You flew the Max beautifully. It's a great airframe. Enjoy it. If we ever meet up, I'll let ya fly my 700 😊

Awesome! Thanks ;) Clay helped me out with this heli, and he and I are going to try to connect to get the M7 in the air, but I'd love to fly with as many heli aficionado's that I can find! Heli's are a different skill set, but flying fixed wing - This I can do ;)

Some tips I can give new heli flyers, as I'm new, but can fly basic 3d now: - Don't set up normal like this.. A lower headspeed, sure.. but try and force yourself to fly with a full range of collective (max negative to positive), at a constant headspeed, straight away! - If you do.. remember that unlike a plane, chopping the 'throttle stick' on a heli when things get spicy, is a recipe for disaster. As Brian nearly found out @25:32 hehe As a plane flyer first, I needed to break this habit, and you'll need to! - Use stability mode sparingly, you need to get in the saddle eventually, so fly manual! It's a helicopter, it's hard, thats the point, but also the fun!

I crashed it, esc was using soft start, so I couldn't get power back fast enough...but wish I hadn't, since this heli was amazing! Waitng on parts now ;(

I feel you are overthinking the throttle and pitch curves. 1- set your throttle curves flat, on all electric helis. Only for normal mode,0 at the first step, then go straight to your desired throttle position and run that flat all the way across. 2- pith needs to be left alone (0-100%) on all modes except for normal. For normal go 25%, 37%, then 50 at 50 and so on. This way all your pitch will be the same above 50% stick position. Which is what you want. The only reason you mess with pitch on normal is for a smoother spool down, but really it’s not necessary. Get those pitch curves fixed! Make these adjustments and it’ll be way smoother flipping between modes and you won’t have the decent issue you had in this vid;)
@OregonMotorcycle
@OregonMotorcycle 6 месяцев назад
Tail waggle;) 1- the blades need positive pitch at neutral. I can almost bet your linkage rod is a lil long. That needs to be as short as possible. Then reset the center on the tail and make sure it has positive pitch to “naturally” counteract torque. Don’t worry if the servo arm is not exactly 90* from the linkage. Just make sure center stick has a lil positive pitch. 2- I can bet your rod ends are too tight. Either size the ball links, or put about 15 flights on it to break them in. 3- double check your servo setting. Make sure your pulse and bandwidth matches what your servo is. Do these steps and the tail will be perfect;)

On my OMP M1 I had to lower the gyro on the flight controller itself. I don’t know if it is the same with the spectrum EFC.

In hold mode, I run linear pitch curve so I can level swashplate and adjust pitch without disconnecting my motor leads. Just make sure you are in throttle hold and put the transmitter out of reach.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 7 месяцев назад
yeah, I eventually go there, but I'm still pretty timid on Heli's. I spent about 8 hours that night in front of the fully live heli, with throttle CUT on, then later I found the HOLD setting I was missing in the Flight Mode setup...but either way, the heli was safe for me to work with. I just get nervous, since it's REALLY hard to disconnect a battery on a heli, if all hell breaks loose.

I like to bump head speed a little in normal mode. Helps with slow wag. Fast wag use more gain.. Nice flying brother..

Don’t think it will be economical to interchange the m4 to the max. Think there are a few differences including a bigger motor, but the max is my absolute favourite heli in that size class. I’ve put nearly 150 flights on mine since they have been out
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 7 месяцев назад
It is sure is very nice! The lower head speed is less intimidating to me, but need way more practice to feel comfortable. I watch these pro-pilots, and makes me feel like I'm some sort of a special needs case..

Hi Brian, i am a heli guy wanting to get in the planes. My question is, will I be able to fly a plane from the get go? I am a pretty seasoned 3d heli pilot at this point just for context but have never flown a plane. I really want a super timber 1.7m😅
@FPVJoschi
@FPVJoschi 7 месяцев назад
hey brain, thank you for this entertaining video. I also built an m4 max by myself. About your tail swing: it's not the gyro values. but on a stiff rear. My tip: Check how smoothly the rear pitch sleeve can be moved. best regards Joschi
@10fantic
@10fantic 4 месяца назад
Remember there is two types of tail “wag”. A slow tail wag like this is gain too LOW. Fast tail wag where you can hear it oscillating fast back and forth on pitch pumps for example means gain is too HIGH. I often see people make the mistake or lowering gain on the tail with a slow wag like this had when it’s actually the opposite way you must go on gains. Make sure you setup the gains in relation to the flight modes and different rpm’s

If lowering the gane doesn't stop the tail wobble check the length of the rod it may be slightly short or slightly long. And you should also fly in idle up so you can just focus on your pitch and not have to worry about power, love to see you flying helicopters it does take a little bit of time to learn as you can see. And please be a little bit more careful about flying overhead any one of those linkages could come off at any given time

I barely move the sticks compared to the "Real" heli pilots like Clay at Buddy RC - he is epicly good! That being said, I still LOVE flying heli's and wish I could get these guys to make some SCALE helis...they're "bones" are so dang good! As for the Draco, when you do, here's a shortcut ;) It's gonna be EPIC, but we can't share any footage or talk about it for a few weeks more :(...... bprc.me/Draco

Megan and I were just talking about this. The hobby companies are missing the mark only targeting extreme 3D pilots. I know there are AMAZING SKILLS involved, and I have huge respect for those that can do it, and for those trying, as I know just how hard it really is...but then there's HUMANS...we don't want to spend 2 days and hundreds of dollars fixing a heli after a crash...I just want these... APACHE COBRA HUEY (that doesn't commit Hari-Kari 3 seconds into flight - more on that later) MD500 (have one - but want bigger) Chinook Blackhawk (have one - but want bigger) Mi-24 Airbus H145 etc...I could go on and on... Why they heck do they think we'll buy every plane, which we do, but not every heli?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! This concept is a place where the hobby industry has missed the mark sooooooooo bad. I really hope they listen. That being said, there are some MFG'ers out there making AMAZING Stick and Boom heli's, like the M4 M4 Max and M7, etc...and that's great for 3D pilots, but I want something that looks the part while I'm flying around like a huge pansi ;) Thanks for being here, and getting it ;)

I love to see you fly helis and to see that you love it so much! A friend like Clay can teach you for sure how to fly step by step without stability of safe mode. Frpm hovering over side to side, all orientations. It's a challeng but even an old man like me learnde it aged 61!! Then the real fun begins and you will get totally addicted! I wish you that you will find the time to get away from stability! There is no better feeling than drifting around with a heli through the air, having unlimited bank angles and full control over this thing! I love my M4 Max, my M4 and all the M1's and M2's of all possible versions and generations! For sure you are not a "chicken" if you fly the M4 Max the way you do in the video!!

Try adjusting the pid numbers under foward programming safe tail settings. There are 3 settings the proportional the differential and the integral each had a different effect
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 7 месяцев назад
Do you happen to know what each of the PID numbers mean? I'd love to her what you suggest. This is where I get put off on Heli's. As you're probably already away, I know a LOT about planes, but get easily lost on Heli's, and I want to get better, but where is all this crap explained? That's a large part of our mission here on RU-vid, helping people work through these details, but why isn't there a modest description in a manual somewhere? Thanks in advance!

I usually only use the video stabilization on my phone (Galaxy S21 Ultra) but unfortunately, my phone updated and changed my settings, so this video had 0 stabilization. :( I never use any sort of auto tracking... it just can't keep up with the planes and I fight it the whole flight. Tracking the planes is all on me.
