If the Worldtimer was any smaller you wouldn't be able to read it due to the design. As it is it's on the edge. (Full disclosure, I love this watch)

1-2mm wouldn’t effect the legibility all that much. Plus way too thick imo

Thanks for your video. I picked up the titanium version yesterday. I think the 43 mm size works well because the world timer packs a lot of information onto the dial. A smaller dial would make the names of cities harder to read. I also love studying the intricate details of the world map. Any smaller and that’d be harder to do. In fact, I would have liked the map to be bigger to see more of its details, but it’s excellent as it is. 7.25” wrist.

I love the titanium world timer but firstly, I object at the price & secondly, I'm not keen on the size either. I do have an Aqua Terra on a rubber strap, so mainly its the price of the watch that puts me off. Given the ridiculous catalogue of watches that Omega have, I'd be staggered if these new models are a roaring success. There's so many other Omegas available for significantly less money, I doubt too many will be tempted by these world timers, no matter how beautiful they are.

Hi Andy! IMHO the blue World Timer is still the best looking one. And I also wish Omega would have made it a watch with a lug-to-lug below 50mm. Best wishes, Claus

Fantastic video...very informative and well made! I own the Steel World Time Omega, and I was surprised by how well it wore on my 7-inch wrist; I was surprised because I thought it would overpower my wrist, but somehow it does not. I have it on the blue rubber strap, and that makes a difference. The rubber strap makes a huge difference in weight and keeps things very comfy. I picked it up for 7.3K USD before taxes and after discounts from my AD. I just saw an ad from Joma shop for 6.9K USD as a Thanksgiving 2023 promotion. So, the price has clearly fallen since their launch. Overall, it's a good-looking watch. What I don't like is the inner dial that shows the world time, which is really, really, really tiny, making it impossible to read without my reading glasses. Also, the color choice for the numbers in the daytime part of the inner dial is super light making it difficult to read. Clearly, form over function - I am surprised no one from Omega thought about this. This is not a true GMT in the sense that the GMT time is not readable due to the same font size issue. They could have put a Cyclops window over the GMT time and moved the date to 3'O clock. That would make this watch immensely more practical.

From the marketing standpoint, they must be selling since more & more brands/models are headed larger. And, from the perspective of someone with an 8.5" wrist, I can't say that I mind. For many years I had a pretty limited selection unless I wanted to wear something that looked like it belonged on my wife or kid.
@vinceslapchopper

The dial is very cluttered on the world timer, maybe they manufactured a bigger case to improve legibility of the time zones?
@AnotherDaveInParadise

I was in the market for the blue WT on the bracelet this time last year. The fit was excellent on my 7.25" wrists, and it does wear smaller than you would expect for 43mm. Delivery was delayed, so I went with the Tudor GMT S&G in the end as I came across one available in store. This is 'only' 41mm, but being on the chunky side the on-wrist wear is pretty much the same as the WT. One thing I will say, is Omega have got some neck with their pricing over the last 12-24 months. The WT on a bracelt was £8130 a year ago, and could be picked up for well under £7k.

@anthonystevens8683
@anthonystevens8683 Год назад
Some interesting comments Andy, I have the Globemaster in blue on the leather band and for me it will be the last watch that perish the thought that I would sell. I also have the long discontinued AT GMT 231.90.43.22.04.001 (pre-METAS) that although larger at 43mm is fine on my 7" wrist and it's very light being titanium and arguably more dressy. Following a call from the AD a few years ago I did look at the SS world timer that was a great watch and only a little bit bigger than my AT GMT but I just found it a tad too 'busy' on the dial side although I loved the way it worked. If it was smaller it might be just too hard to read the GMT functions so I can sort of understand that. For watches that have many complications a larger case sort of makes sense but as you mention the 8900 movement is fine in smaller cases so for new models 39mm or a smidgen bigger should be perfect for housing such a great movement. Oh and I do like titanium, on my wrist today is the Pelagos 39 that is crazy light. Many thanks for sharing Andy. I look forward to your thoughts on the Oris.
@TrumanBurbankFE
@TrumanBurbankFE Год назад
The Omega sickness is the thickness of its 8xxx and 9xxx movements. Yes, the Globemasters are 39mm but they are as thick like the others so it will sit on your wrist like a hockey puck, so therefore I think by spreading out the case balances the watch case more. I'm not certain but the co-axial escapement, the automatic works and the sapphire case back probably take a lot of space height wise, adding on the chronograph as well.

@@smo1001 I don't know where you got those numbers from, it sounds like you're making up statistics. And since when are big watches proper? Watches are supposed to be the finishing touch to a man's clothes, not the main attraction. Maybe it's a "bigger is more masculine" thing?
@smo1001
@smo1001 Год назад
@@giloro85 Obviously, the 70% was not meant to be a precise mathamatical calculation. As to your other point, big to you is not big to me. That's the whole point. I have an 8 inch wrist. A 43mm on my wrist looks reserved and tasteful, comparable to a 37 on an average wrist. I don't like the oversiized look any more than you do. But it's not oversized on me. I have this in steel on the blue rubber. I also have a 7.625” wrist so don’t mind the size. I think the legibility of the city names would be compromised if the watch was any smaller. I don’t think it wears as large as it’s dimensions though on the rubber strap.

Omega has some 36mm Constellations in is Gents' range, but they're not the ones with the fancy bezels and you have to scroll a long way to get there. Tag Heuer recently showcased its new Carrera chronographs, which are 39mm, and the new Carrera Date models are 36mm, even in the mens' section!

I do agree that Omega tend to make thick watches, but I also feel that the cases with polished lyre lugs tend to hide their size well. I'm on the fence with the World Timer; I own a Seamaster, which I find to be on the edge of being large for me, so I definitely have my trepidations about the size. I'm also not so crazy about the polished centre links nor the rubber strap. As much as I like the idea of owning one, it doesn't seem to crack the top 5 of my wishlist.

@JamesSnell-rc5xt
@JamesSnell-rc5xt Год назад
The Globemaster is a basic three-hander, with 100 m of water resistance, and it's still 12.5 mm thick. And since Omega's in-house movement adds complications on a modular basis, well I think you know where I'm going with this. Unfortunately for Omega, they developed their movement in the early 2000's, when larger watches were all the rage. As a result, it seems that no real priority was given to making the movement sufficiently compact like the ETA movements it replaces. The reason the case diameters are so big is to provide overall proportionality to the watch given the thickness that cannot be reduced. Omega really has painted themselves into a corner here, at least for as long as smaller watches remain fashionable.

Let me start with an axiom - watches are made to be enjoyed. The corollary to it, is - if one does not like one model, he needs to find something else that rocks his boat. All those talks about 1 mm here and 2 mm there sound like a snobbery of sorts. I have both PO and Speedmaster Moon phase, and I can assure you that looking at them on my wrist, I just enjoy them and do not, even for a second, think about the size. They are just great. Plan to add the Worldtimer. Remember, the size does not matter, if the joy is here :)

I like the grey one and I like the size. Personally I find the critique of larger cases (anything above 39mm these days?!?) to be a bit played out and disingenuous, as many watch buyers have larger wrists and prefer a watch that fills out the wrist. A 43mm case on a 7.5" wrist looks just like a 39mm case on a 6.5mm wrist. Hope this clears up the confusion for those who continue to be deliberately obtuse about the issue. I don't care for the strap choice though, and look forward to seeing some aftermarket straps on these Ti watches.

how much more cluttered can a dial be (World Time)? Regarding legibility Omega should have a good look at Sinn.Also for thickness and case size. For example the Sunn U50 is 41mm wide by 12 mm thick. Large enough for diving (who goes diving with an automatic watch those days??), very legible dial and very thin for a 500 (!!) meter water resistance. Omega’s current catalogue is a hot mess. Too many variants of too many models, a great many of which are far too big and too expensive, the best of which remain mysteriously unavailable months, or even years, after ‘launch’. I can only surmise that Omega has production problems - perhaps Omega is struggling to produce enough co-axial movements (?) - and is choosing to launch in unpopular sizes so that they don’t have to make that many of them, whilst appearing to have new models coming up all the time.
