@@BarkandJack Don't, because they were lazy this time. And they know it. I can imagine what happens inside Omega now. What would you do, if you were the manager?
The best thing about the G-shock is that you can always get replacement parts for the module, especially if the module is solar and still working. I have a Mudman rallytimer edition that I bought for my uni graduation. It's been with me for 11 years and counting. The strap and case wore out after the 9th year. I replaced both and it's as good as new. Let's see the Moonswatch top that.
@@lanceorventech6129 and scratches gives a nice patina. I know plenty of old men, tho has their old Rolex, Omega, Seiko watches. Scratches all over. This is worth something.
Another vote for the G-Shock here. Replaced the skin & strap on mine and it looks good as new, 15 years old and still powering on. That Moonswatch thing really is crap.
Thanks for including some shots of your Seamaster 300 Adrian! That video back in 2020 (I believe) convinced me to save up for my first Swiss made watch and here we go, 3 years later and I‘m owning exactly that watch. And of course a couple of Bark&Jack nato straps, just because 😌
Looking at the front of the queue at 05:33 . It's almost as if there's a reseller uniform - dark puffy hooded jacket, baggy cargo pants / joggers, double headgear...
I happen to be in the area on the day and had the freedom to pop downstairs three times to see how the queue was doing. Absolutely agree with you regarding the population of the people in the queue, and I see those dressed like local works (probably swatch's intended target audience) turned away because of this. On a positive note I think the queue is well managed, plenty of security staff, thoughtful queueing area designed to and effectively avoided congesting the pavement.
In fairness to Omega, they weren't down with the whole MoonSwatch concept to begin with. But they had to bow to their lords and masters at Swatch and accept the humiliation cheerfully.
Well said ! I can’t imagine Omega is pleased with having their name on a cheaply made watch. Inexpensive watches are great but this is a cheaply made toy which ultimately is harmless until you see people paying absurd prices to attain one
@@johndobbs300oh, trust me, they're pleased as their sales have probably increased and people who didn't even know Omega now know what the speedmaster is and consider it a luxury watch. The Swatch group did a great job, let's remember that the speedmaster only few years ago could be sold at around $2000 and now, after years of good marketing, can be sold at $6000. So trust me, Omega is more than happy. ;)
Well it just make me happy to see the sneakers flippers to queue for hours to waist their money on a cheap plastic watch. I love it. Thank you, Swatch-Omega.
I’m a sneaker head and probably look like some of those but been collecting watches for almost 20 years from swatch to seiko to Patek, unfortunately it’s hard to tell as sneakers and watches go hand in hand
100% agree with all your comments in this video. Thanks for sharing It was clever publicity and marketing stunt last year to cast shadow over watches and wonders. And like it or not, it created a buzz and engaged with a wider audience This launch makes no sense. Lost opportunity to be far more creative, rather than focus on any precious metal elements with a Moonswatch. Don’t see how this will create excitement and do anything other than backfire. New colour and dial variants was the minimum bar for the sequel. A Seamaster colab could’ve been interesting
If I could just walk in to a Swatch boutique or visit their website to purchase a MoonSwatch for around $150 USD, I would think these are awesome. The scalping, limited availability, and even the retail price are a joke. Always wanted a Speedmaster and until I can afford one, this would have been a cool little taste but I would never pay even $300 for one.. lol Great video as always, Adrian! Cheers!
Get yourself a Bulova lunar pilot mate. I just got one of the new smaller no date ones.. they are great. Quartz yes i know but so is the moonswatch.. also there is an off white and blue dialled one. You get a bracelet and a leather nato with each one too.. for approx £500
I was thinking the same thing. Until I went into a Swatch store and saw an actual MoonSwatch in real life. I left not being very impressed, so I wait till I can afford the real Moonwatch.
if i may, buy yourself a Seiko SSC911P1 instead, great technology and you will feel like you are wearing a Daytona. costs about twice as a MoonSwatch but you get 500% more value.
Agree. Theyre openly stating that these watches are not limited (moonshine is), so why force us to line up in a store to get it which just makes scalpers swoop? In AUS, there are only a handful of stores, close to 500 dollars and what do you get for that? "bIoCeRaMiC" that breaks.
@@complicatedtime you pay double for Daytona because that's the cost of skipping the line. Nothing like moonwatch plastic kid watches. Rolex are essentially bullion. Anywhere in earth you can sell it quick if your in a jam
I took the opportunity to go to one of the stores while every flipper was at the launch of the Moonshine - managed to score a Mission to Moon with no queues or hassle…
@SaintWill Next you'll tell me the sky is blue and the sun is hot. McDonalds food is crap, but I still like a good Quarter Pounder with Cheese. At no point do I think McDonalds food is good: either health or otherwise. Sometimes watches can be fun. Sometimes they don't need to be serious.
I bought a mission to mercury a couple weeks ago now as I saw them on a display at my local mall. (Still available except Moon and Mercury, I got the last one). I bought it as a memory of how well I'm doing in life currently and how my life is shifting. I have always loved Omega and particularly the speedmaster since I was quite young. I watched so many reviews on the watch and yours almost a year ago. The watch is a cheap build, can find 100s of better chronos for the better price in every aspect. But this watch has really solidified my goals and given me a great memory when I look down at my wrist, this may be an expensive swatch or a cheap omega in some eyes. This watch has reassured me I will have a real Omega some day and will always be a great memory of my first watch when life has been going well. Thanks for the great review and a zero BS approach to your videos!
Another great video Adrian. The content just gets better a better. I too love Omega and Tag. A real shame as I first wanted one of these and no way parting with my well earned cash. A well trusted watch expert on RU-vid. Looking forward to the next one
I was suckered into the whole Omega Swatch thing when they first came out, but couldn't secure one in my local shop as I hadn't anticipated the sheer amount of individuals who also turned up that fateful morning to purchase one. Glad I didn't get one. I now have a perfect copy, purchased online from China which cost me twenty English pounds including postage.
Perfect? does the dial at 2 run when the chronograph isn't running? if it does then it doesn't function as it should. On all the fakes I've seen the dial at 2 runs continuously as a 24 hr dial, I've not seen any fakes that function as the real one does.
I went to Oxford Street to meet a friend and saw the queue outside. I assumed they have it in stock and thought I might try my luck and see if I could get one for my husband , who is a watch enthusiast. There was fighting, punches thrown, police called, blood drawn, I was followed by some thugs . It was a nightmare. I did manage to get mission to Mercury but I hate the way swatch have limited the stores selling it.
Remember in 'A Christmas Story' when Ralphie decodes the secret message and it just says 'be sure to drink your Ovaltine.' Yeah that's pretty much what this feels like.
@@mijnnaamisaaron Not for sale I'm afraid. But maybe when the next full moon comes out I may be willing to sell it to you for the very reasonable sum of £3000! 😂
I had four swatches over like thirty years, and they all served me well. Standard 1988 Swatch, which was stolen from me, Irony Chronograph, Automatic Silver Class, and ElectricZero2 Digital watch. I want to buy one of the Moonswatch but they made it to hard to bother. I think I wll go for one of the Sistem 51 and Skin Irony next which is kinda more why I like Swatch.
This is how I feel about the flipper hustle. I used to LOVE the Chronometre Blue. Now, I would feel like a chump wearing it even at 2017 prices. I won't wait for a rap lyric about FP because I'm sure there's one already out there or in the works. I hope this new Moonwatch fixed the pusher or the stain issue. I like the watch it's fun. They could use a better strap. Maybe just silicon?
I managed to get a mission to Jupiter last year (it is crap….but fun). I wanted to buy a couple more of them and patiently waited for them to go online….as they said they would…..still waiting. I’ve always been a swatch fan, always picking up an olympics model when they come out. This whole limited supply and store only bullshit has put me off the entire brand to the point I’m now starting to sell off all my collection of swatch watches. It’s a real shame how the brand has turned around and stuck tow fingers up at loyal fans in the pursuit of hype.
Try D H gate, do your research, look at reviews and I bet you can get the whole Mission range for under two hundred dollars/sterling, and the reviews so far are that these are near perfect copies. I have the Mission to Pluto, cost me £20 and I've had it side by side with the genuine one, only the strap gives it away, the watch itself is near perfect copy.
sounds dump to sell a brand collection from their heyday because of current production........have you not heard of the concept of appreciation for vintage/classics that are perceived to be better built than their successors. SOunds like youre letting fanboy emotions control you finances. (kudos to you if you got it like that)
Brilliantly summed up. Also I appreciate your honest marketing for the B&J watch straps "If Omega are going to make some money I might as well make some money as well.."
The more I think about this, the more I wonder if Omega & Swatch did this specifically to sell to resellers, and not necessarily so they could sell them on if you know what I mean 😄. They knew the resellers would swarm this limited release, but most watch geeks would probably pass on this exercise in stupidity. There's a ton on eBay for ridiculous prices that aren't moving, so I really pray we see a bunch of these resellers stuck with watches they had to wait in the cold for, and have no interest in owning. I can only hope!
Thank you for your honest review. I have been on the fence about buying one of these but your review is the nail in the coffin and confirms these are toy novelty watches. As you mention, the Gshock you bought last week at half the price is way better and will last much longer. You just saved me £300, thank you
The mere fact a rolex vassal is paying attention to it is already proof the marketing is working. Even after he ranted on it last time. Just can't get enough huh?😂
There is absolutely no excuse for the shoddy manufacturing. Particularly when the availability is so limited. Thank you for the timely reminder to purchase a new G-Shock 😂
Not a fan of the new moonswatch but i think what they're doing is genius. It's not too different from the sneaker culture approach, and ultimately the hype is getting more and more people into watches - which is a good thing!
This is the most positive way to look at, and if I was part of Omega or swatch I would consider it a massive success. I have a lot of criticisms over the way they failed to offer it online, purposefully encouraging flipping. And the product itself is overpriced for what you get, so I hope it does not turn people off of buying watches. That said, it was a genius marketing move by Omega and Swatch.
Wow. I like your video here. I’ve been critical of your position in the past - and jump to comment section 90 seconds into your video, then continue watching and you cover all the points I felt you were tiptoeing around. Then I delete my comment after you make the point I felt I would have made. Bingo!! Great work.
It’s certainly very expensive for what it is; but I think it’s brilliant! If you are a speedmaster owner (or any other premium brand), you might feel more comfortable using this as a substitute when traveling or during certain activities in the weekend (beach, sport, etc.). I personally wear a swatch when I go to the beach, always hated the Casios. I might buy one of these
@@tommiel6740 If you don’t mind damaging it or don’t bother having it stolen, good for you. But at that budget, you have plenty of options that are more sexy.
I wanted to buy one of these when I thought they would be available online. I have pretty much lost interest in this watch. I am wearing my Omega Aqua terra annual calendar. This watch can be my one and done. Great video you are spot on .
I don't own one but I absolutely love the Moonswatch concept and fun cross-marketing... it's an affordable licenced watch that pays tribute to one of the most iconic pieces ever produced, which elevates the Omega Speedmaster and puts it on the map for a lot of non-watch enthusiasts in my opinion. Clearly not common in the watch industry, but a really cool and successful concept in other sectors. The whole moonswatch makes me want the original Speedmaster even more.
Exactly but these tiny noisy minority think they are the ENTIRE watch market. And think they know everything. The mere fact that there are long lines and a Rolex fanboy pays attention to it, is proof the marketing is working.
@Mega It's okay to hate after am unsuccessful attempt to obtain one; many people despise Rolex until they ultimately get one. But it makes no sense to give a fun cheap watch (priced accordingly) such a hard time when it's just building a fun industry. Swatch doubled their sales with a single watch model, that's brilliant. Why talk negatively about milking something when the content creators capitalise on the same hype and benefit of the Rolex/Omega RU-vid algorithm. Let us just be happy and lighthearted.
@@ericksonpereira7443 correct again! Very level intelligent thinking on your part! Agreed! It's priced like a toy and shouldn't be taken seriously at all. Not more expensive than a handbag nowadays...ppl are just ranting with pre conceived hatred and biases. Swatch has the numbers, don't think these ranters have access to those. As for rolex.. that's another story hahaha I do have them but am not a fan anymore .. but that's a whole different story again. Best regards
I like Omega as a brand but I wouldn't pay more than £25 for this plastic quartz watch. Even then I would probably be thinking I should have spent the £25 on a Casio.
I completely agree. Had they put the gold second hand on the Mercury or the Neptune, at least the final product would be something visually stunning despite the disappointment of the fact that Omega/Swatch decided to put essentially zero effort into this release. Instead we got something that they had to use torches to prove that it was even different!
This is why many are moving on to Grand Seiko because people want this hobby to be a relaxing activity not to waitlist for 5 years or to queue for hours.
Purchased the Bulova Lunar Pilot for around the same price as the Swatch MoonsWatch…there is no comparison! People are crazy to buy into this hype! I've owned 3 Omegas, and I only regret the selling of one, The Bond Seamaster. I'll stick with my Lunar Pilot which I know will be working just fine ten years from now, just my humble opinion. Great video.
great video Adrian! you were spot on. my thought were the original Moonswatch release were actually something that is cool and a breakthrough for the brand. but this one is just ridiculous. IF they did put the gold hands on the ORIGINAL 3861 speedmaster to celebrate the full moon(as they call it) then that for me is something special and i would pay for it just because the original speedmaster itself is a great piece. to swatch group, this is a success for them, to us as watch geek, its honestly a failure and just shows they are only now looking for dollar bills!
You hit the nail on the head. This is supposed to be a fun watch. The original idea was great - truly disruptive. And I actually quite like them. This update would have been a nice addition to the range. But a special edition? With the silly “made during a full moon” story? All rather cynical and underwhelming. Shame really. Could have been terrific… 😕
Agree (sort of) - the idea maybe is a good one but ... Come on, $300 for a plastic watch with a cheap quartz movement and nylon instead of proper crystal? Yep, Apple fans (like me) are cash cows as well but at least we get something with high quality. This is too ugly by any taste. I will be happy to buy for way too more money Breitling Endurance instead of this sh*t - at least Breitling doesn't use other brand to sell crap.
@@theguild42 I think you’re probably right. On paper it isn’t a great watch. But I do kind of like them. I know it doesn’t really make any logical sense…but I could probably say that about most of my watches 😂 It’s all getting a bit silly isn’t it?
@@adamk8451 I fully understand you . The watches should be fun and bring joy :) ... but we started to take everything so seriously. I am really pissed off because they can add (at least) some lube in the s**ual abuse :) I really wanted to get the whole collection (these fresh colors are great) but when I saw few reviews ... Scratches on the watch from the box itself - that's the way to say directly: "We don't care what you get, we care only to get your money"
When the MoonSwatch was released, I owned six Omega watches and proudly wore a my Speedmaster 105.012-66 while queuing with lots of other Omega fanboys (unsuccessfully) for a MoonSwatch. Every time I walk by a Swatch store and see queues of flippers camped out waiting for new stock that I am unable to purchase myself (without waiting for hours in a long queue the with flippers), my loyalty to the brand diminishes. Today I own only four Omegas. Next year?
This is BRILLIANT marketing Adrian. How many watch companies out there thought of putting on a gold plated seconds hand on a chronograph? There you have it. I would love to have a gold plated second hand on my 3861 Moon Watch!
He would never admit to it. Even if the figures speak otherwise. Only a bunch of Tiny noisy minority ranting. The mere fact that they're sold out is proof.. flippers or whatever you call them. Swatch group themselves know the real numbers, they know they sell.
I almost felt for one. I was in NYC, and I stopped by the Swatch store. There were many of them except that gold moonwatch. Since they had so many, I thought that most of them were sold out originally, so I passed on getting one in the rush. The watch price of $300 for Swatch did not sound right; even Omega's name was on it. Maybe because of the color scheme, I did was not fond of it. Now I saw this video and am glad I did not get one. Thank you for this video. You got another subscriber.
I waited in line for 6 hours in Tokyo to buy it. I didn't intend to sell it because I like watches, but I was so disappointed with the content and I didn't want it. I confess that I sold it because I didn't want to waste the time i spent with the long queue. I feel a little guilty, but I'm going to buy myself a new watch with the profits😂
I like the gold pointer. If the pushers weren't so crappy, I'd love to have a watch like that. Also, Omega isn't about positive coverage at all. The worst thing would be if it wasn't reported at all. And young people like hypes, whether it's sneakers, bags or watches. So, everything done right.
@@BarkandJack 100% I got mine by just wandering into the store and asking one day. Occasionally I pop back in and see if they have the one my friend is looking for. Edit: for clarity I was directing my comment more at the negative comments here, not your take, which I broadly agree with.
I understand the side hustle of the flippers that lined up and sold right after they bought it, you gotta try and make money. It just sucks that watch nerds like myself cannot get them at retail or even at all because they are all sold out. Great video!
I remember you were the first person in the watch space to call out the first moonswatch as being crap. I bought one anyway and it’s crap. I think about the £270 and what I could have bought instead. Two gshocks. A SEIKO skx007 preowned and a seiko5! Citizen prodiver. Still it’s fun to wear but whenever I put it on I just think of what could have been and how I too got caught in the con
I'd save my money and buy the new 43mm Bulova Lunar Pilot. I have the 45mm which is a cracking watch. I can just about pull it off on my 7.1 inch wrist. The 43mm is the same dimensions as the original that went to the Moon. I like having watches in the original size and it would be more comfortable fit. There's even a Snoopy variant. I would rather have this in my collection ahead of a Moon swatch any day of the week.
Brilliant! If I had a product I knew it will sell thousands and thousands of times at a premium price... Who can really argue about a company being... a company. No one needs to buy a watch period, we collectors acquire things for private and very subjective reasons. Is ok, our money. Again a very well done video, Cheers. Miguel
Underwhelming is the current description of it on Instagram anyway. I have to agree, and although a few weeks ago I was on board with perhaps looking at getting a Moonswatch ( a pending visit to a European capital). At the store price your over 2/3 of the way to a quartz PRX, bit of a no brainer if your after a Swiss brand with history. Oh yeah that ones made of steel too.
I love swatch and have lots of 41mm new gents and a few 34mm originals from the 80’s. Not got on board at all with the moon swatch. It’s all about the original designs for me from both omega and swatch.
Amazing Adrian, I watched a lot of videos on this release and you nailed it. A fun watch but, after all this hype just left me with a bad taste... and yes I have 3 G-Shocks that give me as much fun but, I don't have to worry about glue anything back LOL . Thanks again Adrian. Best
I dropped by the event on the quick after I finished work. It just made me sad 😢 Monumental failure - majority of the line clearly were not there to buy the watch for themselves as you mentioned. I didn’t hang around for long, did not feel particularly safe wearing my overseas and seeing some of the crowd in that line (literally saw people wearing balaclavas, it was like I stepped into a UK drill music video)
