The lyrics are about drug addiction, something Clapton knew quite well. As he explained in his autobiography Clapton, when he recorded this song, he had kicked a serious heroin habit but was filling his body with cocaine and alcohol. His attitude at the time was that he could manage his addiction and quit at any time - he just didn't want to; that's why he could sing so objectively about a drug that was consuming him. When he finally did get off drugs and alcohol, he had to learn how to make music while sober, which was a big transition because everything sounded very rough to him. He also realized how damaging his addiction was to himself and others on a personal level, and became active in helping others get through their addictions; in 1998 he opened the Crossroads rehab center in Antigua, where clients go through a 29-day wellness-centered approach to treatment.

Remember when you did Cream last week, Eric Clapton was the guitarist. He was also a guitarist for The Yardbirds for whil, then he recommended Jimmy Page. Jimmy eventually became the guitarist for Led Zeppelin.

Eric Clapton is an English rock & blues guitarist, singer & songwriter. He is considered one of the best guitarists in the world & has had a great career in music. He was with many great groups before going solo. The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos. He has had a lot of solo hits such as "Layla", "I Shot The Sheriff", "Tears In Heaven", "Change The World", "My Father's Eyes", "Wonderful Tonight", "Cocaine", "Lay Down Sally" & many more.

This song, written by JJ Cale, is a sarcastic take on the drug. Since you're interested in Eric, his work is best sampled live. If you're blown away by his studio guitar work, you'll be over the moon by his live versions, where he really makes those solos take on a life of their own.

Clapton is the reason I ever picked up a guitar. The original version of this song by J.J. CALE is more bluesy and laid back but a great version as well. I saw Clapton 7 times and every show was great. He did not need all the fancy lights. When a man is this great you just enjoy his performance. I loved cocaine but it led me to a crack habit for 7 years. I have been clean for 30 years. Thank God and a wonderful judge in Medina, Ohio court. Judge Judeth Cross I thank you for saving my life.

Try Eric Clapton’s live, 1999, Madison Square Madison, “Old Love”. Live, 2004, Crossroads Concert, “I Shot the Sheriff”. Also, “Double Trouble”, 2008, Madison Square Garden, with Steve Winwood. Personally, though I like Jackson Brown, I never thought his version of Cocaine was a very good one. And I preferred lyrics closer to original more than the ones he and Glenn Frey added. I thought the singing lacked the feeling that the covers by Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, Keith Richard's, and the original by Reverend Gary Davis brought to the song.

"I never thought I would dance to a song named 'Cocaine'" ROFLMAO! There's no doubt that it's just bizarre that a song about cocaine could be this good. But that also applies to Metallica's "Master Of Puppets," doesn't it?

Cale wrote it because of I believe it with his son's addiction any also has a rehab that he runs called Crossroads. Check out j.j. Cale he does after midnight and call me to breathe with Clapton on one RU-vid thing it's really good he's a slower singer. You guys have already reacted before to Lynyrd Skynyrd call me the breeze. Although he had an excellent band of musicians, in '98, their presentation was far too polished, sterile and almost, Vegas. The encore featured Cream's, Sunshine of Your Love, which was especially excruciating! 2 keyboardists, one playing cheesy, synth strings, going through the motions with that famous riff👎For myself, the best part of the show was his mid-point, solo set. Bonnie's band featured a couple of ringer, session aces; keys monster, Jon Cleary & slide specialist, Rick Vitto...their set blew Clapton's away❗The 25th Anniversary Tour, was easily, the best of the 3, for me...it was cool, seeing Patti Boyd, sitting offstage, during his laidback, Slowhand show. ☆ I won't publicly detail my issues with some of his recent, media antics, but like his former musician friend, the great, Robert Cray, I've lost a lot of respect for him as a person.

His underaged mother became pregnant, avoiding family scandal, he was raised, believing his grandparents were his parents, his mother, his sister. Clapton meant this as an anti-cocaine song but it had the opposite effect in the mid 80's when certain elements in my battalion in the Marine Corps lured me out behind the enlisted club to do a few lines off the hood of someone's car and walking back in the club and sitting back at the table and sipping on my rum and coke, heartrate pounding in my chest as the devil's demons agged me on to the sound of Clapton's down and dirty guitar solo, seeming to say: "Come on! Hit up another line! You know you want it!" What a young fool I was messing with that stuff until by morning, i forgot what party I was at. ThankYou Lord for not letting me lose my life to that stuff! "She don't lie"?? No, that high is an ABSOLUTE lie !
