Every single time! I remember watching this when it aired and amidst taking out of my chair when she dropped that vibrato! I was gagged! So glad it's on youtube!
People need to get over it! What the hell does that even mean?? There is no "look" to a character, it just needs an actress who can embody the written character. Same reason they cast a black woman as Hermione is cursed child (rather than the Emma Watson "look"). And same as why there was a black Glinda and a black Regina George. Its the concept and attitude not a physical appearance that matters
Vocally, Autumn is so much stronger than Bailey... but in the end, Bailey has the look and feel of Elle. It's a shame, I feel like Autumn earned it with this performance, but all I can think of while watching it is "Glinda." Autumn is 100% Glinda. There's a role for everyone.
okay so heres my opinion. vocally, autumn is "oh-oh-oh-oh-oh much better" than bailey. but bailey is more giddy, cheerful, and she has the overall best representation of elle woods. i am not saying that bailey is the best elle woods though, she's nothing compared to LBB, Haven, Becky, etc. if bailey had the voice of autumn, she'd be perfect as elle.
Doesn't even make sense because she ended up playing Glinda.... That part is a heck of a lot harder then Elle "gitty" and "cheerful" wise... Ultimately Autumn should have won.. So sad.
I love how many risky choices she makes as Elle! So unique! True actress right there. A shame she didn't win. Would have brought something completely different to the role. She was understudy but did she ever go on?
You know....I watched this show when it was airing, and at the time I was very young and really pulling for Bailey. But looking back, Autumn really was better. So much better, no pun intended. It's a shame she didn't win. Somebody needs to write a musical for her. Her belt is insane.
I'm confused by the comments saying Autumn was "too old" for the part and that's why she didn't win. She's 28. That's more or less how old Laura Bell was at the time right? Bailey was too young if anything. She's supposed to be a law student. Most law students are not 20.
Nah, that was Becky Gulsvig, understudied by Lauren Ashley Zakrin and Rhiannon Hansen who were from the show. Autumn was supposedly the understudy on Broadway but did not perform when Bailey was out, for some infuriating reason. She did play the role in a regional production somewhere eventually.
@@NairAthul That's not true. The Leilani track is 1st cover; Margot second. That's why there are many times Becky Gulsvig performed for Laura Bell Bundy but Annaleigh Ashford and Haven Burton did very rarely.
I love how everyone's saying blonde's not a good look for her when she's currently playing Portia in Something Rotten... A blonde. (And heckin' ROCKING it, might I add.)
Oh my god, oh my god you guys. This girl's perfect! And it's no surprise. See they really don't know talent even when they use their eyes. Oh my god you guys!
I totally forgot Bailey got picked over Autumn....Autumn was AMAZING to be honest!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw Bailey on Broadway and I didn't really think she had it quite like Autumn did!
Marcus Graham I know this is 2 years old but I remember watching this in complete shock that she didn't win. Her voice was much better. She could have worked on her "performance" but bailey, although she's not a bad singer she isn't as good as autumn.
And it pains me to even be this critical, but I was so beyond stunned. I always say, you can sharpen an actors performance with the right direction and patience...they should've given her the slot.
Marcus Graham I'm understand why bailey won she fit the part much more than autumn. but I think autumn had such an amazing voice. She had a voice that could carry a production. Watching clips of bailey she got much better and was doing pretty well.
@@chloeveeder872 I really think it's the bad wig. She doesn't look old without it. Although her dancing is not as great as some of the other girls. Still think she should have gotten it though, it's way easier to teach someone a dance than it is to teach someone to sing in a few months.
I got to see her as Portia on the Something Rotten tour and she was absolutely incredible! I also met her afterwards and spoke with her. She's such a gem.
my favorites out of this top ten were Autumn and Lauren. Autumn is extremely amazing and Lauren's acting was awesome! Bailey did not have the voice or acting skills for Elle. She sounded exhausted when she performed "What You Want" and her voice isn't that great. I'm still questioning how she won...
Because apparently Bailey had the presence of "Elle" more than anyone else. Though her singing (and honestly her dancing too) wasn't as ideal, at least she looks like an Elle right?
I think if Bailey had Autumn's voice and Lauren's acting, then she would be perfect. I think Bailey's acting is too over-the-top and fake. She doesn't seem as sophisticated whereas Lauren is very specific in her acting choices. And Autumn's voice is just omg-amazing.
She KILLED it! If it wasn't for the blonde thing (the wig and earlier dying her hair didn't work) and a few years, she would have had the role. Hope she went on to star in something bigger and better.
Autumn would have actually been a great Vivienne. She carries the same smart sophisticated strength that Kate Shindle brought to the role. I like how they wrote the role in the musical over the Vivienne in the film.
Autumn was a better singer by far, but Bailey had the character in a landslide, and on Broadway that wins over anything. They both are amazing and deserve to be on Broadway. cant wait to see what else they will do!
If Autumn would have won, I would definitely have bought tickets to go. I went to see Laura Bell's last performance because I didn't want to see Bailey. Autumn is so talented.
Autumn should've won this hands down. I remember watching the MTV show and what people were truly not getting was that theatergoers don't go to Broadway to see the most perfect looking Elle, they go to see a great performance and an exceptional voice and that was Autumn. But no, everyone was hung up on the most perfect look on the TV show, and they cast Bailey and the Broadway show closed several months later, it didn't save it the way they hoped it would because they didn't cast a performer that was all that dynamic, she just had a good look. Would you honestly pay $200 to hear Bailey sing in person? No, you'd pay $10 to buy a movie ticket. And that's what the TV audience was really not understanding and the producers got too caught up in making the MTV show and forgot this was ultimately for the Broadway audience not the TV one. Reviews from theatergoers were less than flattering of Bailey after she debuted and the weak voice was a glaring issue.
Vocally Autumn may be better but Bailey has so much more stage presence and star quality than autumn. They helped bailey with her voice and breathing but they can't make someone have stage presence.
totally agree. I don't understand people saying stuff about Bailey like "By the end of that song she is sooo out of breath" or "Autumn is such a stronger singer" Like obviously, but those are things that can be fixed by practicing or training. Which there is plenty of on Broadway. Bailey can (and did) improve her singing voice later on during her Broadway run. Like you said before, stage presence is something that just comes naturally, it can't be taught. Sorry also btw. I know I'm replying 4 years later so this is totally not relevant anymore, just an opinion I had.
She should have won. Bailey couldn't act. And her voice is insufferable. I was rooting for Emma all the way, but Autumn should have gotten it in the end.
I feel like the director kind of wanted autumn to be Elle as he was smiling the whole time in the performance and shaking his head yes rather than Bailey’s performance. Just saying maybe?
Frankly, i thought autumn was honestly more elle than bailey. Autumn made elles seem very composed and leader like which I feel like is similar to how Reese Withspoon Portrayed her
