Spoof of the iconic 70’s film ‘On Any Sunday’. Mainly filmed at the Malle Mile.
Narrated by Ichiban Moto ‪@IchibanMoto‬
Winner of best short film at Portland Motorcycle Film Festival (US) and MotoTematica Motorcycle Film Festival (Rome). Award Winner at Bestlov Film Festival and 4Theatre. Selected and Screened at the TMFF (Toronto Motocycle Film Festival) and Moto Film Fest Abiti-Témiscamingue (Quebec, Canada)
'On Any Other Sunday', is very loosely based on the legendry Mert Lawwill sequences from the original film.
Our Synopsis:
Hot shot and motorcycle racer Dave Schofield (Mert) is last year’s racing champion. To hold on to the championship he has entered the Sprint, Hill Climb and 500 events at the Malle Mile inappropriate motorcycle festival.
Dave is totally committed to his racing ambition. He spends at least ten minutes in his workshop preparing his highly tuned Honda Cub and Suzuki GS400 for racing. Dave and his dad, spend hours on the road, driving across the country to find the event. Within the busy weekends racing schedule, Dave always finds time to spend cherished moments with his eight fans, signing autographs and posing for selfies of himself.
As the racing action unfolds, sadly - due to alcohol poisoning and a recurring fungal infection - Dave's not on form and cannot get the points needed to retain his championship title - this leaves four other contenders in a shoot-out for glory.
The film also features riders; Jon Gaymer, Danners, Arri Cooper, Obed Cooper and Carl Simpson. Other mentioned are: Clive Hillman, Jon Betts, Moto Mandi, David Irons, Pete Stanfield, Mike Federer, Trevor Schofield, Saffron Davies Deen, Ben Eddings, Alex Elbrow and Jamie Skinner.
Thanks to Robert, Jonny and the Malle Crew (‪@MalleLondon‬ ), all the inappropriate racers at the Malle Mile Event and Professor Christopher Staecker.
Special thank you to Tim Schofield aka Dave’s dad. And to Dave for letting us take the mickey out of him.

As a huge fan of the original movie, I must say this is brilliant. The dead-pan delivery, and subtle edits to the script and scenes are all spot on. Love the groovy music too. Thanks for all the effort and attention to detail. A very entertaining hommage. Mert, Malcolm and Steve, just to name a few, would surely agree.

When I was in my early 20's a distant friend sadly told me that as he got 1 , 2 and 3 years older his motorcycle racing sponsor declined his next upcoming year of sponsored racing . This was because of his body weight . The new replacement rider that was hired , was only 140 Lbs , while this mans weight was now up to 220 Lbs . By the time the racing season started he would be up to about 230 Lbs . As folks talk about so smartly cutting , grinding , machining etc 3 to 5 Lbs off their bikes . They must also think very fast of their own body weight ! Not only their bike . Think of the difference between 230 and 140 , that's 90 Lbs . That's incredible !

During the summer of 1971, I went to see On Any Sunday with two of my high school buds. The beautiful theme song left me with some watery eyes. I wanted to know who the vocalist was, but had no way to find out. Fiftyone years later, while reading the December 2022 issue of 'American Motorcyclist' magazine, I learned that the lyrics were written and sung by Sally Stevens. As a professional, yet not famous session vocalist, her name does not appear in the movie credits. During her career she has done back up vocals for Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, Wayne Newton & others. She also sang on many TV shows including; The Simpsons, The Smothers Bros, Carol Burnett show, Love Boat, Happy Days - and movies; Jaws, Indiana Jones, Planet of the Apes, so all of us reading this have most likely, unknowingly heard her voice in other venues. It is quite interesting is that she had never ridden a motorcycle alone, only as a passenger. When this project came up, she asked her brother, who owned a bike, to again take her riding so she could "feel the experience, understand the details, and have the thoughts" to put the words on paper. At the time I checked, 12/2022, she is still alive & well, living in LA, aged 83. If you want to know more about Sally, there is a great article on damfinoroads / sally-stevens, and the IMDb website has some info.

In the early 70's me and my friends had small enduro and scrambler bikes and used to race around fields sorta like in this video. When "On Any Sunday" came to our little town in Oklahoma some of us went to see it and really enjoyed it. We spent most of our teenage years riding motorcycles, reading motorcycle magazines, and talking about motorcycles. Well, ....and girls.... we talked a lot about girls.
