What a crying shame that we lost her [1952-2004] she was only 52 years old. Her great hit songs were "Self-Control," "Gloria," "Power of Love," and "How am I supposed To Live Without You." She will be truly missed. R.I. Peace Laura.

I had the privilege of seeing Laura Branigan perform live twice, once in 1988, and then again in 2002 at CBGBs of all places in what may have been her last live performance. She delivered way beyond expectations for both shows. A one of a kind talent gone way too soon. I'm so happy that you both recognize the raw power she had. Thank you for doing Laura's version of this song.Everyone does Celine and I have been suggesting over and over that Laura's version should be given a listen but all I get is disagreement over who's version is better.To me,all three are very good.It was written and recorded by Jennifer Rush,then Laura's version,then years later,Celine.To me,Celine's version is to polished.She probably has the best voice,but in my opinion,Laura's rasp and power adds more emotion to the song.This live version is shorter than the studio version.To get the full size power and emotion,you should listen to the studio version.Jennifer Rush's version is also less polished than Celine's and has more emotion,but again,Laura's version is my favorite.Part of that could be that her version is the one that I heard first and listen to for years before hearing any other version.

I love Laura (RIP) and her songs 'Gloria' and 'Self Control' and while this version of 'The Power of Love' is great, the Jennifer Rush original version is the best. Check link some one posted.

My Friend , Mike, who had Cystic Fibrosis, LOVED her. It was a dream of his to meet her. AND HE DID !!!!! . She was a wonderful woman! They are together again in heaven . 😢

Jennifer Rush is the original co-writer and singer - from 1985/1986 when this song was a million copy seller everywhere other than the US. Then Laura Brannigan in 1987, then Celine in 1994.

Don't forget that this was recorded years before Celine sang it...and Celine has a heck of a lot more tech. on her side to improve her sound. Laura's version is so pure. Sad such another fabulous talent had to leave us so soon.

She was One of My favorite Singers of all time. She was a beautiful and very kind and talented Woman. She was highly underrated and not appreciated enough in Her time and now. So thankful to see someone cover Laura’s version than Céline all the time. Of course Céline is pretty version but I think Laura’s is superior. She has that extra texture to her voice that is lacking in Céline’s. That rasp gets me every time when she shreds her voice. The studio version even has more of it!

I “missed” Jennifer in her prime-in fact, I only discovered her 2 months ago. I am a big fan of Celine and only discovered Jennifer because I came across Celine’s cover of POL including Jennifer. I couldn’t believe my ears. I’m 84 and have heard them all, from Ginger Rogers to Edith Piaf to Vera Lynn. Then Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, and Bonnie Tyler. Add Gloria Gaynor, Connie Francis, Laura Branigan, Linda Ronstadt, Rita Coolidge, Celine, Mariah, and Whitney and you have the lineup of the greats right up to Adele and Susan Boyle. But, Jennifer Rush has the all-around best female voice I have ever heard. Her operatic training adds an unmatched vibrato containing depth and texture. And she sings everything: opera, pop, rock, and ballads in English, Spanish, German, and Hungarian. Jennifer Rush does a nice job on this song but, I like Laura's version best because she really gets down and emotional with it. You'll have to listen to the original recording. It's way more dramatic than this live version. She toned it down here :) Another great song to check out by Laura is Solitaire.

Jennifer Rush wrote it and sung it originally. It was a number 1 hit in several countries for her (just not the US). Her version is awesome. I love Laura and Celine as well. My ranking of the three versions would be Laura then Jennifer (even though she wrote it!) then Celine (sorry!). Laura's voice is astonishing.

Great to hear the original version Laura had quite the hit on the radio with this song. Celine did it later as only Celine can do. Another tune like this is " When A Man Loves A Woman" the original from the 60's then later on done as a hit by Michael Bolton A singer named Luba did it in the 80"s with an incredible vocal performance.
