I am pretty sure it was played as his casket was being carried from the church after the service. One of the most sad and heartbreaking things I have seen.
I still remember when i saw it in the news. I was very young and didnt understand why a rockstar would kill himself... our minds are the only things that allows to keep walking.
I’ll never forget when I saw this song performed live. The whole audience was waiting for that sax solo. As it approached Kirk Pengilly, dressed in a white suit, ran across the stage and up a ramp and just as he reached the top the spotlight hit him as he arched his back and lifted the saxophone and played that spirit soaring extraordinary first note. That concert was about 30 years ago and it is a moment I have never forgotten 😎
The sax player is Kirk Pengilly. He is also the second guitarist and major contributor to the backing vocals. No one in that band was a slacker, everyone multitasked. Also, I can pretty much guarantee you that you will NOT find a song you don't like. They didn't make any bad music, zero. You have been initiated. It's time for some live INXS. I would start with What You Need, live at Wembley in 91.
Please, keep going down this rabbit hole! "Need You Tonight" is perhaps their best known song, and you'll love it. "Suicide Blonde" is also killer, as is their first ever single in the US, "The One Thing". Michael Hutchence is the GOAT!
Just note, if you do "Need You Tonight" by INXS, find the version that's combined with "Mediate" after it, or queue up Mediate to play immediately afterwards.
That was an extremely moving moment, Michael Hutchence was immense, such a wonderful front man, singer and writer, gone way to soon, he was simply superb.👍🇬🇧👍
idk why many people always talking about inxs or michael like if they was an unknown band hahaha i don't lived the eighties i was born in 1988, but i always heard about inxs since was a kid, like i heard about many great bands, but obviously, not like the beatles, stones or pink floyd, etc...Michael is a legend and for me: Never Tear Us Apart is one of the five most beautiful songs of all time. And i really like Don't Change and Beautiful Girl too.
Keep the INX coming. Very under rated band. One of my favorite less known songs by them is "The Stairs." It's basically about two people that their entire relationship happens on the staircase of their building. But it can be taken in other ways as well.
@@eviekelpie1 Maybe they weren't underrated in Australia but here in the states they only briefly achieved the level of fame that they deserved. They had one HUGE album here in the states, Kick, and a few random songs that were hits everyone would have heard. Not just INXS fans. During the "Kick" fame period, they could sell out Madison Square Garden. Any other time they played places like Radio City Music Hall which is like half the size of the Garden or less. See, underrated means not that they weren't popular or good. It means that they were better than they got credit for. So it is not a put down at all what I said but a compliment.
Yes more INXS! Check out some of their early stuff too like "The One Thing", "Original Sin", "Don't Change" (a personal fave) and so many others later..."By My Side", "Suicide Blonde" (killer harmonica guitar and drums and a little bit of sax 🎷), "Kick" (surprise in there 😛), "Beautiful Girl (piano + great msg), "What You Need", Kiss The Dirt", "Devil Inside", "Need You Tonight / "Mediate" (combo video is awesome), "Disappear", "The Stairs".
Maybe the most underrated band of all time... and cut down in their prime. I often get sad over all the brilliant music we will never hear from this incredible group of Australian musicians. RIP, MH.
@@rayjay5836 They certainly WERE underrated in my native UK. Apart from 'Need You Tonight' (which got to No2 on rerelease), none of their great singles ever got anywhere near the Top Ten. To my mind, that is criminal. In my own humble opinion, they SHOULD have been far more successful than they actually were.
Typing through the tears 😢😥😢 This was our song. I lost my beautiful husband of 25 yrs just 10 months ago in a horrid car accident 💔💔💔 I MISS HIM TERRIBLY 🙏 #TwoWorldsCollided
Cindy - Im so sorry for your loss...that is truely terrible. We were def spoiled in our Australian music in the 1980's. INXS was the first album my husband bought me, and we've been married for 31. Im so sorry for your loss...really, I cant imagine my life without mine, and the history we created together.
I was so heartbroken when Michael Hutchence passed. He had many a teenage girls hearts with his whole vibe. That voice was so smooth and the band was just so much fun. I saw them during the Kick Tour and they were incredible.
I went down a rabbit hole of hutchence & INXS one day; watched the last interview he did on the Rosie O'Donnell show & there was seemingly so much pain in his eyes & voice
I was one of them. A fifteen-year-old girl who absolutely adored him back in the late 80s, OMG! I had the magazines and the posters, it was crazy!!!!!!!!!!
An absolutely brilliant, anthemic ballad. The “Kick” album was an earth shaking force in 1987. I still shake a little every time I hear that saxophone.
One of their most underrated songs that happens to be a top favorite of mine, as their first international hit, and it's called "Don't Change". It's off their 3rd album. Definitely give it a listen.
Few losses have ever hit me so hard as Michael's death. Kick was the first album I ever bought with my own money and it remains one of the most perfect albums ever. INXS were just such a gorgeous flash of perfection.
Yes! Such a good song, been waiting for this one. INXS has so many good songs and I know you have done a few of them already. Beautiful Girl is also a very good one
"Two worlds collided..." This song came out when I was in college and those three words always remind me of a relationship that I had back then. Every time I hear this song, it is instantly 1988 again. I love the Old World, European vibe of this video. Filmed in Prague, back when the country of Czechoslovakia still existed.
Amber if you want sax another great Aussie band is Icehouse. Their song Don't Believe Anymore is definitely worth a listen. Love the channel. Greetings from Australia 😍
I've been AWOL for a while. Had major surgery and spent about 3 weeks recuperating. Finally back home to my computer and the first song I hear is INXS!! Doesn't get any better. It will take me a while to catch up on all I've missed, but I will get it done. Thanks, guys!
Hi guys, I went to high school with Michael Hutchins and the Farris brothers from INXS (Before their fame) in the 80s in the Northern suburbs of Sydney Australia. It was cool seeing them jamming in the school hall, when they were just a group of school “Musos” they were cools dudes at school as well! 😅
Great react. INXS was a great band RIP Michael. Gone too soon If you like sax you have to listen more Supertramp. My Kind of Lady has an amazing sax solo
I was a kid when this came out and I never even gave it a second glance but seeing this reaction as an adult with a different outlook and taste in music made me add this to my “favorites only” playlist 💚💚💚
You need to check out The Lost Boys soundtrack. The original movie soundtrack had great music on it. The one to listen to hear a saxaphone is "I Still Believe".
My favorite INXS song. A couple of suggestions for Female Friday. Jewel "You were meant for me", "Foolish games" or "Hands" were some good ones. And Amy Grant "Baby Baby" and "I will remember you" which is my favorite.
I love and miss Michael’s music so much 😣 Never Tear Us Apart has so much emotion and rawness to it!! He will be missed dearly by the INXS fans all over the world!! 🫶🏼💔
The one thing about INXS is that they never disappoint. Just when you think you know them, they come out with this song. I was waiting for reaction when the sax came in. Love you two, you also never disappoint.
I don't know if anybody told you on here. Did you know that they're actually Australian? And there is an Australian rules football team that use that as their anthem. The whole stadium will sing never tear us apart
I'm currently watching the Beatles "Get Back" series ,it's fascinating to see their creative process , Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss operated in a similar way . Michael was a talented poet , he was always writing and refining lyrics and stories , then Andrew and the others would write the music to suit. When you see this kind of synergy happening , that's when magic happens and the world ends up with some incredible , timeless music and lyrics. Best ever Aussie band IMHO.
One of the best things about INXS is that what you heard on the radio, tv, or cassette is what you heard live. No one sounded like a winded Darth Vader. I saw them live three times, starting in 1984 when they opened for the GoGos, who are okay. I was there for INXS, and they did not disappoint. I guess I'm the odd man out, because my favorite INXS albums are The Swing and Listen Like Thieves. I love them equally, so don't ask me to choose.
Glad to hear you give props to the Legendary “Big Man” Clarence Clemons! Y’all need to get back to some Springsteen soon. Check out Jungleland! Clarence’s sax 🎷 solo on that track, particularly a live version, is AMAZING. You’ll be SHOOK!
Jungleland has the BEST sax solo ever. I've been listening to it for decades now and it never fails to give me goosebumps and make me cry. Jake is lovely and all, but the Big Man was the best. Even in collabs with others you can always hear when it's him/his sax.
You need to watch INXS and Jimmy Barnes - Good Times. Jimmy is an Australian icon. If you want hype from violins, watch Bond - Korabushka live in London and the Royal Albert Hall. Again, Best Sax and Guitar is Lily Was Here - Candy Dulfer on sax and Dave Stewart from Eurythmics on guitar
Your reactions when the sax came in,was priceless 😂😂😂😂😂 more awesome inxs songs are suicide blonde, devil inside & good times with Jimmy Barnes is amazing,it's rocks & has awesome piano in it 🤘🎸🔥🤘🎸🔥🤘🎸🔥 💖💖💖Yas from 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
I still can't believe you guys haven't reacted to the music video "Need You Tonight" by INXS. It was the Number 1 hit on the Billboard Chart in 1988, and won five MTV Video Music Awards including 1988 Video of The Year. It was ranked Number 21 on MTV's countdown of the 100 greatest videos of all time. The song is also referred to as INXS' defining song. Be careful Jay... Amber might catch a "ManCrush" on Michael Hutchins, the singer. (Sidenote: I actually went to the INXS concert at Texas Stadium in 1989. Guns and Roses opened for them. Killer concert!!!!! Keep up the great work guys! TMC
@Grant Roberts Thank yew four korrekting m-eye spelling Grunt Roburts. It's fukkin dik heds like yoo that hellp thee rest of us under stand a pursuns last name. Once again, Grunt "Captain Asslick" Roburts saves the day!
The bass guitar tends to be what connects all of the other instruments together. Garry Gary Beers was the Bassist for INXS and he is criminally underrated IMO.
Instant flashback to the late 80's college scene. This song was everywhere, all the clubs playing it, radio stations, MTV... INXS was on top of the world at the time..there is so much more of their catalog to dig into..
Andrew Farriss said that of all the 1000's of gigs the boys performed the 2 most incredible gigs for energy were Wembley in front of 75000 in July 1991, the other.................................................October 1988 in their hometown of Sydney at the Sydney Entcent in front of 14000, first gig at home after the massive 'KICK' tour of the USA --- I was at the latter....the energy was so massive my mate's girlfriend cried all night......MH was wearing black PVC pants, stalking the stage like ablack panther.............DAMNED EPIC
INXS did an amazing cover of an Easybeats song Good Times. Easybeats were the band of George Young, brother of Angus and Malcolm Young. George produced the first 6 AC/DC albums.
# 1 wedding song for years! INXS is also such a unique sound, musically they really pack a punch. Those guitar riffs and the orchestrations. Amber - drama, you're talking about the drama in the song! Andrew came up with the musical ideas and then Michael would fit the lyrics into it. I miss these guys so much. 😪
Your right, I played a lot of weddings in the early 90’s and this was the most popular song for the bridal waltz followed by “Unchained Melody” and “I’ll be watching you”.
You two are the cutest -- and I LOVE your reactions, especially to this band, which has been my favorite since discovering them back in 1983! The sax player is Kirk Pengilly. He's a very talented, multi-instrumentalist. Honestly, all the boys are. Andrew Farriss (main composer, keyboardist & backing vocals) & Michael Hutchence (lyricist, vocals) wrote most of their songs. They were an amazing song writing team. In addition, Tim Farriss (lead guitarist), Jon Farriss (drums) and Garry Gary Beers (bass) have all earned industry respect for being legends, too. Once you've had your first reactions to their main songs, I'd love to see your first reaction to the video of their Wembley 1991 concert. Thank you for your shows! 🤩
As soon as I saw the song, I knew Amber would be smilin'. I bought my daughter an INXS cassette when she was in high school. I was all excited to give it to her because it had this ong on it. I handed her the cassette and said, "Look! It's Inks". If you could hear eyes roll, the world could've heard them. Jordan, you made laugh when you talked about trying to figure out how to pronounce their name. lol My favorite of their music catalog. Thanks for your reaction, guys. Loved it. Take care and be well. Peace.
Kirk Pengilly is the saxophonist and guitarist. You should watch footage of them playing live. They were known for sounding so good live that people doubted their abilities.
80s had plenty of artists with horns. They practiced safe sax. INXS has elements that remind me of the Rolling Stones. Michael's swagger and vocal is similar. Like more soulful version of the Stones.
This band was very under rated. Their lyrics make the hairs on your neck stand. This particular song touches really deep. People love each other, break up, marry others, but that immense love they felt for each other never dies.
I was staying in Hong Kong's Mid-Levels neighborhood near Michael Hutchence's house just recently. My RU-vid feed was being flooded with INXS vids, particularly Never Tear Us Apart. It made me start listening to them again fondly remembering how beautiful this song is.
Billy Joel's song I"m in a New York state of mind has epic piano and sax. Please give it a listen. Also for female Fridays Linda Ronstadt's Long, long time is a must listen. Thanks for great reactions, smiles (given and received) and may God bless you and your beautiful family.
I’m getting a real kick out of how much you guys are loving INXS. When Kirk Pengilly started wailing on the sax, I swear Amber Girl, you felt that everywhere! My teen years were in the 80’s and hands down INXS ruled my world. I’ve seen them at least 10 times in concert and their live shows were absolutely incredible. Michael Hutchence was a front man force to be reckoned with, he owned every inch of that stage. There will never be another voice like his, or a band like theirs. Now, treat yourself to Devil Inside 😈😈😈
Yesssssss finally lol!! Gorgeous song. Gorgeous man 😝 Oh they were soooo good!!! 👌🏼👌🏼This was fun to watch you react to. Soooooo great! Sidenote: shot in Prague. Been there. Would go again. 👍🏼
That's music¡¡¡¡¡¡ using real nice instruments. Each instrument shines on its perfect timing in this song, even the chorus and of course Michael's lead vocals. INXS is just pure quality
