Like one of your other viewers, I placed clear fishing line between the halves and hung the dragon from a popsicle stick suspended across the top. Works like a charm and would eliminate some of your steps.

He’s cute, I like the mica colors you used. You could try using UV resin to attached his bottom to a popsicle stick, that would hold him suspended on the rim. The stick will just pop off with a little pull. Also using a deep pour resin would eliminate the witness line. Most deep pours take 3 days to cure which allows time for the bubbles to release. Great job thinking outside the box!

I never thought of spraying alcohol for bubbles. Now I am a newbie but thank you like maybe a month into this hobby. It does have a very steap learning curve but is a lot of fun. Im going to try that my next project, because my biggest battles are the air bubbles that line the mold. 😊😊

To help with micro bubbles, place your resin & hardener in nice warm water before mixing together. The heat lowers the viscosity & thins both liquids, so when combined & stirred you get less bubbles & it’s totally safe to do 😉
@resinnut9335
@resinnut9335 Год назад
Yes, I agree. I always start with warm resin too! That particular resin that I was using is prone to bubbles. I'm having fun trying some different brands. Thank you this is good information that I should bring up next time I have bubble issues

Jdiction is my resin of choice. I used to use a resin that had all the micro bubbles in it and I could never get it clear no matter what i did. Jdiction is 1:1 and it degasses so incredibly quickly and easily. perfect crystal clarity.

I use a vacuum chamber to remove bubbles and then I used a clear wire like fishing line hooked around him to hold him in the right position. It was a little slippery at first getting thr line to stay on him but it only took about 5 minutes to get him right. I had already poured half the resin in the egg. I tied the line to a skewer and had it on a stand above the egg and poured the rest of the resin down the line. I didn't get enough resin in initially so I did have to pour a little more the next day but that was my fault. Yours looks good and very adorable! I think the baby is too dang cute!

Your Dragon is definitely cute 😍. As you were working out, the best way to secure him, inside the egg, I was thinking a small dab of UV resin, placed on his head, then use the UV Torch/lamp to harden it. This may prevent the issue in regards to the join lines and you could pour in one go. With the egg standing upright. Otherwise I think it turned out great ♥️💐

That mold was a nightmare for me as well. Many, many attempts and fails. I finally used fishing line and found the center, glued the fishing line on the baby and adhered it to the egg so that it wouldn't sink down. It stayed suspended and didn't tilt forward. You do great work.
@resinnut9335
@resinnut9335 Год назад
The fishing line is a great idea, too! I thought about trying something similar, but then it was so easy to just lay it sideways. I'm always looking for the easiest way to get "decent" results. Doesn't have to be perfect.. but at the least.. decent! haha. ❤️

@resinnut9335
@resinnut9335 Год назад
Hi Denise! Your question is not stupid at all ❤️. The reason it's way easier is because the way the mold is made to be used makes it really difficult. The mold is made to stand up on one end. Some people (me included) struggled with getting the dragon to sit in there correctly, upside down, so that it wpuld cure in place without tying or using an adhesive to "hang the dragon" inside the egg so that it would cure correctly in place. Did that make any sense at all? lol. Welcome to Resin, and there is a whole new world and type of adventure ahead! :)

I place a piece of cotton between the two halves of the dragon and wind it round a lolly stick. Foil base would hide thread tail.

Artist tip: A small piece of wire placed between the dragon halves coming out of the bottom can be used to suspend the baby . Especially if you're putting a base in the bottom of the egg. It won't be seen. Much simpler process.

Place one of those invisible threads in the bottom of the baby's rear end before you glue the 2 pieces together. Suspend the baby from the string with two crossed popsicle sticks from the top of the egg. The baby will hang perfectly and you can't see the thread in the resin. Not my idea, but it's what I am going to do when I make the project.

I recently started using a heat mat for my working surface. Bubbles can be a pain in the butt so I use this plastic tooth pic to help push some away from the silicone mold and up to the surface. I'll come back every 10 minutes to get rid of bubbles using a bbq lighter. But I guess the baby dragon egg will be a new experiences. I'm going to try and suspend the baby and maybe fill the egg up just past its head and wait for it to cure. I can get rid of whatever I'm using to suspend it after that. I'll probably do a couple more layers just to play it safe lol. Cool tip for the alcohol spray though, I've only used that for an effect with alcohol inks and silicone. Helped the silicone to make cells pop out onto the surface better.
