This is another great piece by David Holsinger. Goes from slow, to an "Agitated" and intense feeling to a bright and broad section and then closes with a very slow and delicate horn part along with the woodwinds. Hope you enjoy!
I played Trombone 1 during my senior year of high school. Our school band was being rebuilt and started having great musicians, and the piece reflected that! This was the first piece we played really well in and scored our only 1 during our last Concert Performance Assessment! Such a great song!
I played this as first chair flute in high school while I was in the GMAC Honor Band under the actual direction of David Holsinger,,,I remember him placing his coat on the back off my chair as he prepared to direct our performance that year. I am now 33 and still love to hear his music. This piece is awesome and I am proud to say that my siblings played pieces by him as well. I miss playing all day every day.
I have been searching for this for literally decades. I played it in the Walker High School band in Jasper, AL in 1995. We competed in Colorado Springs playing this and won. I knew that it was an arrangement of Were You There but I couldn't find it with idle googling. Sitting here eating lunch when I finally remembered the name. I'm crying. A beautiful arrangement and so many memories.
This song is by far the most difficult thing I've ever played, and I think that my band teacher is a bit insane having freshman do this one, but holy cow is this a cool song. While the flute has little melody, the dynamics and articulation are so well put together.
powerful. such beautiful and powerful composure. the story hits home cause I'm catholic. the music does a great job at pulling at the emotions and getting your attention
I played this in 2014 with the PMS Symphonic Band. I was on trombone 1, and when we played this at our concert. I was crying after I played the solo at 3:50. Best thing I've ever played.
I got to play the timpani part for this and the little solo I have was my favorite, but we got quarantined before we could preform it, it was my favorite song we were playing, I’m a senior so I won’t get to play it again and I’m really sad, I loved this song
I got the timpani part in this one. The only thing that's a pain in the butt is changing the pitches of the drum fast. Dx I love the solo I got in it though xD
