My mom passed in spring '75, i was 6. This song was a hit, always heard it on the radio in the car before she died; everytime I hear it, my heart bursts outta my chest with love and joy. God bless Mr. Croce, RIP. By the way I'm addicted to your reactions!!
I play "Lovers Cross", "I'll have to say i love you in a song", "Roller derby Queen", "Time in a Bottle", "Working at the carwash blues", "Rapid Roy", "Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" on the guitar. He died way to soon. :)
Jim Croce was one of my first favorite singers. Every song has a true story behind it. Leroy Brown was based on a guy in the army who thought he was bad news, and we'll, you see how that all worked out.
A truly gifted artist from years past. It's a shame he was only 30 years old when we lost this talent in a plane crash over 40 years go. He will be remembered by his music that will remain with us forever.
I grew up with that song still rocks me....Thats my type of music....Simple....good upbeat temp....Good story.....Easy to sing along too and understand.....Thats Music.
Sometimes you've heard a sing through your entire life, but don't know the artist or the proper title. You just have memories connected to the song. Yeah, India,I get your reaction 100%.
He is a brilliant storyteller and understands the human condition. Keep going and pick any song you find they are all great. Have a tissue close, Jim is gonna make you cry.
You are so adorable! I love seeing younger ones digging some of the music I grew up on. I'm glad you have such good taste in music. Keep it up baby girl and I will keep watching. Eva Cassidy never made it to the top but she was a phenomenal singer. My favorite is a jazzy version of Wayfaring Stranger. You should give her a listen... if she hadn't have died of cancer she would be a name you knew.
When you are a child and before you learn to like your own style, you often are raised on what your parents listen too. I am blessed that Jim was one of their favorites and I still own the same records my parents listened to.
Dont ever say sorry for a fond memory of your Grandpa that was very sweet and real .. love you Darlin always a pleasure stopping by to see what you been up to .. hugss be safe!
I love ALL your reactions :) Jim Croce is what my parents used to play on Saturday’s when we had to clean the house and do chores and my Dad would dance around with us - nothin but good memories with this album:) (not the chores lol just the music ;)
That's funny Saturday in the 70s was the big house cleaning day but no one was dancing with us. 6 kids and each girl had a chore except for my mother's precious son.
No matter how bad you are, there’s always somebody out there who has your number! I loved the look on your face when you recognized it from your child hood 😊
I wept real tears when Jim died in that plane crash. He was just about to go national on the radio. He had truly great lyrics and was part of "The Singer-Songwriter Revolution" on American radio. He was also charting during the transition of pop radio from long-reach AM (mono) to short reach FM (stereo). He wrote the best lyrics for a song called: Lover's Cross. That song moved me then, and moves me still. Thanks so much for this video. It means a lot to me. It was because of his lyrics that I started writing poetry.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! With this reaction you brought a much needed smile to my face. This is a song I grew up listening to. Loved your reaction when you recognized this song. Thanks again India for bringing some much needed joy!!
Croce is one of my all time favorites. Many knew him by his character songs - Leroy Brown, Roller Derby Queen, You Don't Mess Around with Jim..... Many knew him by his love songs - I'll have to say I love you in a song, Operator, Salon and Saloon, Photographs and Memories..... I just knew I loved his music. Thank you for this and keep them coming.
Jim Croce was a true troubadour Every song he did told a story and he did this better than most people could think of doing! "Operator" is one of my favorite Jim Croce songs and I would love to see you react to it!
India, I grew up listening and singing along with Jim. So nice to see his music is still being discovered and appreciated. Fun watching you chair dance to this great tune. Bet it would be fun taking you for a spin on the dance floor to this song.
I remember it was such a shock when I heard about Jim's death. He had hits with "Operator" and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" and "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" during his lifetime. The other hits came after his death with such songs as "I Got A Name" "I'll Have to Say I Love You In A Song" and "Working At the Car Wash Blues".
Croce,Chapin, and Cash( Love that you're rocking the shirt) the greatest storytellers in music. Jim Croce blessed the world with so many wonderful songs, both well known and obscure. I encourage you to explore more of this poetic genius.
The first song that ever caught my attention as a kid...Jim Croce, Bad Bad Leroy Brown. I must have been 4 or 5 when I first heard it, and I'd always dance around when my parents played it. Been a fan of Jim Croce (and music) ever since. When you kind of pulled back in recognition...I could see it! This has a place in your childhood too.
Can remember singing Jim Croce songs in music class in grade school, made a big fan out of me when I was in the 4th grade and at 58 I still am a fan of his music.
Jim Croce (Philly in the house!) is arguably one of the greatest singer/song writers in music history! Hearing his music takes me back to my childhood. My mother loved him so I heard his music often! Since the day my mom passed away, whenever I hear his music, it brings back great memories of my mom. It’s very comforting. His tragic death was a sad loss to the music industry as well as his fans. I loved seeing your enthusiastic response to this song! I’m looking forward to viewing your reactions in future videos.
I love watching reaction channels & seeing other people hear & react to songs that I love for one reason or another. Lately though I've started to realize a lot of the songs I've heard throughout my 45 years of life, especially from the 60's & 70's, but also some from the 80's, I've never actually really heard the words. I can hear this song as one playing in the background of my childhood, but it was just something I always heard & never listened to. Thank you for that.
I have been watching your reactions off and on for a while now but I have never seen such joy from you for one of the all time greats. You have assuredly earned my sub. Thank you :-)
That was priceless seeing you realize your grandpa jammed this song. I still have that album on vinyl. Killer album. Love Jom Croce. Legend gone way too soon.
Definitely need to do more Jim. Lovers cross Carwash blues One less set of footsteps I just had to say I love you Operator Don't Mess around with Jim Roller derby queen Rapid Roy
How bout 'Alabama Rain', 'These Dreams', 'Box #10', 'Photographs and Memories', 'New York's Not My Home', 'Careful Man', 'Next Time, This Time' and 'Age'?
During this flu lock down I have been binging on your reactions. I love that you explore music. I am a 70 yr old woman so I am not stalking you. I just want to know more about you. What state do you live in? Introduce us to your children. Are you out of t-pee. I think we are ready for a bit more of you. Not all at once but a bit more
When my son was born in '04...he wasn't having it with traditional lullabies. I started singing this one day walking around with him on my shoulder...it was like magic. From that point on...it worked every time. Great song....always one of my favorites!
Great job with this video! Thank you for pronouncing Jim's name correctly too! Your grampa had some great musical tastes and did a good job sharing it with you too!
I love seeing your reactions to the songs that were the soundtrack of my life. I'm 69 and have had music in the background of the days of my life. You go girl!
One of my fav tunes....used to hear this on the radio riding round with my mom in here little VW bug...and we would jam it lol....glad to hear you had same experience
He did so many wonderful character songs. Try Roller Derby Queen. I cried the day he died. He died basically penniless and had all those hits. His wife spent years in litigation to win a small fraction of what the record companies stole from him. He died on his last tour, he had promised Ingrid as soon as the tour was done he was quitting the business.
India you are so sweet showing us your response to these fantastic songs that are outside of your generation. I grew up with lots of these songs that your generation missed. You clearly give me hope that millennials aren't all lost if you can appreciated these quality talents outside of your generation. Keep your keen sense of quality and beautiful personality and you will always be loved by your audience.
Once I started listening to older music including Jim Croce I can't even listen to new modern music. You can't not jam and sing along to this song when it comes on. It's all Pandora and no more radio for me.
@aw I'm 64yrs old and understand your thinking but don't give up on modern music. Just like in the past there's good and not so good. The fun part is when you find the good! It's like a treasure hunt. They're still out there.
OMG India!!!! I LOVE YOU! I literally LOL watching you react to some of these "oldies." I really enjoy reliving these through you! Jim Croce was my first album when I turned 16 actually, but I do truly love your insight and reactions to a lot of artists. You make my day better! Thanks for your positivity, you're a joy, an absolute joy!!
Sounds to me you always give credit where it’s due... Grandpa has some great tunes he brought you up on. Keep on with your music journey, this old lady from the Mississippi Delta is loving following you along. You make me smile on a daily basis. Love to you and Grandpa 💜
I lived in the south side of Chicago when I went to college, I couldn't help but think of this song. I was a little girl when it was on radio play. My oldest brother is 20 years older than me. So I grew up hearing these classics.
