I regret not going. However done alot of work on ft bragg. (Electrician) In my first lead role, (solely cause I could pour the concrete for the xfmr and generator) I installed emergency backup power at JSOC and USASOC. The air force built a new C130 4 bay hangar just before selling to Army. There i witnessed 3 days with only electricians and pipefitters because the word immigration enforcement was on base. Went from 100+ to 10 workers. More barracks than I can remember, all the access points post 911. Shooting range that burned down 1st week in operation. Turns out tracer rounds and rubber mats don't mix. Maintenance on the freefall simulator, my company had wired in the 90s. And more underground power than I care to recollect. Which would all but eliminate maintenance and outages in the civilian grid. But regret not being a soldier that was worth more in one single day than all mine. The backbone of the Omega teams wasn’t the operators themselves but the Afghan partner forces they recruited and worked with. That’s where Omega developed its detailed intelligence infrastructure from, by training and enabling these Afghans to get in close into areas where they would blend in far better then any western operator could. Omega and RRC operators Mike Edwards and Philipe Peters talk about this on the Team House podcast with Jack Murphy and Dave Park.
