I've owned my first TAG Heuer dive watch for 22 years and bought my second one (an Aquaracer) 2 years ago. Never had any problems. Great every day watches!
@@spartanswatchreviews6558 funnily enough, I was looking at a Seamaster and an Aquaracer sitting next to each other in a jeweller's window the other day, the Tag's second hand missed every one of the indices, sadly it was outclassed completely in the "previously cherished" window. There was also a Datejust, a Submariner and about 3 or 4 other Rolex watches in that section and the Tag was the only watch with a second hand that was missing it's indices. It was also the newest watch in that section. I suppose, to be fair, I should also say it was the least expensive to buy new too but still, not a cheap watch (£2500 new in the shop across the mall), I expected better from Tag, at the asking price you could buy a tonne of watches that are put together better.
The first thing that immediately puts me off that Omega is the dull/ weird looking bracelet. Check out the 2018 Aquaracer Automatic in Black, the watch looks absolutely divine 😍😍
I have both and had a new Rolex I love tags , but sea marster is in a league of its own they make them Rolex etc sell them , but Tags r very good units had them for 30 year's can not completely compare them but both fantastic 👌
I so regret selling my Aquaracer. I sold that over my orange Aquis and to this day, I don't know what i was thinking. The Aquaracer looked absolutely stunning with black and yellow NATO or the black and grey NATO
Thank you for the honest, unbiased comparison and follow up on your original video. The seamaster and speedmaster are right up there on my dream watch list😅
I have a tag heuer Aqua racer caliber 5. I had to send it to Tag twice for warrantee work on the movement. Works well now...but maybe runs a tad bit fast. Overall I really like it but agree that Tag should spend less on ambassadors and adverts and more on the watches and quality control. I was also looking at a Breitling Superocean II at the time I bought the Tag and wish I had gone with it. I probably will end up getting one. All that to say the aquaracer is a well constructed watch and has a great look on the wrist. The size is just right I think. But to potential buyers I would certainly look at other brands and compare.
Yes, the movement quality unfortunately suffers because TAG keeps cost down on the worst possible place, which is really unfortunate, because the still can make good watches when they want to. Thank you for watching!
I had this exact watch and just like you, BACK to Tag Heuer twice in a year for warranty work. The watch wasn't even a year old and the power reserve would go down to so little it wouldn't run through the night, it would stop dead on my wrist or on a winder. I'll never ever buy a Sellita powered watch again. Ended up selling it (with factory warranty and like 4 years on retailer warranty left cause I'm not a monster) and replaced it with the Omega in this video.
@@johnkennedy9078 in today's market anything around 6. I see the used market on eBay is around 4,000 or 5,000 so New from an AD would be bumped up. But the economy will be in the shitter for at least the next few months so keep looking.
Wow, impressed with this vid. Didn’t care for the music opener but enjoyed how you got straight to the point on your opinions. I’m personally trying to decide whether my next watch will be a TH or Omega. I like the seamaster a lot. For Tag, it wouldn’t be the Aqua Racer but either a Carrera or Monaco. Thx again for your update review.
This is why I would never buy a TAG. It looks beautiful, yes. But the cheap movement and plastic inner case is simply not ok in a watch of that caliber. I'll stick to my Oris and Tudor.
I think that review is not that objective. I have Tag Heuer aquaracer caliber 5 almost 2 years I don't have any problems with the movement. I have the version of 600 meters water resistant with helium escape valve 41 mm case size. and I still have accuracy of - 4sec a day. Omega is great but in this model the movement is ETA that modify for coaxial escapement. the coaxial escapement is not that efficient in that movement. only in 2018 model Omega did a good job. the craft in that Omega is not that great I definitely prefer the Tag over that Omega in craft
Would be interesting to swap the bands and see how people's perceptions change. The band on the Tag is so cheap looking, which says nothing about the watch itself.
I was given this same Aquaracer (except with a metal band and the blue dial) for my 22 birthday, and came to wear it daily 8 months later. I dropped it 8 inches onto carpet and it stopped working immediately. I sent it back to Watch Maxx and they "fixed it" and sent it back 4 months later. It stopped working two days after that. Maybe I can't generalize the fragility of mine, but I was a bit disappointed.
As I said in the video, that Sellita is the cheapest acceptable option, so TAG's movement choice definitely doesn't help with durability or reliability.
Sad that you had problems with movement in aquaracer, but it is not lowest grade movement, it is not decoraded (finishing is not grade), but it has incablock and with the accordace to sellita web site incablock is used only in top and chronometre grades. I have 2019 aquaracer and it goes +3 sec a day.
Omega is the king of dive watches. Yes I know about the Rolex submariner exists but the Omega is symbolic. That being said the Tag is a good buy for under $2k which is easy to find.
Hi, honey, Thank you for checking my information I'm a watch dealer For example, TAG Heuer watches, if you are interested, please contact me to support counter inspection. I wish you a happy life!
Tag Heuer makes and has made beautiful watches. However, they cut corners in terms of quality. I had an Aquaracer, and the crown stem has worn out within 2 years, thus unable to screw down the crown. For the asking price, you can get so much better quality watches on other brand (Sinn, Hamilton, Longines, Oris) that it seems like one buys the watch for the name, and not for the quality of the watch. Honestly, when i saw that movement, how it's not regulated or decorated, and how they used plastic framing for the movement, it REALLY threw me off. I didn't expect such poor quality on a $2400 watch. Thank you for shining the side of Tag Heuer that the brand seems to be hiding with their ambassadors.
I just traded in the tag aquaracer after having to send it in twice for grinding when trying to wind the watch, always ran 20+ seconds a day all this within the year of ownership I wouldn't recommend this as a substitute to the Omega which I also own from 1995 and that is a workhorse. After trading in the tag, I have purchased the Rolex op39 dark rhodium. Beautiful timepiece flys under the radar too boot.
I have the aquaracer i really like the shape of the bezel and purchased it £1000 below retail, which i believe is a good price. Next i would like either an Omega railmaster or Tudor black bay heritage.
Great and honest review. I'm thinking about getting this Tag myself however I do agree that they are spending to much money and effort on ambassadors than on movements.
Thank you, in the context of what I have found out about movement, their massive and incorrectly targeted marketing is a deal breaker for me right now.
Artur Garncarz Almost every brand is spending loads of money on marketing. Omega are spending tons just to have 007 wear their watches. But it works. People are buying them. Also the Omega is way more expensive than the TAG Heuer.
I’ve had my aquaracer since 2010, still going strong. Most beautiful “divers” on the market. Built like a tank. I don’t like the design of the seamaster, a bit to tiny but with ridiculously big helium escape valve. And the watch band.. maybe in the 90s it was cool and “luxurious” but imo it’s not beautiful. But luckily everyone has their own taste.
Would love a sea master maybe one day if I work hard enough I’m sure il be able to afford one, great video man 👌🏻👍🏻 105 likes no dislikes says it all👌🏻
Spartans Watch Reviews that is true you do BUT for me it’s nice to have a nice time piece on your wrist love watches they are like what hand bags are to woman😂😂 my wife has about 15 of the bloody things 😂😂
Omega Seamaster Ceramic is the best watch for $3000. TAG Aquaracer is a good watch for less than $2000; it would be a great watch for that price if it wasn't for the plastic ring used to hold the movement in place outside the perimeter of the movement.
If I'm not mistaken the Omega 300M actually features a 9 link bracelet. The smaller segments on "2nd" and "4th" links are all separate. Other then that great video. Just further confirms my decisions to get a 300M for myself.
To be fair the knowledge isn't my own since I have yet to own one for myself. However, the gentleman at my Omega Boutique are the ones that informed me about the bracelet if that helps.
I have a 2022 Orange Aquaracer. Its a beautiful watch and everything from the outside is fantastic and high quality. Its a shame they cut major corners with the movement, mine has been in for repair once already with a grinding noise when winding. No problem with accuracy. I wouldn't buy another tag Aquaracer until they fit a better quality movement.
Very disappointed with Tag for using a low grade cheap movement for this watch. The watch looks amazing but the movement and housing is just unacceptable. I was so close in purchasing one too. Glad I saw your review.
I just want to clarify something about that movement. It's NOT a standard base grade movement. It's a SW200 premium movement. You can tell because it has Incabloc shock protection. It's not a decorated movement but it is a good as an SW200 gets without being chronometer certified.
@@jonnieinbangkok Yes, TAG uses Durlin nylon. Officially, they say it's used to increase shock protection. TAG watches have used them since the 70s so it's not anything new and they aren't the only premium brand to use them. I know people make comments like, "Rolex doesn't use spacers." Yes, that's true but Rolex makes their cases for a specific watch and a specific movement. Other brands use the same case for multiple movements. An Aquaracer case accommodates a chronograph, automatic and quartz movements. In the grand scheme of things, TH probably save less than $1 to use nylon over metal. So the money saved couldn't even pay Tom Brady's endorsement contract. My issue with this watch is the Sellita movements. My issue with TAG is too many cheap models. The Formula One models should be rebranded as Formula by TAG and eliminate the quartz models. Anyway, the AQ Cal 5 is a reasonably built quality built watch.
@@stangresham6024 I like the design and build quality of the TH case but using the same case to fit in so many different movements (and using plastic spacers to tighten things up) kinda cheapens the watch...and they're not THAT cheap to buy. Maybe I'll look into he Omega 300m diver instead.
Great video! Whats the average retail price for the newest version of the seamster? also if you was going to buy a watch online what site would you recommend using? Based in the UK
Great reviews. I recently got seamaster as well and completely agree with the clasp. Is it just the normal planet ocean micro-adjustable clasp that I should order?
I'm hesitating between Aquaracer Caliber 5 vs Caliber 16; watching that plastic ring is very dissapointing. What are your thoughts? Is Caliber 16 better? Omega will be my next, eventually
I own both but different years. A 2014 Aquaracer with the Sellita 200 movement. Mine has stopped working in a few occasions and had to go to the shop...sometimes for months. It’s looks nice but it’s garbage. My 1999 Seamaster is a workhorse. Has been in in the shop once(I bought it new) for a service. Omega is much better. Good review.
Im shopping in the gray market tag price range currently, although people hate on the tag because the omega is superior but based on the price difference i don't know what the fuss is about
Thanks for the review ! Was loosing at that Tag because I don’t really want to spend 5k on the Omega yet but you mentioning the movement issues which are commonly a point of contention with Tag I think I’m going for a Quartz and save up for the real deal in the Omega ;)
It's the bracelet on the Omega. I do agree Tag Heuer always looks amazing, I have both Tag and Omega I swapped the bracelet on my Omega and it's a game changer
it would be more interesting to see a comparison between the aquaracer and a fully modded skx (4r36 movement, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, strapcode bracelet) since there is a huge price gap even with the added cost.
Excellent. Where did you get that Omega slide clasp? I took my Seamaster Diver 300m to the Omega Store and asked if they could change the clasp. They acted as if I asked them to sell me a counterfeit watch.
And how about new longines hydroconquest with ceramic bezel, without visual side it’s a personal choice, which watch do you recommend? As a quality and as a brand which is better, New longines hydro with ceramic or tag heuer aquaracer.
vw audi owns ducati but they are not audis or vw by a long way, or even Lamborghini. Brand ownership is different. You're saying 2 independent companies are making an in house watch when one company is only buying components from the other. They aren't rolls Royce and Bentley in the 70s, two sides of the same coin but mearly two coins in the same pocket
(6:33) - The frequency of 25,200 beats per minute = 7 BEATS PER SECOND, and the term «Hertz» actually MEANS «CYCLES PER SECOND», where «cycles» actually = «SOUND-CYCLES» and actually refers to EACH BEAT-SOUND, EACH «tic» and EACH «tac», so that EACH back-and-forth sway of the pallet fork against the jewel of the balance-spring totals 2 BEATS, 1 BEAT EACH TIME the pallet fork’s JEWEL STRIKES against the BALANCE SPRING’s jewel, one BEAT as it strikes from one side and then another BEAT as it strikes from the other side, NOT 0.5 beat ecah time one jewel strikes the other. 1 Hertz isn’t the mehanical back-and-forth cycle of the pallet fork but the SOUND-cycle of each jewel-against-jewel STRIKE. What does that mean? It means the movement feequency in «Hertz» is 7, not «three point five», ok?
I'm in a dilemma..choose an oris aquis date or a tag hauer aquaracer calibre 5 automatic..? Aquis costs 1580 euros and the tag costs 1770euros.. which one would you choose..? And i think they both have the same automatic mechanism.. plz help me
ORIS has the ETA while the TAG has sellita, both are almost the same specs mechanism but apparently experts say ETA is a bit better (it's been around for many years as well so it's tested for time). Ultimately it's what you like best. The ORIS is considerably thicker and also larger in size I believe. So think about how big your wrists are also. With Oris if you have wrists smaller than 7 inch it will be difficult I think.
It is sad the Aquaracer has a lower grade movement over the Carrera yet they are advertised as the same. I owned the WAY2110 and had issues in transit for servicing (scratches) and got a refund and later bought the Carrera WAR201E. I did have movement issues with my Aquaracer but not with the Carrera. I want that same Aquaracer back again but not sure if it is worth the issues that might arise. I bought the Carrera with the refund money so I really dont even have the money to spend like that so I would be super pissed if I get that Aquaracer I fell in love with again and it stops working on me.
The Seamaster is more money, but it seems like there are some things to actually JUSTIFY that extra cost: better casework, better clasp, better movement. The Aquaracer is a $500 watch with $1500 worth of branding. Sell it and get something else. How about a 1960s hand-wound Rolex, fresh from an overhaul?
Mr Emir, if $$$ is not a problem go for the Omega. If the Omega price is a major consideration, go for the ORIS Aquis(blue or green dial) . Its look is a "stunner " & its movement accuracy abt the same standard as the Longines Hydroconquest & better than the TH Aquaracer. The Oris Aquis retails abt $2000 Singapore currency
If I'm spending 2000+ euros dollars whatever I don't want plastic on/inside my watch at all! Maybe rubber o rings nd such in crown system/gaskets but other than that NO PLASTIC ... anywhere!
Plastic holder is actually not that big of a deal, Cartier for example uses it as well and because of the flexibility it even provides sort of a protection of the movement. Problem is the low grade of that Sellita movement, that really is unpleasant at that price point.
TAG really screwed you on the movement in that watch. At 7:13, when you say that the only thing holding the movement in the watch is the crown stem -- does that screw in the lower left corner also hold the movement in place?
This sums up modern Tag for me. Beautiful to look at containing inside the case the cheapest movements they can get away with mostly without decent regulation as well!!. When oh when will they ever learn!!. Give it a sw300 or ETA 2892 and regulate the dam things I would buy one tomorrow. As things stand Tag equals pure greed and everybody knows it!!
This comparison is like Volkswagen vs. Audi. Both are german reliable nice cars but that is it. They are simply not in a same league and should not expect the same quality. p.s I also have an aquaracer with quartz movement, becuase when it comes to automatic I would stick with Omega.
