the correct hardware with hardware de-/encoding on it. Like a Intel iGPU or a Apple M1
