In Headspace, Hero is pretty much literally Mr. Perfect at all times outside of combat. Real-life Hero is still a pretty swell guy, but we see that he's flawed like any other human. I guess Sunny really looked up to him when he was younger.
The little details are kind of sad/bittersweet... (Omori getting frustrated at messing up and slamming random keys (mirroring Sunny's feelings abt violin), Hero playing a piece taught to him by Mari)
The Piano Piece played by HERO was a melody that MARI taught him, the only place it plays in the realworld is when KEL and HERO go to SUNNY's house for a sleepover on day 2 (i think) and you go to the piano room, the only reason the piece is nowhere to be found on the OST is because the theme is regarded not as a song, but as a sound effect! (that's my theory atleast...)
Kel: the 12 year old who is convinced that they can play every pop song using 4 chords and smacking the piano, when it is actually just non-stop viva la vida remix (if you are dutch you know exactly what i mean) Aubrey: the 14 year old who plays stuff using a synthesia / sheet music boss video. Hero: The 16 year old who had proper lessons for 10 years. Omori: the guy who had lessons but isn't really good at it anymore, but doesn't try to impress anyone and just likes to improvise. aka me.
I find it interesting that, out of everyone, Hero's is the only one that sounds like a genuine piano, whilst the others have that iconic sound of a keyboard, with the way it rings and such. I wonder if that's because of how Hero was seen as "perfect" by young Sunny, and given Mari's desire for perfection, they have kind of been joint together in his mind, so Hero can play the piano like how Mari would have?
I think Hero did play the piano like Mari did, he plays the same song in the real world during the night of Two Days Left if you decide to go in the piano room
Hearing how Omori plays the piano in whitespace makes me chuckle. He just went “I screwed up to much” and mashed the keyboard for a second before backing away
I finally found out what Kel was playing! Turns out he wasn't keyboard smashing the thing! He was playing a bit of Pluto's battle theme from when you first fight him
i think the best unintentional detail was hero's playing getting interrupted by the background music, before it really ends. it looks so much like a mistake, but i like to think it's sunny's mind rejecting hero's playing because mari taught him the piece
I love how everyone just kind of slaps the keyboard until it makes some vaguely musical noise, then hero plays this beautiful, intricate jazz song, because of course he does.
Man!! I loved all their performances!! I'm gonna be honest Kel's stood out more to me because it reminds me of a old RU-vid video I saw called "I feel fantastic" and the music sounds just like it-
Results for them Omori/sunny: he has the basics, but he gave up in the end, which is such a shame as he has a great musical talent (this contains spoilers, if you know what I mean) Aubrey (or aubergine if you prefer): she expressed her cheerful emotions in the music, that's all I can say Kel: is that Pluto's theme?! Damn, Kel you nailed his ost! Hero: just hold on a sec, lemme get a whole box of tissues and cry at the corner.
Headcanon: OMORI OST - 096 or 122 is actually a little tune Sunny would practice on the piano after Mari's death. This is why Omori plays it on the keyboard here.
Slightly disturbing fact: In the Black Space room with all the houses, when you enter the room with Mari's photo it plays a slowed version of Aubrey's performance

Smashing the keys when you make a mistake haha, oh boy I wonder who would do that On some bad practise days, there will always be a cacophony of smashing keys in the background, along with crying, and the sound of a chair getting flipped over, and the sound of the piano lid slammed shut
@random person well you’re right, but undertale trailer came out on the same year before the game released in 2015, and omori took pretty long process of developing the game, and omori trailer was earlier before undertale. And the fans was worried when the dev slowed the progress and makes their brand merch instead.. but after a long wait the game is finally released and i am glad, better than the yandere simulator game (lol)
has anyone tried to learn hero’s song/figure out the chords? it sounds like a tricky piece but i’d imagine it could pulled off with enough experience. i want to try to learn it by ear despite having stopped playing/studying piano, music theory, etc. for at least 3 years
A thing that i love is that the OMORI, Aubrey and the Kel's songs are kinda unorganized and funny, since that they don't know how to play a keyboard, but the Hero's song it's a fully organized melody since that he learned this from Mari. Such details in a game that makes sense to the lore and that are insteresting...
What the heck...? I had no idea each one of them played it differently! This is why I like the fandom - you folks find and share these nice little details some of us would have missed otherwise. You rock!
Also, looking at this scene after *(SPOILER WARNING)* finishing the game gives me a slightly bad feeling. All the cute and attractive elements now have a "sinister" subtext I can't ignore. _Brrrr!_ What a game this is! 👍
at first the Hero one is a bit goofy, you’re like wow haha he’s so good. then you play a few 10s of hours later and hear it again from him, and it’s just heart-breaking
You know, that reminds me... isn't there a minigame in Final Fantasy VII where Tifa owns a piano and Cloud can play it or something...? Reminds me of the beautiful music Hero just played, especially if he learned it from Mari like you guys are saying. :p
I always thought that Omori just messed up and gave up playing but seeing people say he probably smashed the keys instead put things into a different perspective 👀
its surprisingly realistic, the limited knowledge of piano is very apparent and the songs they play (and how they play) reflect their personalities really well
